Apply in confidence →Join a well‑regarded national law firm’s Casualty Police Claims team as a Solicitor or Legal Executive. You will manage a mixed caseload of pre‑litigation and litigated civil claims brought against police forces — including false imprisonment, trespass, malicious prosecution, Human Rights Act and employer’s liability matters — and provide assistance to other fee‑earners across regional offices.
The role involves day‑to‑day client liaison with police force clients, claims handlers and insurers; instructing experts and counsel; attending hearings and conducting advocacy where appropriate; preparing case documentation and complying with court procedure; and contributing to team training, mentoring and business development activities. The position is available in Leeds with opportunities to work across other regional offices.
Appointment is subject to standard employment screening and mandatory police vetting (including residency criteria). The firm seeks candidates who will uphold professional standards, meet chargeable time and client care expectations, and keep up to date with legal developments.
- Qualified solicitor or legal executive, minimum 3 years PQE
- Experience defending civil claims preferred; claimant experience will be considered
- Advocacy experience or ability to undertake advocacy as required
- Knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules and litigation practice
- Police law experience desirable but not essential
- Strong organisation, time‑management and communication skills; good IT proficiency
- Ability to work to strict deadlines, as part of a team or on own initiative; willingness to travel
- Successful candidate must satisfy police vetting and residency criteria
