Salary 2026
Nelson Mullins Salary 2026: Associate Scale, Bonus and Partner Pay
The last dated first-year band is 2025: $150,000 to $200,000. The firm has not published a 2026 scale memo. Matching that print now is the cheaper bid for a general counsel; waiting for the next lockstep announcement is the expensive one.
The 2026 window is still priced off a 2025 print.
A New York general counsel matching a Nelson Mullins salary in September 2026 is not waiting on a new scale. Sartori maps roughly 67,000 New York lawyers as a coverage file; the live question is whether to bid the last dated band now, or to wait for a memo this Am Law 60 employer has not published.
ALM’s Daily Report Online, on 8 April 2026, attributed to the firm a 2025 first-year minimum of $150,000, up from $125,000 in 2024, and a $200,000 top-end that did not move. That is the last firm-attributed starting band in the public record. 2025 cash. 2026 decision.
The matching problem in 2026 is the gap between a 2025 band and a lockstep this employer has not said it will follow. The dated table is below.

The 2025 Nelson Mullins salary print — and the 2026 memo that is not there.
Open the table first. Every cell is a 2025 figure. None of it is a 2026 class-year lockstep, and none of it is a bonus.
ALM’s Daily Report Online, on 8 April 2026, is the last dated, firm-attributed cash print. The first-year minimum moved from $125,000 in 2024 to $150,000 in 2025; the top-end starting salary stayed $200,000 in both years. Forty-six first-year associates joined in 2025 against 48 in 2024 — a slight contraction in the incoming class in the year the floor rose $25,000. That is the associate desk a general counsel is matching. It is not the 2026 market lockstep, which this employer has not joined in any public memo.
Partner economics are a separate column. The same article put 2025 net income at $401.24 million, up 9 percent; profits per equity partner at $2.51 million, up 13.1 percent, amid a slight decline in equity-partner count; and average compensation to all partners, equity and nonequity, at $1.11 million, up 8.5 percent. PEP had risen 89 percent in five years from $1.32 million in 2020. The nonequity compensation pool reached $224.79 million, up 18.5 percent, after the firm added almost 25 FTE nonequity partners. A chief legal officer who hears “partner” and budgets PEP is matching an equity ratio against a nonequity or mixed-tier seat.
| Line | 2025 print | Year measured | What it measures | What it is not |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First-year floor | $150,000 | 2025 | Firm-attributed minimum starting base | A 2026 class-year lockstep |
| First-year ceiling | $200,000 | 2025 | Top-end starting base; unchanged from 2024 | The $235,000 market floor |
| Profits per equity partner | $2.51 million | 2025 | ALM PEP, equity partners only | Nonequity or mixed-tier pay |
| All-partner average | $1.11 million | 2025 | Equity and nonequity blended | An individual partner draw |
| Nonequity compensation pool | $224.79 million | 2025 | Pool after almost 25 FTE nonequity additions | Per-partner cash |
| Revenue per lawyer | $1.01 million | 2025 | Gross receipts divided by lawyer FTE | Associate base salary |
Figures: ALM Daily Report Online, 8 April 2026, preliminary 2025 financials. Rank is a different print: the firm’s 15 April 2025 press release stated No. 60 on the 2025 Am Law 100 (2024 financial year) after an 18 percent increase in gross revenue; Daily Report Online on 15 April 2026 reported that the 2026 Am Law 100 print held the same ranking despite 12 percent revenue growth.
NALP’s 2025 Associate Salary Survey, summarized in the June 2025 Bulletin+ as of 1 January 2025, is market context, not this firm’s filing. The overall median first-year base among respondents was $200,000; the median in firms of 701 or more lawyers was $215,000; $225,000 was the most frequently reported first-year figure, at 32 percent of offices overall and 44.7 percent of 701-plus offices. In cities that overlap this firm’s footprint, the share of surveyed offices reporting a $225,000 first-year was 33.3 percent in Atlanta (9 offices), 50 percent in Charlotte (8), 66.7 percent in Houston (12), 66.7 percent in Boston (9), 56.5 percent in New York City (23), 53.6 percent in the Washington DC area (28), 30.8 percent in Miami/West Palm Beach (13), 0 percent in Nashville (6) and 11.1 percent in Raleigh/Durham (9). The firm’s 2025 $150,000–$200,000 band sits at the NALP overall median at its ceiling and $50,000 below that median at its floor. NALP’s 2026–27 Directory of Legal Employers was scheduled to go live late September 2026; no 2026 Nelson Mullins NALP salary form was public when this page was written.
