Gibson Dunn Salary 2026: the dated table and the wrong match.

A Los Angeles general counsel who bids the last published U.S. first-year cell against London newly qualified cash is not bidding one 2026 number. The second search sits on a public replacement-cost band of one-half to two times salary.

Two tables, one 2026 number, a second search.

The last public Gibson Dunn salary cell a Los Angeles general counsel can actually open is still $225,000. Sartori maps roughly 23,000 lawyers in Los Angeles; that file records class year and employer, not unpublished bonus memos.

Lens 01 · The U.S. first-year cell The last public U.S. first-year cell is still $225,000.

Above the Law reported on 1 December 2023 that Gibson Dunn announced a full match to the Cravath class-year grid printed 28 November 2023. The firm’s own San Francisco securities-litigation careers page, accessed 11 September 2026, still opens at that $225,000 floor. Gallup’s 2× ceiling on that base is $450,000.

The 2026 market lockstep is a different table, and this firm has not been scored as matching it. The dated U.S. grid is set out below.

02 The dated U.S. table

The last published Gibson Dunn salary table is still the 2025 lockstep.

California pay-scale posting put the class-year band on the careers page a general counsel can open. It did not update the 2023 match.

Above the Law reported on 1 December 2023 that Gibson Dunn announced raises and bonuses as “a full match,” with those off the grid receiving a separate notification. The contemporaneous class-year bases the market matched that week are the Cravath table Above the Law printed on 28 November 2023, effective 1 January 2024: $225,000 for a first-year through $420,000 for a seventh-year. ABA Journal’s matcher list dated 30 November 2023, updated 1 December at 8:05 a.m., did not yet include the firm; the Above the Law item posted later that afternoon. That sequence is journalism of a memo match, not a PDF this page extracted cell by cell.

The eighth-year cell is a different document. Cravath’s 2023 table as printed stops at the class of 2017. Biglaw Investor’s historical market table records an eighth-year / senior step of $435,000 for calendar years 2024 and 2025. The firm’s own San Francisco securities-litigation careers page, accessed 11 September 2026, still posts a $225,000–$435,000 annual range. Treat $435,000 as a careers-page ceiling and a tracker senior step, not as a number lifted from a Gibson Dunn raise PDF.

The last scored U.S. associate base grid this firm was reported as matching, plus the eighth-year ceiling that appears on 2026 careers pages. Class years are as printed in November 2023. This is not the June 2026 market scale.

The 2026 careers pages are the statutory reason a company can see the band without a memo. California Labor Code § 432.3, added by SB 1162 and in force from 1 January 2023, requires an employer with 15 or more employees to include the pay scale in any job posting for a position that may be filled in California. The California Department of Industrial Relations’ Labor Commissioner FAQs, accessed 11 September 2026, state that a link is not enough: the scale must sit in the posting. That is why a Los Angeles-headquartered firm’s California and Texas associate pages still print lockstep-shaped ranges in 2026. They are base ranges. Each posting states that the salary offered within the range will depend on qualifications and other operational considerations, and that bonuses are discretionary and performance-based.

Sortable — Gibson Dunn’s own 2026 California and Texas associate careers pages, accessed 11 September 2026. Posted annual ranges still map to the 2025-vintage lockstep, not to the June 2026 market raise. Click a column header to re-rank.

Executive compensation & employee benefits Dallas 2020–2024 $235,000–$390,000 2nd through 6th

Posted seats, not a directory of every practice. Several of the litigation postings value a judicial clerkship; the securities-litigation brief asks for meaningful Delaware Court of Chancery experience. Those are credential gates on the same 2025-vintage cash, not a 2026 raise.

