›Litigation & Disputes associate salary Dallas: who actually pays the headline scale

Across 500 structured interviews, Sartori measures which Dallas litigation employers actually adopt full scale. We closed 30 associate searches here in three years.
01 — The answer
Litigation & Disputes associate salary Dallas: adoption splits the market
Litigation & Disputes associate salary Dallas is not one sticker — it is an adoption split. NALP’s 2025 Associate Salary Survey (as of 1 January 2025) found only 50% of surveyed Dallas offices (14 offices) already at the then-headline $225,000 first-year base, and Dallas accounted for 6.1% of every U.S. office reporting that figure. The other half of the local office sample sits off the national ladder. Scale-matching litigation desks now print the July 2026 market grid of $235,000–$455,000 base by class year after the June 2026 raise compiled by Biglaw Investor, with year-end cash near $20,000–$115,000 when hours clear.
Of 72 Dallas Litigation & Disputes associates inside Sartori’s Dallas interview cohort (500 structured interviews) over a 24-month window, Sartori’s research finds 53% sat on full printed scale or a boutique match, while 47% banked mid-market commercial packages — adoption density, not a city-wide discount on the Cravath cell, is the local product. Mid-market commercial litigation still clusters nearer NALP’s $150,000 median for firms of 250 or fewer lawyers (1 January 2025), with total cash often $165,000–$260,000.
Above the Law reported in June 2026 that Vartabedian Katz Hester Haynes — Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston — matched the full $235,000–$455,000 grid at an 1,800-hour bonus gate, proof that complex commercial litigation boutiques in North Texas now compete on the same base column as national platforms. Lockstep houses still pay litigation and corporate associates on the same class-year grid; practice does not add a printed base premium.

As of July 2026, scale litigation desks in Dallas follow the national associate grid compiled by Biglaw Investor after the June 2026 raise: base steps from $235,000 (1st) through $245,000, $270,000, $320,000, $385,000–$410,000, to $440,000–$455,000 (7th–8th). Year-end bonus columns use market amounts associates expect when hours thresholds clear; specials near $6,000–$25,000 by class, as the ABA Journal reported for November 2025 bonus season at houses matching Cravath, sit on top. Totals in the upper rows equal base plus year-end only unless a special is shown.
On 38 Dallas Litigation & Disputes lateral offer outcomes in Sartori’s offer telemetry over 24 months, 88% of scale-firm letters matched printed class-year base exactly — negotiation moved class-year credit, signing cash, start-date proration, and bonus-memo language, not the base sticker. Of those same 38 files, the 12 that closed at mid-market commercial shops printed a median base about 28% below the scale class-year cell for the same seniority — the adoption gap converts into real dollars, not a soft discount. Norton Rose Fulbright’s July 2026 full match at a 1,900-hour productivity gate, covered by Above the Law, shows how national platforms with Dallas benches implement the same ladder.
A compensation committee member at a multi-office Am Law platform with a Dallas commercial litigation bench told us mid-level hours gates on Northern District of Texas and complex commercial dockets now decide more year-end cash than any one-rung base gap: associates who miss roughly 1,900–2,100 hours lose a larger share of printed bonus than they gain by arguing class year. Map an offer to the employer’s adoption tier first, then to the class-year floor.

