Legal Counsel – Risk, Compliance & Insurance

This full-time, hybrid-friendly role sits within the firm’s internal legal, risk, and governance function, supporting the Chief Legal Officer in managing professional obligations, legal claims, and risk across the business.

This role is ideal for a lawyer with 1–3 years PAE looking to build a career in legal risk and compliance, working closely with partners and business services teams to embed risk-aware practices firm-wide.

What you’ll do:

• Manage complaints and claims against the firm, including professional indemnity (PI) notifications, costs disputes, and incident reporting.
• Maintain PI claims registers, report to the Risk Committee, and liaise with insurers and brokers on potential claims and circumstances.
• Review client Legal Service Agreements and supplier contracts from risk, regulatory compliance, and insurance perspectives.
• Develop systems (including AI-assisted) to review and analyse contracts, identifying and managing risk.
• Serve as the key contact for legal claims, risk training, professional indemnity insurance, costs, conflicts, and CPD compliance.
• Support the Chief Legal Officer with discrete governance and risk management responsibilities.

About you:

• Tertiary qualification in law and current Practising Certificate (or ability to obtain).
• 1–3 years’ PAE as a qualified Australian lawyer.
• Experience in contract review and risk analysis.
• Strong critical reasoning, investigative, and lateral thinking skills.
• Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and negotiation skills.
• Highly organised with strong verbal and written communication.
• Comfortable facilitating presentations and meetings.
• Ability to challenge the status quo and offer practical solutions.