Gibson Dunn bonus is a shorter public trail. Above the Law reported on 27 November 2024 that the firm announced year-end and special bonuses as a full match to the prevailing market rate established by Milbank, again with those off the grid receiving a separate notification. The 3 December 2024 scorecard row records Gibson Dunn, 27 November 2024, class of 2024 at $15,000 / $6,000 prorated through class of 2017 at $115,000 / $25,000; hours undisclosed; payout undisclosed. Combined 2024 market cash from those two columns runs from $21,000 for a first-year before proration to $140,000 for the class of 2017. The 2025 bonus scorecard opened 26 November 2025 does not list the firm. Do not fill that cell.

NALP’s 2025 Associate Salary Survey, as of 1 January 2025 and reported by ABA Journal on 29 May 2025, puts the national first-year median at $200,000. Only 32 percent of reporting offices paid $225,000 to first-years; 45 percent among firms of 701 or more lawyers. NALP had not published a later associate salary survey as of 30 September 2026. The $225,000 floor on this firm’s careers pages is the large-firm lockstep, not the national median. The full NALP size-band story sits on the first-year pay reality page; it is context here, not the thesis.

03 The London table

London NQ cash is a different class and a different currency.

The firm’s own graduate FAQ stamps £180,000 as of 2025. A U.S. class-year dollar figure does not convert it.

Gibson Dunn London trainee and newly qualified cash as printed on the firm’s February 2026 and July 2026 graduate FAQs. NQ is stamped as of 2025. Not a U.S. class-year cell.

Gibson Dunn London Graduate Recruitment FAQs, February 2026 and July 2026; Legal Cheek 2026 firm profile.

Gibson Dunn London Graduate Recruitment 2025–2026 FAQs, updated February 2026, print a trainee starting salary of £65,000 in year one and £70,000 in year two, and “£180,000 per annum on qualification (as of 2025).” The July 2026 2026–2027 FAQ repeats that NQ figure. Legal Cheek’s 2026 firm profile, accessed 11 September 2026 and again on 30 September 2026, independently lists the same three cells. On 5 June 2026 Legal Cheek reported a competing U.S. London outfit moving newly qualified cash to £189,000 and stated that Davis Polk, Gibson Dunn, Paul Weiss and Willkie currently offer £180,000. Gibson Dunn’s London NQ had not been republished as a 2026 raise in that article.

Legal Cheek’s 30 September 2026 table of 113 firms still lists Gibson Dunn London at £180,000, with Davis Polk, Paul, Weiss and Willkie on the same cell and Sullivan & Cromwell at £181,000. The Magic Circle is still £150,000. Average NQ pay on that table is roughly £119,000, and 23 printed rows are £170,000 or higher. The firm’s own July 2026 FAQ still stamps £180,000 as of 2025, so the 30 September table is a confirmation, not a 2026 raise. The prior 29 September 2025 census had put the 100-plus-firm average at £118,756 and counted 18 U.S. London offices above £170,000. Bank of England daily spot on 30 September 2026 was £1 = $1.3285, so £180,000 converts to $239,130. That is a spot conversion, not payroll FX. It replaces the 1 September 2025 Legal Cheek converter, which had printed $225,000 as £167,000 and implied $242,515 for this sterling cell.

A London newly qualified solicitor is not a U.S. first-year and is not a U.S. midlevel. The sterling NQ sits $14,130 above the published U.S. first-year base and $70,870 below the published U.S. fourth-year base. A company that imports a U.S. class-of-2022 / fourth-year into a London NQ seat, or the reverse, is off by tens of thousands of dollars on base alone before bonus, tax, and the two-year Solicitors Regulation Authority qualifying-work-experience clock.

The mismatch a general counsel actually bids: last published U.S. class-year cells against London NQ cash and against ACC 2025 in-house medians. The sterling NQ is converted at the Bank of England spot on 30 September 2026 (£1 = $1.3285), not at the 1 September 2025 Legal Cheek book.

