Growing life‑sciences patent prosecution team seeks an experienced patent attorney to join offices in Silicon Valley, Boston, New York or Washington, D.C. The role focuses on prosecution and counseling for biotechnology, medical devices and related technologies within a busy life‑sciences practice.

Typical responsibilities include managing patent portfolios and client relationships, conducting prior‑art searches and freedom‑to‑operate analyses, drafting patent applications and office‑action responses, supporting litigation and post‑grant proceedings, and participating in IP due diligence for financings and transactions. The position requires strong technical writing and oral communication, the ability to mentor junior staff, and comfortable collaboration across teams.

This is a full‑time, hybrid role with a minimum in‑office requirement of three days per week. Candidates must be registered with the USPTO.

  • At least 3 years of law‑firm patent prosecution experience (candidates with slightly less experience may be considered)
  • Ph.D. in Cellular & Molecular Biology, Immunology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or closely related field; or M.S. with substantial research experience
  • Active registration with the USPTO as a patent practitioner
  • Broad scientific knowledge in biotechnology and familiarity with medtech/AI applied to life sciences is a plus
  • Proven ability to draft patent applications and persuasive office‑action responses; strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Ability to conduct prior‑art searches, FTO analyses, and support IP due diligence; team player who can mentor junior staff
