Senior Associate, General Counsel & Risk (Insurance)

A leading international law firm is seeking a Senior Associate or Counsel to join its General Counsel & Risk team in Australia. The role sits across the firm’s Australian offices and will manage a portfolio of professional liability and risk matters, liaise with insurers, instruct external counsel and contribute to firm-wide risk and insurance strategy.

The role reports to senior in-house counsel and will lead defence of professional liability claims, manage insurance renewals and provider relationships, handle investigations and regulatory issues, and present risk matters to senior management. The team emphasises proactive risk management, cross-office collaboration and professional development.

• Previous senior lawyer experience within an insurance or litigation practice, ideally handling professional liability
• Experience managing claims, mediations and settlement negotiations
• Proven ability to instruct and manage external counsel and insurers
• Strong analytical, drafting and communication skills, and the ability to explain complex commercial issues to non-lawyers
• Excellent time management and the ability to run multiple matters concurrently