The two firm publications on intake should not be collapsed. The February 2026 FAQ said “up to fifteen” trainees per year. The July 2026 FAQ says up to twenty-five trainees per year for 2028 and 2029, with applications open 1 September 2026 and closing 8 January 2027. Legal Cheek’s money box prints 25 training contracts. Report both documents; the July PDF is the later firm publication. The Solicitors Regulation Authority SQE route page, dated August 2025, is the qualification gate under that cash: a degree in any subject, SQE1 and SQE2, two years’ full-time qualifying work experience, and suitability checks. That two-year clock is the training contract. It is not a U.S. class year.

A head of talent at a Los Angeles-headquartered industrial company told us the London sterling figure arrived in the requisition as if it were a U.S. first-year. The seat on the brief was a San Francisco securities-litigation midlevel with Delaware Court of Chancery experience. The cash was the London table. The firm’s own posting for that practice still maps classes 2019–2023 to $260,000–$420,000. Those are not the same hire. The UK-to-U.S. compensation-pressure brief covers the candidate side of that jump; this page is the company’s misread of the two tables.

London is also the firm’s largest office outside the United States. Global Legal Post, 18 December 2025, put the office at 218 lawyers including 49 partners, grown from 84 lawyers in 2020. The 17 December 2025 promotions release elected 42 lawyers effective 1 January 2026, the largest partner class in the firm’s history, with 26 percent of the class in London and 40 percent located outside the United States. The American Lawyer reprint of 8 April 2026 put U.K. revenue at about $317 million, up roughly 33 percent. That is the office that earns the sterling NQ. It is not a satellite that can be paid on the U.S. first-year cell.

A London newly qualified solicitor is not a U.S. first-year and is not a U.S. midlevel.

04 Who pays it

The company payroll that can absorb this cash is a chief legal officer package, not a staff-attorney band.

ACC 2025 medians are the in-house numbers a general counsel actually authorizes. A U.S. fourth-year on the last published scale already sits above them.

The last published Gibson Dunn U.S. careers band ($225,000–$435,000) placed on the same axis as ACC 2025 in-house median bases. The company titles are what a general counsel authorizes; the highlighted range is what the firm still posts. Click a marker for the source.

ACC 2025 Law Department Compensation Survey Executive Summary ↗

The Association of Corporate Counsel 2025 Law Department Compensation Survey, data effective 1 March 2025, is the in-house table a chief legal officer can take to the board; ACC had not published a 2026 executive summary as of 30 September 2026. Among 1,632 respondents, median attorney base is $148,000; senior attorney $201,000; associate general counsel $245,000; deputy general counsel $280,000; GC/CLO $330,000. Median total cash at GC/CLO is $410,000; the 90th percentile of total cash at that title is $764,000. CLOs at companies with revenue greater than $5 billion earn 44 percent more in base and 173 percent more in total target compensation than CLOs at organizations under $1 billion; large-company CLO median total target exceeds $1 million. That last band is the first in-house package that can absorb a senior associate or junior partner off this firm’s last published ladder without a title the board did not plan to spend.

A U.S. fourth-year at $310,000 base already sits above median AGC base and above median DGC base. A seventh-year at $420,000 base exceeds ACC median deputy-general-counsel total cash of $368,000 and sits near GC/CLO median total cash. The company is not buying a second-year when it hires from this platform into a leadership title. It is buying the person who used to send the invoice, or it is paying the invoice.

The 2026 ACC Chief Legal Officers Survey makes that structure measurable. Across 20 industries and 43 countries, 63 percent of those officers expect legal-department headcount to remain stable, 48 percent report using outside counsel as the pressure valve for enforcement complexity, and 27 percent report using consultants the same way. Budget and resource constraints are the top barrier for 35 percent. Eighty-four percent of CLOs report directly to the CEO; 79 percent almost always attend board meetings; the CLO title itself is used by 34 percent. Trade and tariffs are the fastest-growing regulatory concern at 30 percent, ahead of AI regulation at 24 percent. The company reader of this page is often the officer who will not open a headcount and will still pay Gibson Dunn on the matter.

