An established national law firm is seeking a trusts associate to join its Pensions team in Leeds (with presence in Sheffield). The role focuses on insurer‑led death‑in‑service discretionary trust work, providing specialist trustee advisory support for life assurance master trusts and related discretionary decision‑making.

Day‑to‑day work includes advising on discretionary death benefit claims, assessing competing beneficiary representations, documenting and supporting trustees’ decision processes, and providing clear, pragmatic advice in sensitive, high‑judgement matters. The team works closely with broader pensions and business services specialists.

Qualified trusts lawyer or Legal Executive with experience in trusts and estates work.
Background in contentious or quasi‑contentious trusts, private client disputes, or trustee advisory work; contentious probate experience welcomed.
Comfortable exercising and advising on discretionary decision‑making where beneficiaries’ interests compete.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce clear, defensible recommendations; commercial and pragmatic approach.
Able to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
