You will counsel high‑net‑worth individuals, founders, fund principals and families on sophisticated estate, gift and income tax planning, family office arrangements, private trust companies, and philanthropic structures.

Day‑to‑day work includes drafting complex estate planning documents (Wills, trusts, GRATs, SLATs, ILITs and related instruments), advising on trust modification/migration strategies and trust/estate administration, and preparing complex estate and gift tax filings. Hybrid schedule with an expectation of three in‑office days per week in Chicago.

  • Proven experience drafting sophisticated estate planning documents and implementing advanced tax‑efficient wealth transfer strategies (e.g., GRATs, SLATs, ILITs, dynasty planning).
  • Experience with trust modification/migration techniques (decanting, mergers, nonjudicial settlement agreements) and preparing complex estate tax filings (Forms 706/709, Section 6161/6166 issues, GST allocation strategies).
  • Comfort with multi‑jurisdictional and cross‑border tax issues and conducting advanced legal research.
  • Admission to the Illinois bar, or admission in another U.S. state with eligibility to obtain Illinois admission within two years.