In that interview cohort, 64 of 108 in-house general counsel, chief legal officers and heads of legal at sponsor, energy and public-company departments over a 24-month window said they had priced a lockstep-platform leaver against an associate-general-counsel band and then either withdrawn the requisition or reopened it. A chief legal officer at a private-equity-backed energy platform told us they had authorized a $245,000 AGC band against a fourth-year they had mentally filed as newly qualified cash. The cash gap was the first thing the candidate saw. The title jump was the second.

Seventy-seven percent of ACC 2025 respondents report prior law-firm experience; 28 percent changed jobs in the past two years; 17 percent plan to change in the coming year. Non-promoted merit increases ran a mean of 3.5 percent and a median of 3.0 percent. Those are not Gibson Dunn figures. They are why a lockstep leaver does not land on a 3 percent merit pool. The in-house counsel salary 2026 and general counsel salary 2026 pages own the wider company-payroll story; this page is the collision with one named firm’s last public table.

The firm’s 2025 Annual Report maps more than 4,500 alumni across 40-plus countries, including 1,200-plus in-house, 180-plus at Fortune 100 companies, 125-plus at Fortune 50, 500-plus in government and 60-plus judges. That is an exit map, not a placement statistic for any one year, and it is why a hyperscaler or sponsor chief legal officer seat is a partner-level in-house conversation while a portfolio-company first general counsel is a leaner one. The same report lists more than 2,200 lawyers; the locations page accessed 11 September 2026 says 23 locations after Madrid opened on 27 April 2026. Chambers USA 2026, on a firm-supplied profile, still prints a stale “more than 1,900 lawyers and 21 offices” line; do not use that headcount.

05 The second-search cost

A wrong 2026 match is a second search sitting on a public replacement-cost band.

Gallup’s measured range is one-half to two times annual salary. Applied to the last published cells, that is the cost of reopening the file — not a search fee.

Gallup’s 22 July 2021 replacement-cost ceiling (two times annual salary) applied only to last published Gibson Dunn-matched bases and to the Legal Cheek sterling-NQ equivalent. Not a legal-specific survey and not a Sartori fee.

Gallup, 22 July 2021; bases from the 28 November 2023 Cravath grid as matched 1 December 2023; London equivalent at the Bank of England spot on 30 September 2026.

Gallup’s 22 July 2021 analysis of the “Great Discontent,” still the measured range, states that replacing exiting workers costs one-half to two times the employee’s annual salary. Applied to the last published U.S. first-year base, that band is $112,500 to $450,000. On the London NQ equivalent it is $119,565 to $478,260. On the U.S. fourth-year cell it is $155,000 to $620,000. On the U.S. seventh-year cell it is $210,000 to $840,000. That is not a legal-recruiting fee and not a law-firm write-off. It is the public human-resources replacement range applied to the dated table, plus the cash delta in the mismatch table above, plus another 6 to 12 weeks on a clock the board thought had already closed.

Sartori has worked Los Angeles associate search since 2017, for companies matching lockstep leavers into in-house titles and for firms filling the same class-year seats. Over the trailing three years the desk closed 30 associate searches at a 93 percent completion rate, on a typical timeline of 6 to 12 weeks, with counter-offer incidence of 33 percent and a median of 9 working days from offer to signature. Of those 30 closed files, 12 were company-side mandates buying a midlevel off a U.S. lockstep platform into an in-house title. 4 of those 12 reopened after the first accepted candidate declined or left inside six months. The reopen, not the first offer letter, is the cost the Gallup ceiling is sizing. One document, two geosA second search

  1. Bid U.S. class-year into London A dollar grid keyed to years out of a U.S. law school, dropped onto an SQE two-year qualifying-work-experience seat. The sterling NQ is the published cell; the U.S. fourth-year is not a translation of it.
  2. Bid London NQ into a U.S. class year Sterling qualification cash treated as a U.S. first-year, against a careers page that still maps midlevel classes to $260,000–$420,000. The candidate reads both documents. The general counsel often reads one.
  3. Keep headcount flat and pay the invoice The ACC 2026 majority: legal-department headcount stable, outside counsel as the enforcement valve. The expensive mistake is opening a seat on the wrong table and then running the search twice.

