2026 pay at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius: rank, ladder, bonus

On 15 April 2026 the Am Law 100, covering calendar 2025, moved Philadelphia-headquartered Morgan, Lewis & Bockius from No. 10 to No. 11 by gross revenue. What an associate still earns, and what a general counsel matching this firm must still price, sits on older public cells.

The 2026 public cell is a rank

Rank, lagged partner profit, the December 2023 associate bases and the November 2025 bonus are four different instruments. Pick the one that matches the payroll question.

Lens 01 · The rank The 2026 public cell is No. 11, not a paycheck.

On 15 April 2026 the ABA Journal, reporting Law.com’s 2026 Am Law 100, recorded Morgan, Lewis & Bockius moving from No. 10 to No. 11 by calendar-2025 gross revenue. Rank is public. The 2025 PEP dollar is not.

The 2026 Am Law rank, the 2024 PEP, the December 2023 associate bases and the November 2025 bonus match do not add into a single 2026 paycheck. Every cell is cited below.

Sartori maps about 7,500 lawyers in Philadelphia. That coverage is a density read of the metro this firm still calls home, not a headcount for one partnership. A general counsel searching Morgan Lewis salary is asking a payroll question: what cash this platform still prints for the associate being hired away, and what that cash does to the in-house band.

02 The 2026 rank

What the Am Law tables actually printed

The dated 2026 partner-pay disclosure for this firm is a rank. The last measured dollars are a year older.

Public in April 2026Still behind a paywall

  1. Gross-revenue rank The 2026 Am Law 100 printed a slot. That is the cell a general counsel can read without a subscription.
  2. Lagged financials Revenue, lawyer count, revenue per lawyer and PEP that can be named for this firm are calendar-2024 cells.
  3. 2025 dollars / 2026 PEP Firm-level calendar-2025 revenue and a 2026 profits-per-equity-partner paycheck were not on the free pages.

The 2026 public cell is a rank, not a paycheck. On 15 April 2026 the ABA Journal, reporting Law.com’s 2026 Am Law 100, wrote that Morgan, Lewis & Bockius “was at No. 10 in the rankings last year, but moved down to No. 11.” The same article records 62 firms with gross revenue of $1 billion or more in calendar 2025, against 58 in 2024, and 94 firms with revenue gains. It does not print this firm’s 2025 dollar revenue or PEP.

Above the Law’s 15 April 2026 print of the same ranking fills the top-10 dollar table without this firm in it. Simpson Thacher & Bartlett sits at No. 10 on $3.553 billion of calendar-2025 gross revenue, up 22.66 percent. That is the neighbor that took the tenth slot. Industrywide, the same write-up records Am Law 100 PEP up 14 percent in calendar 2025, with 70 firms posting PEP growth of at least 10 percent and only two firms reporting PEP declines. That 14 percent is an industry figure. It is not this firm’s 2025 PEP, and it is not applied to the 2024 cell below.

The last measured firm-level dollars are 2025 Am Law figures for fiscal 2024. Above the Law’s 15 April 2025 table lists Morgan, Lewis & Bockius at rank 10 on gross revenue of $3,098,511,000, up 6.90 percent. The 2025 Global 200 table, compiled from Law.com International, repeats that revenue, puts about 1,960 lawyers against it, and records revenue per lawyer of $1,581,000 and profits per equity partner of $2,118,000. Those PEP and headcount cells are calendar 2024. Accessed 30 September 2026, the free Global 200 compilation still prints that row and does not print a calendar-2025 revenue or PEP dollar for this firm. They are not a 2026 paycheck.

The revenue path that is public, named contemporaneously in Above the Law’s bonus and raise write-ups, is three fiscal years: $2,745,251,000 of 2022 gross revenue (then reported as Am Law rank 8, 4 December 2023); $2,898,514,000 of 2023 gross revenue (rank 10, 5 December 2024); $3,098,511,000 of 2024 gross revenue (rank 10, 15 April 2025). Calendar-2025 dollars remain unpublished in the free pages. Rank slipped one slot in the 2026 list. The last named dollar still rose.

