Apply in confidence →Top-tier national firm is hiring an Alternative Track Associate in its U.S. offices (openings in multiple locations). The role focuses on drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications for technologies spanning software-implemented inventions, electrical and mechanical designs, and consumer and emerging products.
The associate will work directly with inventors, engineering and product teams, and in-house counsel to develop strategic patent portfolios, participate in invention-harvesting and portfolio reviews, and provide guidance on patentability and portfolio strategy. There may also be exposure to PTAB and ex parte reexamination matters and responsibility for supervising more junior team members.
- 3–4 years of patent-prosecution experience in a law firm environment
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related technical field
- Strong experience with software-based technologies and ability to translate technical concepts into patent claims
- USPTO registration preferred; candidates without registration must prepare for and pass the patent bar prior to joining or within the first 12 months