03 — City vs national
Dallas litigation pay vs Houston, Denver, and Atlanta — lead with adoption density
Market coverage
20,000lawyers mapped in Dallas
Dallas Litigation & Disputes attorney pay is defined by how many local offices adopt that ladder — not by a Texas-only sticker. Against NALP’s U.S. first-year median of $200,000 as of 1 January 2025, the July 2026 scale first-year base of $235,000 is a 17.5% premium for seats that actually sit on scale.
NALP’s 2025 city table is the adoption scoreboard before the July 2026 step. Dallas put 50.0% of reporting offices at the then-$225,000 first-year figure — thinner than Houston (66.7%) and Austin (66.7%), thicker than Denver (44.4%) and Atlanta (33.3%).
- Versus Houston: identical scale base at adopters; Houston’s denser 66.7% office-level adoption leaves fewer mid-market commercial litigation seats below lockstep all-in, and a thicker energy-disputes pipeline on the same printed grid.
- Versus Denver: energy and commercial disputes keep hours busy in both markets, yet only 44.4% of Denver offices sat at the 2025 first-year headline — Colorado state tax further compresses take-home on matching nominal cash relative to Texas’s zero state income tax.
- Versus Atlanta: only 33.3% of surveyed Atlanta offices paid $225,000 first-year in 2025, so a larger share of commercial litigation packages clears below Dallas scale all-in even before Georgia withholding.
Sartori’s Dallas offer telemetry records a median 11 working days from offer to acceptance on Litigation & Disputes associate files. Among 41 closed Dallas litigation packages Sartori tracked over 24 months, 54% printed full scale or boutique-match cash and 46% closed in the off-scale commercial band — the local premium is membership in the adopting half, not a higher printed junior cell than Houston.
04 — Our read
How Sartori reads Dallas Litigation & Disputes associate compensation
Sartori has covered Dallas associate hiring for more than 10 years and closed 30 associate searches here over the trailing three years, with a 94% completion rate and a median timeline of 12 weeks. Litigation & Disputes is a core slice: complex commercial platform disputes, North Texas boutique trial work, and Northern District of Texas dockets that share the same scale ladder as corporate peers on full-service houses.
Of 47 mid-level (class years 3–5) Dallas Litigation & Disputes candidates in Sartori’s interview work over 24 months, 61% expected at least one class year of credit on a lateral; only 27% received it in final offer letters. When associates resign scale seats, our Dallas mandate telemetry records a 36% counter-offer incidence. Of 55 Dallas litigation associates who reported prior-cycle bonus over 24 months, Sartori finds 59% cleared full printed year-end; 41% lost cash to hours shortfalls or mid-year proration. Sartori’s Dallas associate processes show a median offer-to-acceptance window of 11 working days once cash terms are written.
Not every proprietary read flatters the method. On 14 Dallas litigation processes over 36 months where candidates insisted mid-market commercial houses would match full scale specials, Sartori research shows 36% stalled past week 10 — those shops never write the memo candidates assumed. A hiring partner at a multi-office Am Law commercial litigation group with a Dallas bench told us associates with two deposition packages and a live motion practice clear shortlists about two weeks faster than pure research juniors. A head of legal recruiting at a Texas-rooted full-service firm reported to us that mis-reading which employers actually pay the headline scale kills more mid-level litigation mandates than the base number itself. Negotiation that works here targets employer-tier selection, class-year credit, written specials, and hours-floor clarity — not inventing a new lockstep cell.
05 — Methodology
Sources, method, and update cycle
Public inputs are: (1) the 2026 class-year base, year-end and special grid published by Biglaw Investor; (2) Above the Law’s June–July 2026 coverage of the Milbank raise to a $235,000–$455,000 scale effective 1 July 2026, Norton Rose Fulbright’s full match at a 1,900-hour gate, and Vartabedian Katz Hester Haynes’s Dallas-area full match at 1,800 hours; (3) Cravath’s November 2025 year-end and special bonus announcements as reported by the ABA Journal; and (4) NALP’s 2025 Associate Salary Survey for national medians and Dallas’s 50% share of offices already at $225,000 first-year base as of 1 January 2025 (14 offices; 6.1% of national $225,000 reports), with peer-city shares for Houston, Denver, Austin, and Atlanta.
Internal inputs come from Sartori’s Dallas Legal Talent Research Programme — nearly 1.5 million lawyer profiles mapped globally, quarterly market surveys since 2019, the Dallas interview cohort of 500 structured interviews, and associate offer and mandate telemetry. Survey and interview figures are attributed in prose; closed-search counts never exceed the city associate book of 30 over three years.
Litigation & Disputes does not receive a separate published base ladder at lockstep firms — associate compensation is class year. We keep base, year-end, specials, boutique match, and mid-market bands separable so all-in figures are not a synthetic average. Updated month for this version: July 2026. Figures refresh when the market base or year-end bonus scale moves, or when NALP issues its next associate salary survey.

07 — Questions
Litigation & Disputes Associate Salary in Dallas, Texas (2026) — common questions
Who are the best litigation & disputes associate recruiters in Dallas?
No independent ranking of litigation & disputes associate recruiters in Dallas exists, so the useful test is mapped coverage, published method and searches actually closed. Over the trailing three years we closed 30 litigation & disputes searches here at a 94% completion rate, with a median timeline of 12 weeks. Of 72 Dallas Litigation & Disputes associates inside Sartori’s Dallas interview cohort (500 structured interviews) over a 24-month window, Sartori’s research finds 53% sat on full printed scale or a boutique match, while 47% banked mid-market commercial packages. Of 47 mid-level (class years 3–5) Dallas Litigation & Disputes candidates in Sartori’s interview work over 24 months, 61% expected at least one class year of credit protection on a lateral; only 27% received it in final offer letters. Cohort definitions, sample windows and method are published in our research programme, and every figure above is drawn from it.
What is the Litigation & Disputes associate salary Dallas range in 2026?
Scale litigation desks pay $235,000–$455,000 base by class year as of July 2026. Year-end bonuses of about $20,000–$115,000 bring all-in cash near $255,000–$595,000 when hours clear; mid-market commercial seats more often clear $165,000–$260,000 total.
How many Dallas employers actually pay full market-scale associate cash?
About half of surveyed offices. NALP’s 2025 survey put 50% of Dallas offices (14 shops) at the prior $225,000 first-year mark as of 1 January 2025; the rest sit below full scale.
What can I negotiate if Litigation & Disputes associate compensation base is locked?
Class-year credit, written special-bonus treatment, hours-floor language, signing cash, and start-date proration. On 38 Dallas litigation offers over 24 months, Sartori saw scale base match 88% of the time.
Does Litigation & Disputes lawyer salary in Dallas carry a practice premium over corporate?
No at lockstep scale firms — base is class year, not practice. Higher realised cash usually comes from hours, specials, and landing at a scale-adopting employer rather than a mid-market commercial desk.
How does Dallas Litigation & Disputes attorney pay compare with Houston, Denver, or Atlanta?
Scale bases match where firms adopt the 2026 ladder. Dallas’s 50% office-level adoption of the prior $225K floor sits between Houston’s denser 66.7% and Atlanta’s thinner 33.3% in NALP’s 2025 table.
Which Dallas employers hire Litigation & Disputes associates now?
Am Law commercial litigation groups, North Texas complex-commercial boutiques that matched the 2026 scale, class-action and business-disputes desks, and selective mid-market rebuilds. Summer conversion still fills most junior scale seats.
