Join a national law firm’s litigation costs team as a Costs Lawyer / Draftsman. The role involves preparing bills of costs for detailed and provisional assessment, managing costs litigation through the court process and providing technical support to fee-earning teams. Occasional court advocacy may be required, subject to agreement with the costs lead.

This is a client-facing role that requires taking instructions, advising clients on costs matters and contributing to training of more junior colleagues. The firm supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements where appropriate and offers employee wellbeing and professional development initiatives.

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in costs drafting or working in a costs team (in-house or external supplier)
  • Basic knowledge of civil litigation procedures and costs processes
  • Proven IT literacy, including time-recording systems
  • Strong communication skills and professional telephone manner; ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible approach to changing priorities
  • Desirable: ACL qualification or ILEX Part 1 (or similar); experience across legal departments
