As a Privacy Lawyer, you will act as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact for privacy-related legal issues, advising on regulatory compliance and supporting transformative projects. You will collaborate closely with legal, risk, compliance, and operational teams to manage complex legal and reputational risks.

  • Minimum 8 years' post-qualification experience as a privacy lawyer, ideally from private practice or in-house roles within large organisations
  • Strong knowledge of the Privacy Act, Australian Privacy Principles, and emerging privacy regulatory developments
  • Demonstrated experience advising on privacy law and regulatory compliance within telecommunications, technology, financial services, or other highly regulated sectors
  • Experience advising on telecommunications-specific privacy obligations, including protected information requirements under Part 13 of the Telecommunications Act
  • Experience advising on obligations under the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act, including interception, data retention, and law enforcement access requirements
  • Proven ability to support organisations through regulatory reform and compliance uplift programs, including implementation of new legislative requirements
  • Strong capability in identifying, assessing, and managing legal, regulatory, and reputational risks
  • Familiarity with scam prevention frameworks, customer protection obligations, and broader telecommunications regulatory requirements
  • Experience advising on sensitive customer matters, including hardship, vulnerability, domestic violence, or customer protection issues
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively across legal, risk, compliance, regulatory, and operational teams
  • Ability to operate as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact for privacy-related legal issues
  • Highly analytical with the ability to interpret complex legislative and regulatory frameworks
  • Capable of working autonomously and exercising sound judgement on complex legal and regulatory matters
  • Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to perform effectively in an evolving and uncertain regulatory environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory concepts clearly and practically
  • Effective prioritisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing matters
  • Calm under pressure, providing clear guidance in complex or sensitive situations
  • Committed to continuous learning and staying abreast of evolving privacy, telecommunications, and regulatory developments
  • Current Australian practising certificate
  • Right to live and work in Australia
  • Hold or be prepared to obtain security clearance