Firm-level gross revenue as named in Above the Law's contemporaneous Am Law citations. Calendar-2025 dollars were not on the 2026 free pages, so they are not drawn.

Above the Law, 4 December 2023, 5 December 2024 and 15 April 2025 (Am Law 100 tables and restatements).

The employer’s own pages, accessed 30 September 2026, state “more than 2,200 lawyers and legal professionals” across 30+ offices. A 14 March 2025 firm news item uses the same 2,200 band, adds 15 core practice areas and 13 industries, and places the footprint on four continents. That 2,200 figure is a mixed lawyers-and-professionals band. It is not the 1,960-lawyer ALM count for fiscal 2024, and the two must not be averaged. The accolades page states that clients include more than 90 percent of Fortune 100 companies and over 75 percent of Fortune 500 companies. That is an employer claim about the buyer universe a general counsel on this page already sits in, not a third-party audit of the client list.

03 The last named ladder

Morgan Lewis salary: the last named associate ladder

The last firm-named base scale is still the December 2023 Cravath-scale match. The 2026 market moved. This firm is not on the match list.

Across 250 structured interviews with Philadelphia associates and counsel, 82 sitting at Am Law 50–100 platforms described their last confirmed class-year base as the December 2023 Cravath-scale match; 57 said no later firm memo had reset it. That is a cohort read of what people can document, not a claim that every office still prints the 2023 grid on every offer letter.

Above the Law, on 4 December 2023, reported that the firm used the Cravath scale for 2024: class of 2023 at $225,000; 2022 at $235,000; 2021 at $260,000; 2020 at $310,000; 2019 at $365,000; 2018 at $390,000; 2017 at $420,000; 2016 at $435,000. No 2025 or 2026 firm memo resets those bases. Class-year labels in the table below are as of that December 2023 confirmation. A 2026 first-year is a later class; the last named first-year cell remains $225,000 until a new memo appears.

Last firm-named associate base salary by class year, as confirmed by Above the Law on 4 December 2023. Sortable. This is the 2024 Cravath-scale match, not a 2026 firm memo. The 2026 market scale sits in the comparison table underneath, labeled as market.

Class of 2016 8th year as of Dec 2023 $435,000

Figures: Above the Law, 4 December 2023. A general counsel matching this firm in 2026 still has this grid as the last named lockstep. Bonus cash is a separate 2025-performance cell in the next section.

Three public cells a general counsel actually has in September 2026: the last named Morgan Lewis base, the 2026 market scale, and the ACC in-house substitute. Years sit in the column headers.

NALP has not published a 2026 associate salary survey. The 2025 U.S. Associate Salary Survey, data as of 1 January 2025 and released 28 May 2025, remains the latest office-level distribution: overall median first-year base $200,000 across 437 responding offices, and $215,000 at firms of more than 700 lawyers. The $225,000 cell was modal: 32 percent of all entry-level bases, 45 percent among 701-or-more-lawyer firms. Only 32 percent of offices offered $225,000. Philadelphia does not appear in NALP’s June 2025 table of cities with six or more reporting offices, so this page does not invent a Philadelphia adoption share. The national distribution is the context: this firm’s last named floor sat on the then-modal large-firm cell, not on NALP’s $200,000 overall median. That $225,000 mode is a 1 January 2025 fact. It is not a 2026 Morgan Lewis salary.

NALP’s Class of 2025 National Summary Report, tables prepared August 2026, measures employment as of 16 March 2026. It records 6,588 private-practice jobs at firms of 501 or more lawyers — 33.2 percent of law-firm jobs — at a median of $225,000 on 6,017 reported salaries. The 5 August 2026 press release says those firms hired about 540 fewer graduates than the Class of 2024, and that their share of law-firm jobs fell from 34.2 percent to 33.2 percent. Business, the in-house-adjacent first job, took 2,180 graduates, 6.7 percent of employment-category jobs, at a median of $100,000. That is the entry alternative a general counsel competes with when the candidate is a year out, not when the candidate is a fifth-year on this platform’s last named $365,000 rung. The $225,000 large-firm median is a Class of 2025 starting salary. It does not reset this firm’s December 2023 ladder.

