A major international law firm is seeking an IP Patent Prosecution Associate with a strong organic/medicinal chemistry background to join its life‑sciences patent practice. The role focuses on drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications and providing strategic portfolio counseling for clients across the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors.

Responsibilities include preparing and prosecuting patent applications, conducting patentability/validity and freedom‑to‑operate analyses, supporting IP due diligence and portfolio management, and collaborating with litigation and licensing teams when technical expertise is needed. This position is office‑based (not remote or hybrid).

  • Ph.D. in organic, synthetic, or medicinal chemistry required; exceptional M.S. candidates with substantial industry research experience may be considered.
  • Active registration to practice before the USPTO in good standing.
  • Admission to a U.S. state bar in good standing.
  • At least one year of prior patent prosecution experience in chemistry/pharmaceuticals preferred.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills; ability to translate complex science into clear legal drafting.
