A national criminal defence team within a commercial insurance practice is seeking a Senior Associate or Associate to join its Bristol office. The sub-team handles a broad range of criminal investigations, prosecutions and inquests, including health & safety (HSE), regulatory matters, serious motor prosecutions and complex care-home/CQC-related work.

The role offers exposure to high‑profile and technically demanding matters across multiple sectors, with responsibility for managing significant files, advising insurers and insureds, and contributing to team outcomes.

There is an expectation to support business development activity, share legal updates and training, and to mentor more junior fee‑earners while maintaining high professional and commercial standards.

Minimum 3 years' PQE with a background in criminal defence and regulatory work, including defending HSE prosecutions
Strong academic record and demonstrable technical expertise in criminal/regulatory defence
Ability to manage complex caseloads, prioritise effectively and meet financial targets
Excellent communication and organisational skills, with willingness to support business development and train colleagues