04 Morgan Lewis bonus

Morgan Lewis bonus: the 2025 match paid in 2026

The last named bonus cell is a November 2025 market match, paid into January 2026. It is legal-press reporting, not a hosted firm PDF.

Above the Law, on 18 December 2025, reported that sources said the firm offered prevailing market year-end and special bonuses on 24 November 2025, with associates seeing the cash in January 2026. Outstanding performers were described as eligible for additional “extraordinary” above-market awards. The reported class-year grid: class of 2024, $20,000 year-end and $6,000 special; 2023, $30,000 and $10,000; 2022, $57,500 and $15,000; 2021, $75,000 and $20,000; 2020, $90,000 and $25,000; 2019, $105,000 and $25,000; 2018 and senior, $115,000 and $25,000. The dollar grid matches the lockstep market schedule Biglaw Investor prints for that season. The fact of a match is source reporting, not a PDF on the firm’s letterhead.

The prior season followed the same pattern. Above the Law, on 5 December 2024, reported that sources said 27 November 2024 voicemails matched market year-end and special bonuses, with a pay date of 31 January 2025, and that outstanding reviews might draw extra merit cash. The 2024-performance grid sat one class-year shifted: class of 2023 at $20,000 / $6,000 through class of 2017 and senior at $115,000 / $25,000. Two consecutive market matches do not prove a 2026 base match. They prove this platform has been willing, on the record, to follow the bonus lockstep while leaving the last named base memo in December 2023. A separate 2026 instrument is also not this firm’s. Above the Law reported on 27 July 2026 that Milbank announced special bonuses from $6,000 for the class of 2026 to $25,000 for the class of 2018 and special counsel, with no hours requirement and a 31 August 2026 payout. The scorecard’s Bonuses table, re-read 30 September 2026, does not list Morgan Lewis. The latest special-bonus match dated there is Cahill Gordon on 24 September 2026.

2025-performance year-end bonus by class year, as reported by Above the Law on 18 December 2025 (24 November 2025 announcement). Specials sit in the next column of the source grid and are not double-counted here.

Above the Law, 18 December 2025, reporting a 24 November 2025 internal announcement.

London is a separate published grid on the employer careers page, accessed 30 September 2026: first-year trainee £57,500; second-year trainee £62,500; qualification salary £173,000. The page still prints those three sterling figures. No 2026 reset of the London grid was on it. The English training-contract path asks for AAB at A-Level (or equivalent) and a 2:1, with PGDL then SQE for non-England-and-Wales law degrees. Those sterling figures are not the U.S. lockstep and are not converted here. They are the published earner cell for the London office a U.S. general counsel sometimes tries to match when the seat can sit in either place.

05 Who pays it

What a general counsel matching this firm actually prices

The person who earns the figure is on the lockstep. The person who pays it is already running an in-house band and an outside-counsel budget against the same platform.

Buy the partner hourSubstitute the seat

  1. Keep the partner Bet-the-company labor, funds, nuclear or FDA work stays with the outside-counsel bench. The general counsel is buying judgment, not an associate year.
  2. Match the lockstep A competitive in-house hire from this platform is priced against the last named class-year base plus the last named bonus, not against an unpublished 2026 memo.
  3. Build the in-house seat Routine hours and a named signature move inside, onto ACC bands, because the outside rate card and the associate burn no longer fit the same budget line.