For a general counsel the city cut is the matching tool, not a curiosity. Atlanta, where ALM called this firm’s largest office, still had two-thirds of surveyed NALP offices below $225,000 as of 1 January 2025. Houston, where the 2025–26 partner laterals actually landed, had two-thirds at $225,000. A chief legal officer matching a first-year in Atlanta against a Houston energy associate is not matching the same public distribution, even before this employer’s own 2025 $150,000–$200,000 band is applied. The band does not vary by city in any document this firm has published. The market around it does.
Matching now at the 2025 print is the cheaper bid; waiting for a memo that has not issued is the expensive one.
The paycheck is earned at the firm. The check is written in-house.
The lawyers who earn the 2025 figure sit on three desks inside one employer. The people who fund those desks are general counsel, chief legal officers and heads of legal at the companies that buy the work.
W-2 associate trackPartner economics
- Practice-team associate The 2025 first-year band lives here: established teams, a summer pipeline, an Associates Committee. This is the lockstep-shaped desk, even without a published 2026 lockstep.
- Encompass discovery attorney Law-firm employed, not the first-year band. Dedicated discovery counsel, project-management lawyers and review capacity sitting beside the Attorney category on the employer portal.
- Equity and nonequity partner Two 2026 benefits guides, one PEP print, one blended average. Origination and a 360-day integration, not a class year, decide this desk.
The primary employer of who earns the figure is Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP: more than 1,000 attorneys, policy advisors and e-discovery professionals on the careers and firm pages accessed in 2026, ranked 60 on the 2025 Am Law 100, with a benefits hub that splits W-2 attorneys from Equity and Non-Equity partners. Entry-level pages put new associates onto established practice teams. The lateral-partners page sells a 360-day integration aimed at client relationships. A nationwide 2027 2L Summer Associate posting is live on the employer portal. That is the payroll. It is not an in-house legal department.
Encompass is a second desk and must not be blended with the 2025 first-year band. The e-discovery service page describes dedicated discovery attorneys, project-management lawyers and team leads, with review centers in South Carolina, Tennessee and Washington, DC, and scalable capacity the firm states as 300 to 1,200-plus seats. Government-relations attorneys and policy advisors are a third desk: Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Washington, D.C., on predictable fixed and monthly retainers, serving emerging-growth companies, foreign sovereigns, Fortune 50 companies, associations, universities and state and local governments. A general counsel matching “a Nelson Mullins lawyer” has to name which of those three desks is in scope.
Who writes the check is the in-house reader this page is for. The litigation page describes national and regional counsel to pharmaceutical, medical-device, automobile, chemical, consumer-products and hotel clients, including Fortune 50 and regulated-industry buyers. The products-liability page, accessed in 2026, claims more than 150 products lawyers and names Fortune 500 pharma and device companies and some of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers as the client type. Encompass pages describe enterprise e-discovery counsel for a Fortune 50 company, discovery counsel for 16 defendants in a health-insurance antitrust MDL, discovery counsel for 13 companies in a cyberattack MDL with concurrent congressional inquiries, and DOJ Hart-Scott-Rodino Second Request work. ALM on 8 April 2026 named the firm’s litigation practice as counsel for defendants in Roundup and talcum-powder class actions. Those are manufacturer general counsel budgets, not an in-house products team at the firm.
Corporate work sells a different buyer. The Corporate & Securities page describes more than 200 corporate attorneys working with PE and VC funds, emerging-growth companies and public and private issuers, and states that the group works closely with in-house counsel, often serving as outside general counsel. The General Counsel Services page, accessed in 2026, names four buyer types: a company with no in-house counsel; a first general counsel standing up a function; a seasoned general counsel with a team; and a solo in-house counsel. A Chicago emerging-companies partner arrived 11 March 2026 to sit as outside general counsel through formation, financing and exit. The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, which the firm’s culture page records as more than 200 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners, is the room in which that buyer already sits.
