Senior Associate role within a market-leading foreign investment and national security regulatory team based in Sydney. You will lead FIRB/FDI approval workstreams on complex cross-border transactions, working closely with government agencies, deal teams and external advisers to shape regulatory strategy and clearance outcomes.

The role combines technical drafting and negotiation of applications, responses and mitigation frameworks with practical commercial advice on transaction structure and timing. You will be the key non-partner lead on matters, managing client and agency engagement, supervising junior lawyers and contributing to policy-facing, precedent-setting work at the intersection of geopolitics, technology and investment regulation.

This position offers significant government exposure, responsibility on high‑profile regulatory matters and the opportunity to build a recognised profile in a rapidly evolving area of practice.

  • Approximately 6 years post-qualification experience in regulatory, foreign investment or related transactional work.
  • Experience managing FIRB/FDI approval processes or regulatory workstreams and engaging with government agencies; direct regulator exposure desirable.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills for applications, submissions and conditions; ability to translate regulatory risk into commercial outcomes.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple matters, lead and mentor junior lawyers, and maintain high-quality client relationships.
