Apply in confidence →Join a casualty police claims team handling defended civil actions on behalf of police forces and associated public-sector insurers. The role is available across multiple UK offices and involves running a mixed caseload of pre‑litigated and litigated matters.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities include managing liability claims such as false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, trespass and Human Rights Act matters, conducting advocacy at hearings when required, liaising with insurers, experts and counsel, and supervising more junior fee earners. You will also contribute to client development, training and case management processes.
The appointment requires adherence to professional standards, achievement of chargeable/financial targets and ongoing legal development. Successful candidates must be able to travel between offices as needed and will be required to pass police vetting prior to starting.
- Qualified solicitor or legal executive with 3+ years PQE
- Experience defending civil claims preferred; claimant experience may be considered
- Advocacy capability and working knowledge of CPR and civil litigation procedure
- Knowledge of police law desirable but not essential
- Strong organisation, time‑management and communication skills; competent IT skills
- Ability to meet deadlines, work independently and as part of a team; willingness to travel between offices
- Successful completion of police vetting required