Employment is a fourth buyer set with a dated 2026 hire behind it. The Employment & Labor page, accessed in 2026, claims more than 55 attorneys in labor, employment, benefits and immigration, appearing before the NLRB, the EEOC, OFCCP, OSHA, federal and state courts and arbitrators, under statutes including the FLSA, Title VII, the ADEA, the FMLA, the ADA and the NLRA. Clients are public and private employers in manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, devices, financial services, construction, real estate, utilities, restaurant and retail, and colleges and universities — some with large in-house HR and labor teams, some with none. The March 2026 Houston employment partner is the live demand signal on that label: trade secrets, restrictive covenants, discrimination, M&A employment, and US employment for international clients in energy, biopharma and technology. A head of legal matching that seat is not matching a first-year band. She is matching a partner desk that sits next to her own HR function.
| In-house buyer | The desk they buy | Who they pay | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fortune 50 / 200 manufacturer GC | National counsel and products / MDL | Litigation partners, products associates, Encompass review | Litigation and products pages; ALM 8 April 2026 defendant work |
| PE / VC fund and portfolio CLO | Outside general counsel and deal execution | Corporate associates and emerging-companies partners | Corporate & Securities and General Counsel Services pages, accessed 2026 |
| CMBS / institutional lender legal | Real-estate finance and servicing | Capital-markets partners and midlevel associates | August 2026 New York and Dallas partner laterals; 2026 partner class |
| European parent GC (US FDI) | US employment, energy corporate, arbitration | Houston partner seats and supporting associates | Firm Houston laterals, February 2025 to April 2026 |
| Sovereign / association / university | Government relations retainers | GR attorneys and policy advisors, not lockstep associates | Government Relations page: fixed and monthly retainers |
A general counsel matching partner pay has to name the tier.
2025 moved partner economics. It also widened the gap between the equity ratio and the blended average a nonequity seat actually clears.
Profits per equity partner is not the partner paycheck a general counsel actually matches. ALM on 8 April 2026 printed $2.51 million PEP against a $1.11 million all-partner average — more than double. The nonequity pool grew faster than either ratio. Almost 25 FTE nonequity partners were added in 2025. The 2026 benefits hub still publishes separate guides for Equity and Non-Equity partners. Specify the tier, or the match is a category error.
Eighteen attorneys were promoted to the partnership effective 1 January 2026, from 11 offices across eight states, the firm announced on 17 December 2025. Practice labels on those seats, without names, run through real-estate and CMBS lending, gaming regulatory, white collar and congressional oversight, products (devices, pharmaceuticals, chemicals), commercial real estate, M&A and project finance, franchise and financial-services litigation, PE portfolio M&A, institutional real-estate lending, class actions, affordable housing, and products/MDL/appeals. That is an up-from-associate path still operating. It is not a published cash number for those 18.
The 2025–26 lateral pattern is partner-weighted, which is the hiring consequence Citi’s 11 December 2025 Hildebrandt advisory flagged for 2026: firms planning to broaden mix via laterals after a slow transactional market, with Gen AI affecting leverage models rather than freezing first-year hiring. Houston took energy corporate, international arbitration, employment, commercial real-estate litigation and franchise/distribution regulatory partners between February 2025 and April 2026, each from another law-firm tier — global Am Law 20, Am Law 50, Am Law 100, Am Law 200, a large Texas firm, a Houston boutique. Dallas added a CMBS and servicing partner on 3 August 2026. New York added a commercial real-estate finance partner on 26 August 2026. Chicago added an emerging-companies partner on 11 March 2026. A general counsel matching those seats is matching origination into a named practice, not a class year.
Profits per equity partner is not the partner paycheck a general counsel actually matches.
Three cycles employ these seats. Only one of them is a pay memo.
The 2026 bid window is a talent-cost event sitting on top of products inventory, a CRE/CMBS rebound, and an HSR discovery load that spiked, eased, then shifted again.
Inventory shrinkingOrigination hiring
- Products / MDL wind-down Failure-to-warn theories narrowed; settlement administration and other products theories remain. National-counsel associates and Encompass review move with the docket, not with a scale memo.
- HSR and cyber discovery Form shock, vacatur, then targeted Second Requests. This is the Encompass desk and dedicated discovery counsel, not the 2025 first-year band.
- CRE / CMBS origination The cycle that is actually hiring real-estate finance partners in Dallas and New York in August 2026, with midlevel associates behind them.
The talent-cost cycle is the one a general counsel feels first. Daily Report Online, on 15 May 2026, reported Citi’s Q1 2026 finding that Southeast firms — Miami to Virginia, the geography of a South Carolina–founded Am Law 60 whose largest office ALM called Atlanta — were beating national demand and revenue while compensation and operating costs rose faster than the national average. On 3 September 2026 the same publication, citing Citi on the first half of 2026, reported Southeast revenue up 12.7 percent versus 2025 across 24 mostly Am Law 200 firms, with expenses “slightly higher than nationwide baseline as firms in the region ‘pay up to protect their talent.’” That line is the buyer’s cost of waiting. It is not a published raise at this employer.
