Established international trade group seeks a counsel (or senior associate-level) attorney to join the Washington, D.C. office. The role focuses on U.S. export controls, economic sanctions, customs/imports, and related national security and government enforcement matters.

The team advises corporate clients across industry sectors on compliance programs, licensing and classification issues, CFIUS and foreign investment matters, cross-border transactions, and internal investigations. The role combines substantive regulatory counseling, transactional support, and government-facing filings and representations.

This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge export control and emerging-technology issues (advanced computing, semiconductors, AI, etc.), and to partner with a global team on complex cross-border matters.

  • Minimum 6 years' experience in international trade, export controls, sanctions, and/or customs at a law firm, in-house, or government agency
  • Experience with EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions, commodity jurisdiction and classification analyses, and preparing license applications/filings
  • Familiarity with CFIUS/national security reviews and import-related CBP matters preferred
  • JD required; admission to the DC bar or eligibility required
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, project-management, and client-facing skills
  • Prior U.S. government experience (BIS, DDTC, OFAC, CBP, etc.) and experience with emerging-technology controls are strong pluses