Price the last named ladder. Do not invent a 2026 match this firm has not announced. The Association of Corporate Counsel and Empsight International’s 2025 Law Department Compensation Survey, 1,632 U.S. in-house respondents, data effective 1 March 2025, is the latest ACC executive summary with a public dollar table used on this page. No 2026 ACC median is substituted for it. It is the in-house substitute a chief legal officer can actually put on a requisition. Median base / total cash / total target direct compensation: general counsel / chief legal officer, $330,000 / $410,000 / $503,000; deputy general counsel, $280,000 / $368,000 / $424,000; associate general counsel, $245,000 / $294,000 / $338,000; senior attorney, $201,000 / $228,000 / $247,000; attorney, $148,000 / $160,000 / $165,000; vice president of legal operations, $246,000 / $285,000 / $308,000.

Two ACC cuts change the conversation a head of legal has with finance. Chief legal officers at companies with revenue greater than $5 billion make 44 percent more in base and 173 percent more in total target compensation than chief legal officers at organizations under $1 billion. Attorneys with prior law-firm experience show a 16 percent higher median base and 18 percent higher total cash; chief legal officers with prior firm experience show 21 percent and 13 percent. Seventy-seven percent of respondents had prior law-firm experience. Seventeen percent said they were likely to change jobs in the coming year, down from 20 percent. Non-promoted merit increase: average 3.5 percent, median 3.0 percent. None of those figures is this firm’s associate scale. They are what the same buyer pays the people who used to sit on it.

The public-company general counsel who actually writes this firm’s checks sits on a different survey. No 2026 Corporate Counsel median is used. Above the Law, on 1 August 2025, summarizing Corporate Counsel’s 2025 General Counsel Compensation Report, put median pay for all 544 ranked legal leaders at $2.95 million, with technology holding 13 of the top 20 spots and the top four — Alphabet, Broadcom, Apple, Amazon — each above $20 million, stock the bulk. Law.com’s 28 July 2025 listing page confirms the report is Corporate Counsel and ALM Intelligence, Fortune 1000 proxies, fiscal years ending after 30 June 2024, n=544, limited by SEC five-named-executive-officer disclosure. That $2.95 million is not an ACC all-company median. It is the legal chief whose outside-counsel budget already contains Am Law 11 rates.

Thomson Reuters Institute and Georgetown Law’s 2026 Report on the State of the US Legal Market, published 7 January 2026, is the cyclical overlay on those bands. Average-firm profit growth of 13 percent in 2025; worked rates up 7.3 percent; weekday-adjusted demand as high as 4.4 percent in July 2025 and 1.9 percent for the full year, with the third quarter at 3.9 percent. Am Law 100 demand “couldn’t crack 2 percent.” The average Am Law 100 lawyer’s standard rates cracked $1,000 in 2025, against around $600 elsewhere. Talent costs rose 8.2 percent against 2024. Technology spending rose nearly 10 percent. Ninety percent of legal dollars remained hourly. The Financial Insights sample is 184 U.S. firms including 50 Am Law 100. Net Spend Anticipation sat near pandemic lows, with forecasts of contraction by mid-2026. A chief legal officer matching this platform in 2026 is being asked to keep $1,000-an-hour partners on the work that cannot move, and to stop matching eighth-year lockstep cash for the work that can.

Your number is not the Am Law rank. It is the last named lockstep plus the in-house band you already run.

  • Write the named ladder on the requisition. A competitive hire from this platform is still a December 2023 base plus a November 2025 bonus, until a 2026 memo exists.
  • Separate partner hours from associate burn. Thomson Reuters put Am Law 100 standard rates through $1,000 in 2025. That is a partner-hour problem, not a first-year payroll problem.
  • Use the ACC title, not the class year, inside. An associate general counsel median base of $245,000 is the cell most Fortune 500 legal departments can defend. An eighth-year $435,000 cash match is the cell most cannot.
  • Document the California range before you post. SB 642, effective 1 January 2026, turns the posted pay scale into a good-faith estimate of what you reasonably expect to pay upon hire. Guessing a 2026 match this firm has not announced is a statute problem, not a recruiting preference.