Two engagements, anonymized. A private-equity-backed energy platform asked Sartori to fill an associate general counsel seat. The authorized base sat on the ACC median AGC cell. The target was a fourth-year off a U.S. lockstep platform. The cash gap was visible in week three. The first accepted candidate declined after a counter-offer. The file reopened. It closed in week 11 of the second process, on a deputy-general-counsel title the board had not wanted to spend. The combined clock ran past the 12-week end of the usual band for this line. A Los Angeles-headquartered industrial treated a London NQ sterling figure as a U.S. first-year bid for a San Francisco securities-litigation midlevel. Delaware Court of Chancery experience was on the brief. The cash was the London table. The seat was the U.S. third-to-seventh-year band on the firm’s own posting. Sartori declined to run the search until the class year and the geo were the same document. That refusal is the finding that does not flatter the method: the firm will not take a mandate whose cash table cannot survive contact with the careers page.

Quarterly surveys running since 2019 are the global instrument behind those city reads. 1,480,000+ lawyer profiles sit on the global map. What the Los Angeles mapping file cannot see is an unpublished 2025 bonus memo. When the scorecard does not list the firm, the honest answer to a general counsel is that the cell is not public — not a filled-in number.

06 Partner economics

Gibson Dunn PEP is not partner salary.

FY2025 profits per equity partner were $8.890 million. That is an Am Law average for equity owners, not a paycheck, and not associate scale.

Above the Law, on 15 April 2026, reprinting the 2026 Am Law 100 for fiscal 2025, put Gibson Dunn gross revenue at $4.211 billion, up 18.37 percent, rank 4, one place above Skadden after DLA Piper at $4.583 billion and behind Kirkland at $10.556 billion and Latham at $8.300 billion. Profits per equity partner were $8.890 million, up 23.90 percent, rank 5, behind Wachtell, Kirkland, Davis Polk and Quinn Emanuel. Legal Business, 9 April 2026, put revenue at $4.2 billion from $3.6 billion in 2024. Those are survey financials of a U.S.-headquartered firm. They are not take-home for any named partner, and they are not the associate table in §02.

The firm-hosted reprint of Dan Roe in The American Lawyer, 8 April 2026, is the source for the mix underneath that PEP. Gross revenue and net income each rose roughly 18 percent. PEP jumped nearly 24 percent to $8.89 million, in part due to a 4.6 percent decline in equity partners. FTE headcount rose 6.4 percent. The nonequity tier rose 17 percent, with a record 42 partner elevations at end-2025 against 35 the prior year, plus laterals. The equity tier fell 4.6 percent on ordinary-course retirements. Partners de-equitize at age 68. The chair declined to comment on hourly-rate growth and declined to discuss specific collections figures. Individual partner salary is therefore not a public 2026 figure. The Am Law top-50 partner-pay brief is the public-data method for reading PEP as a proxy; it is not this firm’s W-2.

FY2025 headcount mix from the American Lawyer reprint hosted by the firm on 9 April 2026. Equity-partner decline is one input to the PEP rise; it is not associate scale and not take-home.

The American Lawyer, 8 April 2026; Gibson Dunn reprint, 9 April 2026.

The 2025 Annual Report, January 2026 cycle, records more than 2,200 lawyers and 1,000-plus staff worldwide, 42 colleagues elevated to partner, 31 lateral partners, and over 350 associates and of counsel. London contributed 11 of those promotions and eight lateral partners in 2025. Practice labels in the 2026 class, counts only, clustered in litigation, antitrust and competition, real estate, appellate and constitutional law, finance, private equity, transportation and space, and business restructuring. Do not read those elevations as a 2026 associate raise. They are the nonequity and equity mix that produces an $8.890 million average.

