About You

You are an experienced privacy lawyer with a minimum of 8 years' experience, bringing a strong track record from private practice or in-house roles within large organisations. Experience in telecommunications will be highly regarded (but is not essential if you have experience working in a highly regulated environment).

Preferred Experience and Expertise

  • Demonstrated experience advising on privacy law and regulatory compliance within the telecommunications, technology, financial services or other highly regulated sectors
  • Strong knowledge of the Privacy Act, Australian Privacy Principles and emerging privacy regulatory developments
  • Experience providing legal advice on telecommunications-specific privacy obligations, including protected information requirements under Part 13 of the Telecommunications Act
  • Experience advising on obligations arising under the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act, including interception, data retention and law enforcement access requirements
  • Proven ability to support organisations through regulatory reform and compliance uplift programs, including implementation of new legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Strong capability in identifying, assessing and managing legal, regulatory and reputational risks associated with privacy and telecommunications regulation
  • Experience advising on governance, compliance and regulatory matters within a large corporate or in-house legal environment
  • Experience supporting regulatory projects involving privacy reform, cyber security, data governance, consumer protection or telecommunications compliance
  • Familiarity with scam prevention frameworks, customer protection obligations and broader telecommunications regulatory requirements would be highly regarded
  • Experience advising on sensitive customer matters, including hardship, vulnerability, domestic violence or customer protection issues would be advantageous
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with legal, risk, privacy, compliance, regulatory and operational teams
  • Ability to operate as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact for privacy-related legal issues