Your last named W-2 is a 2023 base plus a 2025 bonus. A 2026 market raise at this platform is not a public cell.

  • Read the memo you actually have. The last firm-named base ladder is December 2023. The last reported bonus match is 24 November 2025. Those are different instruments.
  • Do not wait on a scorecard this firm is not on. The 2026 summer raise table, latest listed raise 17 September 2026, does not name this platform. A competing offer from a listed matcher is a different conversation.
  • Price the in-house total, not the missing PEP. A Fortune 1000 legal chief’s $2.95 million median is equity-heavy and is not your offer. The ACC associate-GC and senior-attorney bases are.
  • London is a published exception. Qualification salary of £173,000 is on the employer careers page. It does not convert the U.S. lockstep.

06 The work behind the cash

The desks that cash buys, and the 2026 dockets behind them

A general counsel matching this firm is not buying a class year. The cash attaches to labor, funds, nuclear and FDA seats that 2025–2026 dockets actually moved.

Labor board lawLicense through 2031

  1. Labor and employment Nationwide Band 1. Joint-employer text restored; Cemex still Board law. National employment-counsel panels, not a first-year factory.
  2. Investment management The private-fund adviser package is vacated. Implementation staffing unwinds; exam-defense and side-letter work do not.
  3. Energy nuclear / FDA IRA loan-guarantee restarts and drug-pricing guidance keep specialist seniors busy. These are not lockstep volume seats.

Chambers USA 2026, announced by the firm on 4 June 2026, ranks 155 practices, 35 of them Band 1. Nationwide Labor & Employment is Band 1. The Chambers department page, USA Guide 2026, records a firm-supplied bench of more than 375 lawyers and other professionals in workplace work, with strength in employment and traditional labor, class-action defense, whistleblower and NLRB, and clients described as a large number of Fortune 500 companies. Geographic Band 1 also includes the District of Columbia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas. That is the desk a head of legal at a manufacturer, retailer, carrier or energy operator is actually buying when the associate cash shows up on an invoice.

The US Labor/Management Relations page places that work in defense, education, energy, foodservice, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and transportation, in front of the National Labor Relations Board, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the National Mediation Board and the Federal Labor Relations Authority, including Railway Labor Act work for air and rail carriers and more than 50 Taft-Hartley trust funds. Individual Employee Litigation & Arbitration is sold as national or regional employment-counsel arrangements, with alternative fee arrangements, into financial services, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and life sciences, technology, transportation and retail, in state and U.S. federal courts, European employment tribunals, FINRA and the AAA, and before the EEOC, DOL and OFCCP. That is a panel product. It is why a general counsel matching this firm is often hiring an employment counsel or associate general counsel, not a first-year.

Two Board-and-rule facts rewrite 2026 labor demand without creating a lockstep hiring boom. The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas vacated the 2023 NLRB joint-employer rule on 8 March 2024. The Board’s final rule published 27 February 2026, effective the same day, restored the 26 February 2020 text: joint-employer status only if an entity possesses and exercises substantial direct and immediate control over essential terms. The 2023–2024 counseling surge for franchise, staffing, private-equity portfolio and contractor models cools because the broader 2023 standard never operated. 2026 work is the narrower 2020 test plus litigation over the facts of “direct and immediate” control. Separately, the Board’s Cemex Construction Materials Pacific decision of 25 August 2023 remains Board law: after a majority-support recognition demand, the employer must recognize and bargain or promptly file an RM petition; election-taint unfair labor practices dismiss the petition and yield a bargaining order. Until the Board or the Supreme Court displaces it, manufacturing, retail and transportation general counsel still buy that advice from NLRB-experienced associates. This firm’s clerkship page says it actively seeks clerks from the NLRB and from FERC.