A general counsel who asks what Gibson Dunn partner salary is in 2026 is asking a question the public record does not answer. Gibson Dunn PEP is an average of equity profit, not a partner salary. The honest cells are the associate lockstep the firm still posts, the London NQ the firm still stamps as of 2025, and that Am Law average. Anything else — nonequity partner cash, origination credit, a lateral guarantee, a billing-rate card — is not in the sources opened for this page and is omitted.

07 What prices the seats

Megadeals, large-load tariffs and a tariff docket price midlevels. They do not fill a missing raise memo.

Demand for the work on this firm’s last public table is a 2025–2026 stack of capital-cycle and regulatory events. None of them is a 2026 Gibson Dunn raise.

London Stock Exchange Group Deals Intelligence, 12 August 2026, put announced M&A for January–July 2026 at US$3.19 trillion, up 36 percent year on year, on more than 28,000 transactions, down 10 percent. Forty-eight mega-deals above US$10 billion totaled US$1.29 trillion, about 40 percent of value. Americas volume was US$1.84 trillion, up 51 percent; U.S. targets US$1.69 trillion; European targets US$773 billion, up 78 percent, with the U.K. 35 percent of European activity. That mix hires M&A and private-equity midlevels and partners on fewer, larger files — the Houston M&A posting asking classes 2021–2024, not a first-year campus surge. Gibson Dunn’s own Q1 2026 accolades page, 8 April 2026, put the firm second in Bloomberg Law global M&A on 59 deals valued at over $334 billion. The annual report’s 1,150-plus deals / $890 billion series is a third methodology. Do not collapse the three.

Bloomberg Law, 17 August 2026, reporting Citi Global Wealth at Work Law Firm Group, put industry revenue up 11.7 percent in the first half of 2026, billable hours up 4.2 percent against a long-term demand average of 1.5 to 2 percent, total expenses up 9.7 percent and compensation expense up 8.9 percent. Am Law 50 revenue rose 13.1 percent. Thomson Reuters Institute’s January 2026 Report on the State of the US Legal Market had already recorded 2025 weekday-adjusted demand averaging 2.5 percent, talent costs up 8.2 percent, and a forecast of contraction by mid-2026, with many general counsel squeezed on stagnant budgets. That January line is a forecast. Citi’s August print is the later measured half. A company that froze 2026 in-house headcount on the forecast is bidding ACC medians against a firm still running megadeal and investigations hours.

FERC, on 18 June 2026, issued tailored show-cause orders under Federal Power Act § 206 to PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO-NE and NYISO on tariffs that govern how data centers, manufacturing facilities and other large energy users connect to the grid, with 60 days to justify or file tariff changes. The primary order in PJM is PJM Interconnection, L.L.C., 195 FERC ¶ 61,211, Docket EL26-67-000. The firm’s data-center and digital-infrastructure practice page names FERC among the energy-regulation desks on those files. A 7 September 2026 London real-estate and data-center partner announcement stated the practice had already advised on more than 350 matters worldwide in 2026. The annual report recorded more than 225 data-center transactions in 2025; the American Lawyer reprint said more than 200. Different counts, same desk: energy regulation, hyperscale leases, funds and M&A, priced at midlevel and partner, not at campus first-year.

Trade hours moved twice. Executive Order 14257, 2 April 2025, imposed additional ad valorem duties under IEEPA, a grant the Supreme Court, in Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump and Trump v. V.O.S. Selections, Inc., decided 20 February 2026, held does not authorize the President to impose tariffs. The holding is about IEEPA authority, not about every other tariff statute. ACC’s 2026 CLO survey still put trade and tariffs as the fastest-growing concern at 30 percent. The in-house response, for 48 percent of those officers, is to send the file out. That is a reason the associate scale is being paid. It is not a reason to invent a 2026 match.

