Short-term (6–8 month) full-time hybrid contract based in Melbourne, supporting a large public-sector legal function. The role provides senior legal leadership and hands-on oversight of complex public sector matters while the organisation manages an operational transition.

You will lead and develop a legal team, provide strategic legal advice to senior executives, and manage high-priority public law, FOI, privacy and regulatory risks across the organisation.

Minimum 8 years' PQE with substantial in-house government or public sector experience (government experience essential)
Proven experience leading and mentoring legal teams and acting in a Head of Legal / senior leadership capacity
Expertise in public sector law: FOI, privacy/data protection, governance, administrative law and government reporting obligations
Strong stakeholder management, negotiation and political acumen; ability to advise senior executives and navigate complex public-sector environments
Current Australian practising certificate and right to work in Australia