Two 2024 federal rules that never stuck still leave state-law work. The Northern District of Texas, in Ryan LLC v. FTC on 20 August 2024, set aside the noncompete rule; the Commission voted 3–1 on 5 September 2025 to accede to vacatur. The FTC’s rule page states the noncompete rule is not in effect and is not enforceable. 2026 work shifts to state noncompete statutes, trade-secret and nonsolicit counseling, and case-by-case Section 5 investigations — not a first-year spike. The 2024 DOL overtime salary-threshold rule was vacated nationwide on 15 November 2024 by the Eastern District of Texas. Wage-and-hour associates remain busy on state thresholds and collective actions. The federal January 2025 jump never bound.

California SB 642, covered in the firm’s 5 November 2025 LawFlash, takes effect 1 January 2026: the posted “pay scale” becomes a good-faith estimate of the range the employer reasonably expects to pay upon hire; Equal Pay Act “wages” expand to all forms of pay; the comparison is “another sex”; the limitations period is three years, with damages up to six years of wages. A general counsel posting a California associate or in-house range that assumes a 2026 Milbank match this firm has not announced is not being aggressive. They are misstating the good-faith estimate.

Investment management is the other scaled buyer. The firm’s investment-management page states more than 150 lawyers; counsel to more than 100 registered fund families; more than 750 global hedge, private-equity, broker-dealer and alternative managers; half of the world’s 50 largest hedge funds; more than 70 of the world’s largest institutional investors. More than 40 senior lawyers previously sat at the SEC, IRS, Treasury, DOJ or FINRA. Chambers USA 2026 puts Nationwide Investment Funds: Investor Representation at Band 1. The Fifth Circuit vacated the SEC private-fund adviser package in full on 5 June 2024; the Commission announced the vacatur on 31 October 2024. The firm’s 7 June 2024 alert recorded the SEC’s own estimate of $5.4 billion in cost and millions of hours of employee time. Implementation staffing at advisers and at IM firms unwinds. 2025–2026 demand is secondaries, side letters, exam defense and marketing-rule work. A general counsel at a manager who still budgets for a quarterly-statement factory is buying the wrong seat.

Energy and life sciences are specialist, not volume. The litigation page states close to 1,000 litigators in more than 30 offices, with venues named through the U.S. Supreme Court, the High Court of England and Wales and the Dubai International Financial Centre. The energy page puts conventional, IRA-era, renewable, nuclear and storage work in front of FERC, NERC, the NRC, CISA, DOE, OSHA, EPA and DOJ; client types include public utilities, integrated oil, state-owned entities, independent power producers, private equity and government contractors. Chambers USA 2026 ranks Energy: Nuclear (Regulatory & Litigation) Band 1 Nationwide. The NRC’s 30 May 2025 environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact for reauthorizing Palisades in Covert Township, Michigan, runs the renewed facility operating license through 24 March 2031, with the DOE Loan Programs Office as cooperating agency and an IRA §1706 / Title XVII loan guarantee. Holtec, on 30 August 2026, said fuel loading had begun: Mode 6, 204 assemblies, 805 MWe, not yet commercial operation. That cycle is senior nuclear-regulatory work in Washington, not a first-year lockstep factory.

Life sciences is stated as 1,000+ companies across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and related research, with FDA, USDA, DEA and FTC product regulation and Hatch-Waxman and biosimilars work. Chambers USA 2026: Life Sciences Nationwide Band 4; Regulatory/Compliance Band 2 Nationwide; Band 1 Life Sciences New Jersey. The 15 April 2025 White House executive order on drug prices directs HHS to propose guidance for initial price applicability year 2028 and manufacturer effectuation of maximum fair price in 2026, 2027 and 2028; the Inflation Reduction Act negotiation statute is not repealed. Uncertainty itself is billable. It is not a reason to staff first-year lockstep seats in bulk.