Who writes the checkWhat the check is for

  1. The firm payroll U.S. class-year lockstep still posted at $225,000–$435,000, or London NQ cash stamped as of 2025. Last scored bonus 2024. This is what the associate earns.
  2. The in-house package ACC title, equity, reporting line. Absorbs a lockstep leaver only when the title and the company-size band clear the class-year cell. This is what a chief legal officer authorizes.
  3. The outside-counsel invoice The ACC 2026 majority path: headcount flat, overflow on investigations, FERC, mega-M&A and trade. The company pays Gibson Dunn without putting the lawyer on the payroll.
08 How to match it

Put the class year and the geo on the same document before anyone sees a number.

The associate who earns the figure and the general counsel who pays it are reading the same two tables. They should not be reading two different years.

The requisition has to name a class year, a geo and a title that can actually clear the cell.

  • Open the careers page, not the market scale. The 2026 $235,000 first-year figure is a peer table. This firm’s own postings still open at $225,000.
  • Stamp the London cell with its year. The FAQ says “as of 2025.” A U.S. class-year dollar figure is not a conversion of it.
  • Match title to class year on the ACC grid. A fourth-year at $310,000 is already above median AGC and DGC base. If the board will not spend deputy or GC, do not brief a fourth-year.
  • Price the reopen before the first offer. Gallup’s two-times ceiling on a mismatched fourth-year is $620,000. The reopen, not the first offer letter, is the cost that band is sizing.
  • Hold the seat only if you need the named officer. Otherwise the 2026 CLO majority — stable headcount, outside counsel as the valve — is the cheaper document. Start a conversation on in-house counsel recruiting when the named officer is the brief.

Your class year is a public cell. The 2026 market raise is a different table, and PEP is not your number.

  • Read the posting range as the 2025 lockstep. A $225,000–$435,000 band in 2026 is the last scored grid, not a silent match to $235,000–$455,000.
  • Treat 2024 as the last scored bonus. Year-end plus special, $15,000/$6,000 through $115,000/$25,000, hours and payout undisclosed. 2025 is not a public Gibson Dunn row.
  • Do not read PEP as an associate path. $8.890 million is an equity-partner average after a 4.6 percent equity decline. Nonequity grew 17 percent. De-equitization at 68 is a partner-tier fact.
  • London NQ is stamped as of 2025. £180,000 is not a U.S. first-year and is not a U.S. fourth-year. New York 2L offers remain open 14 days on the firm’s own how-to-apply page; that clock is not the London FAQ.
  • Clerkship credit is real; the signing-bonus dollar is not public. More than 450 of the firm’s lawyers have clerked. The dollar amount of the clerkship signing bonus is unpublished and omitted here.

Gibson Dunn pay: the questions a general counsel and an associate actually ask

What is Gibson Dunn salary in 2026?

The last public Gibson Dunn U.S. associate base is $225,000 to $435,000, still printed on 2026 careers pages (accessed 11 September 2026). Above the Law reported a full raise match on 1 December 2023 to the Cravath grid announced 28 November 2023. The firm does not appear on Above the Law’s 2026 raise scorecard as accessed on 30 September 2026, so a 2026 $235,000 first-year figure is not a Gibson Dunn publication. London newly qualified cash is a different table: £180,000 as of 2025 on the firm’s own graduate FAQs, still the figure on Legal Cheek’s 2026 firm profile.

What is Gibson Dunn associate salary by class year?

The last scored class-year grid runs $225,000 for a first-year to $420,000 for a seventh-year. That is the Cravath 28 November 2023 table Gibson Dunn was reported as matching. An eighth-year $435,000 ceiling appears on the firm’s 2026 San Francisco securities-litigation careers page and in Biglaw Investor’s 2024–2025 senior step; it was not a cell in the 2023 memo HTML. Class years on 2026 Texas and California postings still map to that 2025-vintage lockstep, not to the June 2026 market raise.

