Apply in confidence →Established national practice is hiring a Counsel-level attorney to join its Employee Benefits & Tax team focusing on health and welfare plans. The role involves counseling employers and plan sponsors on regulatory compliance and transactional matters affecting employee health and welfare programs.
Typical work includes advising on ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, the Affordable Care Act and related federal/state laws; drafting and negotiating vendor and third‑party administrator agreements; and counseling on HIPAA privacy and compliance issues. The team supports a mix of national and regional clients and offers professional development and advancement opportunities.
The position is open to candidates based in one of the firm’s US offices (including Atlanta, Washington DC, New York, Raleigh, or Winston‑Salem) or to hybrid/remote candidates provided they are admitted in the state corresponding to the office they will be aligned with.
- Minimum of 8 years of employee benefits experience, preferably from a mid‑to‑large law firm or comparable practice.
- Substantive experience with ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA (including privacy), and the Affordable Care Act.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating TPA and other vendor agreements for health and welfare plans.
- Strong counseling and drafting skills; ability to manage client relationships and deliver practical compliance guidance.
- Bar admission in the relevant state for the chosen office; LL.M. in Employee Benefits is a plus.
