Our client, a leading law firm, seeks a mid-level associate with at least 4 years of experience to join its real estate finance practice in Charlotte. The role focuses on representing institutional lenders, investment banks, and CMBS platforms in the origination of commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) and collateralized loan obligations (CLO) across various commercial property types, including office, retail, multifamily, hospitality, and industrial assets.

Responsibilities include drafting and negotiating loan documents (loan agreements, promissory notes, mortgages/deeds of trust, guarantees, ancillary documents), conducting and overseeing due diligence (zoning reports, leases, organizational documents, third-party reports), structuring transactions to comply with CMBS securitization requirements, coordinating with originators, underwriters, and securitization counsel, advising clients on structural issues affecting securitization eligibility, managing closings, and supporting post-closing matters.

The ideal candidate will have strong drafting and negotiation skills, excellent academic credentials, and a keen attention to detail. Experience with commercial real estate finance, securitization, or related transactional work is required.   • Minimum of 4 years of experience in commercial real estate finance, with significant experience representing lenders, investors, or CMBS platforms.
  • Experience with drafting and negotiating loan documents and managing due diligence processes.
  • Strong knowledge of CMBS and/or CLO securitization requirements, including rating agency criteria.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Strong writing, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Active North Carolina Bar license (or ability to waive into North Carolina).