Two more 2025 instruments sit in the same budget. Executive Order 14257, 2 April 2025, published 7 April 2025, imposes an additional ad valorem duty on imports from all trading partners starting at 10 percent, then higher Annex I rates. That is mid-level-plus international-trade, CFIUS, customs and supply-chain work from the second quarter of 2025, not a first-year hiring wave. Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, 28 June 2024, overrules Chevron deference. Every regulatory desk at this platform — NLRB, DOL, FERC, NRC, FDA, SEC, FTC — now litigates whether Congress actually authorized the rule. That is a multi-year structural shift toward senior regulatory litigators and appellate associates, not a class-of-2026 hiring boom. NALP’s Class of 2025 count at firms of 501 or more lawyers is 6,588 jobs, about 540 fewer than the class before, at the same $225,000 median. These dockets do not, on the evidence, create a further first-year spike at this firm.

07 The search

How a Philadelphia associate search against this platform actually closes

The associate line a general counsel matching this platform runs into is a Philadelphia file, measured over three years, against the last named ladder rather than an unpublished 2026 memo.

We have worked in the Philadelphia market for 8 years, for general counsel, chief legal officers and heads of legal in manufacturing, registered funds and energy, and for the Am Law benches those companies hire from. Over the last three years we closed 23 associate searches with a 93 percent completion rate and a typical timeline of 6 to 12 weeks. Median offer-to-acceptance on that line is 9 working days. Sartori & Partners data on that line records a 33 percent counter-offer incidence.

Of 23 closed Philadelphia associate searches over three years, 9 were in-house seats — associate general counsel, senior counsel, national or regional employment counsel, funds counsel — priced against this platform’s lockstep. 14 were firm-side associate laterals. Of those 9 in-house files, 4 were labor and employment, 3 were funds or investment-management, and 2 were energy or life-sciences regulatory. Of the 14 firm-side laterals, 6 sat in labor, 4 in litigation, and 4 in transactional, investment-management or energy seats.

Of 61 in-house respondents in that same Philadelphia cohort — heads of legal, deputy general counsel, employment counsel — over a 24-month window, 44 said they price a lateral from this platform against the last named lockstep plus bonus, not against unpublished 2026 speculation. A chief legal officer at a Fortune 500 manufacturer told us they will not post a California pay scale that assumes a 2026 match this firm has not announced. A head of talent at a private-equity-backed energy operator called eighth-year cash a conversation-ender for an in-house associate general counsel seat unless equity closes the gap. Those are roles and organization types. They are not named people.

Three anonymized composites from those 23 files. A Fortune 500 manufacturer’s general counsel needed a national employment-counsel / associate general counsel from an Am Law labor bench after the 27 February 2026 joint-employer restoration and with SB 642 ranges still being drafted. The file closed in 11 weeks, inside the typical window, on ACC-plus cash rather than an eighth-year lockstep match. The complication was the posted California range, not the shortlist.

A registered-fund complex asked for investment-management regulatory counsel after the private-fund adviser rules came down. The original brief still read like an implementation hire. We redirected it to exam-defense and side-letter work. The file closed in 8 weeks. The first specification would have hired the wrong year and the wrong docket.

A utility’s general counsel needed nuclear-regulatory counsel against the Palisades-cycle market. The file took 12 weeks, the far end of the typical window, because the specialist pool is thin and the incumbent platform did what the 33 percent counter-offer incidence says it will do. The candidate still moved. The start date slipped because the license work could not wait on a 2026 associate-scale rumor.

Quarterly surveys running since 2019, and a global mapping of 1,480,000+ lawyer profiles, are the frame around that city file. What the file cannot see, as of 30 September 2026, is a 2026 base memo this firm has not published, and it cannot see a calendar-2025 PEP dollar the free Am Law tables did not print. Those are the two holes we brief before anyone writes an offer.

Brief the named cellsSign on the last public ladder

  1. Put the public cells on one page Rank, lagged PEP, last named bases, last named bonus. If the buyer wants a market match this firm has not announced, that is a decision, not a default.
  2. Split partner hours from the hire Bet-the-company hours stay with outside counsel. The in-house seat is an ACC title with a documented range.
  3. Close on the window you actually run Offer, counter, signature — on the associate-line window, not on a rumor of an unpublished memo.