Did Gibson Dunn match the 2026 $235,000 market scale?

No public 2026 Gibson Dunn match appears on Above the Law’s raise scorecard as of 30 September 2026; the scorecard was last updated 17 September 2026 with no Gibson Dunn row. Milbank set a $235,000–$455,000 market scale on 2 June 2026, effective 1 July 2026; that table belongs to the 2026 BigLaw associate salary scale. Gibson Dunn’s own careers pages accessed on 11 September 2026 still open at $225,000 and cap at $420,000 or $435,000.

What is the last public Gibson Dunn bonus?

Gibson Dunn last matched year-end and special bonuses on 27 November 2024, from $15,000/$6,000 through $115,000/$25,000. Above the Law’s 3 December 2024 scorecard records those cells with hours and payout undisclosed. The firm is not a row on the 2025 bonus scorecard opened 26 November 2025, re-checked 30 September 2026. Do not invent a 2025 Gibson Dunn bonus dollar amount. The 2025 Cravath year-end grid is market context, not this firm’s scored memo.

Is Gibson Dunn partner salary a public 2026 figure?

No. FY2025 profits per equity partner were $8.890 million, an Am Law average, not a paycheck. Above the Law’s 15 April 2026 reprint of the 2026 Am Law 100 put that PEP at rank 5, up 23.90 percent, with gross revenue $4.211 billion at rank 4. Individual draws, nonequity partner cash and billing rates are not in the public sources opened for this page. Gibson Dunn PEP is a ratio of distributable profit to equity-partner headcount.

How should a general counsel match a Gibson Dunn hire against an in-house band?

A U.S. fourth-year at $310,000 base already sits above the ACC 2025 median associate-general-counsel base of $245,000. The same ACC survey, data effective 1 March 2025, puts median deputy-general-counsel base at $280,000 and GC/CLO median total cash at $410,000; no 2026 edition of that survey had published an executive summary as of 30 September 2026, so these remain the latest public medians. A seventh-year at $420,000 base exceeds that deputy total-cash median. Large-company chief legal officers, at organizations above $5 billion revenue, are the first in-house band the ACC summary says can absorb senior-associate all-in without a title jump: those CLO median total-target packages exceed $1 million. Bid the class year and the geo on the same document, or you are running a second search.

Memos, scorecards, firm pages and surveys behind the two tables.

Associate bases come from the 2023 match, the firm’s own 2026 careers pages, and the London FAQs. PEP comes from the 2026 Am Law 100. In-house medians come from ACC. Replacement cost is Gallup’s published band, applied to those bases.

Associate bases are the 28 November 2023 Cravath grid Gibson Dunn was reported as matching on 1 December 2023, plus the firm’s own 2026 careers-page bands. The eighth-year $435,000 cell is the careers-page ceiling and the Biglaw Investor 2024–2025 senior step, not a cell extracted from a Gibson Dunn PDF. London NQ is the firm’s February and July 2026 FAQs, stamped as of 2025. The $239,130 equivalent is £180,000 at the Bank of England spot on 30 September 2026 (£1 = $1.3285), not payroll FX and not the 1 September 2025 Legal Cheek converter. PEP is an Am Law average for FY2025, not take-home. ACC figures are self-reported, data effective 1 March 2025 for compensation (the 2026 edition was not public as of 30 September 2026) and January 2026 for the CLO survey. Gallup’s 0.5–2× band is an all-role replacement range applied to published bases, not a legal-specific fee.

Our own numbers — the Los Angeles interview cohort, the mandate telemetry, the counter-offer incidence and the offer-to-acceptance window — come from the continuous research program described on our research page.

A quiet conversation

Matching a Gibson Dunn-scale hire against an in-house band?

We will tell you when the class year and the geo are not the same document. Confidential, no obligation — for the general counsel who has to put the lawyer on the payroll, and for the associate who has to read the cell that is actually public.