Products inventory is moving the other way on failure-to-warn. The Supreme Court, in Monsanto Co. v. Durnell, No. 24-1068, decided 25 June 2026, held 7–2 that FIFRA §136v(b) expressly preempts a state-law failure-to-warn claim that would require a cancer warning on an EPA-approved Roundup label. Bayer / Monsanto on 17 February 2026 proposed a nationwide class to resolve current and future Roundup NHL claims, with declining capped annual payments for up to 21 years totaling up to $7.25 billion; Reuters the same day put remaining plaintiffs at about 65,000. A Missouri state judge granted preliminary approval on 4 March 2026. This page does not assert that Nelson Mullins is counsel of record on Durnell or on the Missouri class. It does record, via ALM, that the firm’s litigation practice has represented Roundup and talc defendants, and that a 150-plus products bench is the desk a manufacturer general counsel is still staffing — other theories, settlement administration if a class holds, and non-Roundup products in devices, auto and chemicals.
Johnson & Johnson’s Exhibit 99.1, filed with the SEC on 27 July 2026, proposed a $5.5 billion resolution of remaining ovarian talc claims, conditioned on 95 percent participation, following a 22 July 2026 MDL court order directing plaintiffs to show why remaining claims should not be dismissed for inability to prove specific causation. About 76,000 ovarian claims remained. A settlement that sticks removes trial-associate demand; holdouts keep it. Encompass review on wind-down productions is the adjacent desk.
The HSR cycle is a discovery-attorney story. The expanded Hart-Scott-Rodino form took effect 10 February 2025. The Eastern District of Texas vacated it on 12 February 2026; the Fifth Circuit’s 19 March 2026 denial of a stay pending appeal made vacatur effective immediately, and the agencies returned to the pre-10 February 2025 form. The Department of Justice, on 23 July 2026, said the Antitrust Division had returned to targeted Second Request investigations and published a model timing agreement. Encompass pages already sell discovery counsel for DOJ Second Requests. Full-compliance dumps become optional on DOJ matters; that is partner and project-management work, not first-year lockstep.
Commercial real estate is the cycle that is hiring now. The Mortgage Bankers Association, on 28 April 2026, put 2025 CRE mortgage borrowing and lending at $706 billion, up 40 percent from $505 billion in 2024. Trepp / CRE Direct, on 20 January 2026, put 2025 private-label CMBS issuance at $125.6 billion, up 21 percent. The MBA’s 9 February 2026 forecast called for originations of $805.5 billion in 2026. The firm’s 3 August 2026 Dallas CMBS partner, 26 August 2026 New York CRE finance partner, and 1 January 2026 partner-class seats in Atlanta, Boca Raton, Miami, New York and Orlando affordable housing sit on that origination year. A general counsel at a life insurer, debt fund or developer matching those seats is matching 2026 demand, not a 2025 first-year band.
Geography is filling, not expanding. ALM on 8 April 2026 recorded 2025 as the first year since 2021 with no new office, after eight openings in three years — five in the Midwest, plus Texas, Virginia and California. The 2026 plan, as the same article stated it, is growing the newest offices and increasing headcount in the three highest-performing practice areas, which the public lede did not name. Texas is the measured fill: the firm has added a total of almost 100 lawyers in five years across its two Texas offices, ALM reported, attributing that figure to the firm. Los Angeles Downtown debuted in August 2024 as a trial office for high-value commercial, products, consumer class actions, toxic torts, privacy, false advertising, greenwashing and premises work, and as national and regional trial counsel to Fortune 200 clients. The 2027 2L summer list on the employer portal includes that office. A general counsel matching a California products or trial seat is matching a two-year-old office under a fill mandate, not a 2026 de novo opening, and California SB 642 is the statute that will put a range on the ad if the firm posts one.
Bid the print. Do not bid the rumor of a memo.
Pay-transparency statutes, attested visa wages and a scorecard that does not list this firm are the three public instruments a general counsel can actually use before year-end.
Matching now at the 2025 print is the cheaper bid; waiting for a memo that has not issued is the expensive one. Ice Miller and McKool Smith delayed their market matches to 1 January 2027, which is the calendar proof that some 2026 raises are still landing next year. This employer has not said it is in that queue. A chief legal officer who holds a requisition open for a memo that may arrive in 2027 is paying delay against a 2025 band that is already in ALM.