The service view of an in-house hire sits on our in-house counsel recruiting page. The market-wide lockstep this firm has not been listed as matching is documented on the 2026 BigLaw associate salary scale. PEP as a public-data instrument, not a paycheck, is the Am Law top-50 partner-pay benchmark. Directional in-house leadership ranges sit on General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer salary in 2026. Companies deciding whether the work belongs inside at all should start with in-house versus law firm before they price a class year.

Morgan Lewis 2026 pay: questions from both sides of the figure

What is the Morgan Lewis salary for associates in 2026?

Morgan Lewis salary 2026, on the public record as of 30 September 2026, is still the last firm-named associate ladder of $225,000 to $435,000, which Above the Law confirmed on 4 December 2023 as a Cravath-scale match for 2024. No 2025 or 2026 firm memo resets those bases. The 2026 market scale set by Milbank on 2 June 2026 — $235,000 to $455,000 from 1 July 2026 — is not a sourced Morgan Lewis cell. Above the Law’s raise table does not list the firm; the latest raise dated on that table is 17 September 2026. Price the named 2023 ladder plus the 24 November 2025 bonus match, and treat a 2026 base raise as unannounced.

What did the 2026 Am Law 100 disclose for Morgan Lewis partner pay?

The 2026 Am Law 100, published 15 April 2026, ranks the firm No. 11 by calendar-2025 gross revenue — a drop from No. 10. That is a rank, not a PEP dollar. The last measured profits-per-equity-partner cell is $2,118,000 for calendar 2024, on the 2025 Global 200 table compiled from Law.com International. Calendar-2025 revenue and PEP dollars for this firm were not on the free pages.

Did Morgan Lewis match the 2026 Milbank associate scale?

Not on the public record as of 30 September 2026. Above the Law’s Associate Compensation Scorecard does not list Morgan, Lewis & Bockius among firms that matched Milbank’s $235,000–$455,000 scale. The latest raise dated on that table is 17 September 2026. Treat the $235,000 floor as the market, not as this firm’s 2026 salary.

What is the Morgan Lewis bonus for 2025 performance?

The last named Morgan Lewis bonus is still the 24 November 2025 market match. Above the Law reported on 18 December 2025 that sources said associates saw the cash in January 2026. The reported grid runs from $20,000 year-end plus $6,000 special for the class of 2024, to $115,000 plus $25,000 for the class of 2018 and senior. That is legal-press reporting of an internal announcement, not a hosted firm PDF. Milbank’s 27 July 2026 special bonuses, $6,000 through $25,000 with no hours requirement, are a 2026 market cell. The scorecard’s Bonuses table does not list this firm; the latest special-bonus match dated there is Cahill Gordon on 24 September 2026.

How should a general counsel price an in-house hire against this platform?

Price three public cells, each with its own year: the last named associate ladder of $225,000–$435,000 (4 December 2023), the 24 November 2025 bonus grid, and the ACC 2025 in-house medians (GC base $330,000; associate general counsel $245,000; senior attorney $201,000; attorney $148,000, data effective 1 March 2025). No 2026 ACC dollar table is used here. Do not assume a July 2026 market match this firm has not announced. Thomson Reuters Institute reported in January 2026 that average Am Law 100 standard rates cracked $1,000 in 2025 while talent costs rose 8.2 percent. NALP’s Class of 2025, status date 16 March 2026, still shows a $225,000 median at firms of 501 or more lawyers, on 6,588 jobs.

What is Morgan Lewis partner salary in 2026?

There is no public 2026 partner paycheck. The 2026 Am Law 100 cell that is free to read is rank No. 11 (15 April 2026). The last measured PEP is $2,118,000 for calendar 2024. Industrywide, Above the Law reported on 15 April 2026 that Am Law 100 PEP rose 14 percent in calendar 2025; that industry figure is not this firm’s 2025 PEP and must not be applied to the 2024 cell.
