Apply in confidence →National law firm seeks an Education Senior Counsel to advise schools and education-service providers across the United States. This is a non-partnership, senior in-house/practice role available at multiple offices and via the firm's virtual office.
The role focuses on counseling private, public, and religious educational institutions—with emphasis on K–12—on regulatory compliance, operational issues, and employment-related matters. The successful candidate will handle state and federal government-filed complaints and provide state-specific licensing, accreditation, and operational compliance guidance for schools opening in different jurisdictions.
Competitive compensation is offered; a posted salary range for certain states is $250,000–$325,000 (commensurate with experience). The position requires an active state bar license for the office applied to or a commitment to obtain one promptly.
- Minimum of 8 years' relevant experience preferred (education-focused regulatory and employment counseling).
- Proven experience advising K–12 and other educational institutions and education service providers on regulatory, operational, and employment matters.
- Experience handling state and federal government-filed complaints and familiarity with FERPA, Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, VAWA, EPA, ADA, Section 504, IDEA, and ADEA.
- Experience with state-specific licensing, accreditation, and compliance requirements for schools opening across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong judgment, excellent written and oral communication, ability to manage multiple matters under pressure, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Active bar license in the state of the chosen office or commitment to obtain one promptly.
