Government Sector Legal Consultant – Contract Opportunities

We are seeking experienced legal professionals with a background in government or public sector work to support our clients in Melbourne. This role is ideal for those with expertise in administrative law, commercial agreements, and dispute resolution within a governmental context.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support on matters involving government departments, statutory authorities, and public sector organisations.
  • Advise on government procurement strategies, tender processes, evaluation frameworks, and contract management.
  • Draft and review a broad range of commercial agreements, including goods, services, consultancy, technology, and infrastructure contracts.
  • Support complex procurement and commercial projects from planning through to implementation.
  • Manage litigation and dispute resolution, including coordinating external legal providers and developing strategy.
  • Advise on contractual disputes, statutory claims, administrative law matters, and broader government-related litigation.
  • Prepare legal briefs, ministerial responses, and governance documentation for senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with operational teams, executives, and external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Supervise and mentor junior legal team members where applicable.
  • Manage competing priorities and deliver timely, commercially focused legal support.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Current Australian practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated experience providing legal advice within a government or public sector environment.
  • Strong knowledge of administrative law, procurement, and commercial contracting.
  • Excellent communication, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to manage high-volume workloads and build trusted relationships.
  • High standards of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Current Australian practising certificate.
  • Right to live and work in Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in government or public sector legal matters.
  • Experience with procurement strategies, tender processes, and contract management.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills for commercial agreements.
  • Ability to manage litigation and dispute resolution processes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
  • Proven capability to mentor junior team members.
