Apply in confidence →Seeking a junior to mid-level Patent Associate or Patent Agent to join a Boston-based medical device practice within a large international law firm. The role focuses on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution and counseling for medical technologies, working with clients ranging from startups to established companies.
Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing complex prosecution dockets, performing patentability and infringement analyses, conducting freedom-to-operate and landscape studies, and supporting IP diligence for financings and M&A. The position will collaborate with attorneys across the firm’s broader platform.
- 1–4 years of patent prosecution experience (U.S. and foreign jurisdictions).
- Admission to the U.S. patent bar (registered patent agent or patent attorney).
- Strong technical background in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, electrical/computer engineering, or equivalent.
- Prior law firm experience; experience drafting and prosecuting medical device and diagnostics patent applications.
- Experience conducting FTO, landscape analyses and IP due diligence.
- Excellent academic record and strong written and oral communication skills.
- Residence in Boston required; associate candidates should be admitted to or eligible for admission to the Massachusetts bar.