When the firm advertises an Associate or Partner seat in New York, New York City, Colorado or California, a range has to travel with the posting. New York Labor Law §194-b requires employers with four or more employees to list compensation ranges on job, promotion and transfer ads. The New York City Human Rights Law salary-transparency rule has applied to ads for work performed in the city since 1 November 2022. Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act requires compensation in all internal and public postings; the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment table, updated 4 September 2026, recorded 2,984 transparency complaints since 1 January 2021 and $841,500 in citation fines. California SB 642, chaptered 8 October 2025, amending Labor Code §432.3, defines “pay scale” as a good-faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage range the employer reasonably expects to pay upon hire, effective 1 January 2026 for covered employers. The firm lists New York, Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego and Torrance. Firm-owned careers pages still do not publish a 2026 associate scale. The statutes apply when the ads do.
Department of Labor OFLC LCA disclosures, compiled in April 2026 with DOL case numbers, are attested wages for a title and worksite — the higher of actual wage or prevailing wage — not a scale and not a bonus. Certified 2025 attorney-title cases included Associate Attorney I-200-25182-144140 at $226,200 in New York, filed 1 July 2025; Associate I-200-25246-283329 at $230,000 in New York, filed 3 September 2025; Corporate Associate I-200-25216-218803 at $204,194 in Atlanta, filed 4 August 2025; and Associate I-200-25311-387737 at $185,000 in Washington, DC, filed 7 November 2025. The Plano Associate I-200-25225-238949 at $83,554, filed 13 August 2025, is prevailing-wage territory and is not the Texas associate scale. Five attorney-relevant 2025 filings are not an average. They are the public wages a New York or Atlanta general counsel can put next to the 2025 $150,000–$200,000 band without pretending they are a 2026 lockstep.
2025 first-year minimum
Firm-attributed floor, up from $125,000 in 2024.
ALM Daily Report Online, 8 April 2026 ↗You are matching a lawyer onto a company payroll, or briefing the same number as outside-counsel cost. The firm is the seller, not the buyer.
- Name the desk. Practice-team associate, Encompass discovery, government-relations, nonequity partner, or equity partner. Blending them produces a number no one at the firm is paid.
- Price the 2025 print. First-year $150,000 to $200,000; blended partner $1.11 million unless the seat is equity, in which case PEP is the ratio, not the offer.
- Read the posting statute. New York, Colorado and California force a range onto the ad. If the ad has no range, you are not yet looking at a 2026 public number.
- Do not wait for a memo. Southeast firms are already paying up to protect talent, Citi told Daily Report Online on 3 September 2026. A requisition held for a scale announcement this employer has not made is a delay cost, not a negotiation tactic.
- Run it as an in-house search. Our in-house counsel recruiting desk is the company-side process; the general counsel salary 2026 benchmark is what the person writing this check earns.
You earn the figure. The public record still does not give you a 2026 class-year step or a bonus grid.
- Quote the 2025 band, not a lockstep you do not have. A first-year comparing this employer to the $235,000 floor is comparing two different public instruments.
- Ask equity or nonequity in writing. Separate 2026 benefits guides exist. PEP is not your nonequity draw.
- The summer pipeline is open for 2027. A nationwide 2L posting is on the employer portal; the Dick Riley Scholarship still gates an ABA-accredited JD and an eight-week summer. That is the associate path, not a published dollar table.
- Partner laterals are being hired for books. Energy, arbitration, CMBS, emerging companies, employment, franchise/distribution, CRE disputes. A 360-day integration is the firm’s own pitch. Class year is not.
- Explore without circulating a name. Our associate guidance and associate recruiting desk work the New York associate line this page is built on.
The New York associate desk, and the two files waiting cost us.
We have worked the New York market since 2017, for general counsel and for law-firm hiring committees. Over the trailing three years we closed 33 associate searches at a 93 percent completion rate, on a typical 6 to 12 week timeline.
Sartori maps New York as a coverage file, not as an average salary. That mapping records admission, employer and practice. It does not record which associates at this firm sit on the 2025 band versus an unpublished intra-year adjustment, and that is the largest blind spot in the file: a memo that never becomes public is a raise we cannot see.
Counter-offers are not a rounding error on this line. 37 percent of Counter-offers are not a rounding error on this line. 37 percent of closed New York associate files drew one. The median clock from offer to signature, 11 working days, is short enough that a stay bonus which arrives on day eight will still find the candidate inside the window. A general counsel who has not decided, before the first offer, whether she will meet a stay and on what cash, is deciding it under a deadline the origin firm already knows how to use. We have been in this market since 2017. That does not make the counter-offer cheaper. It makes it predictable.
From the same New York interview cohort, 214 conversations over a 24-month window were with general counsel and heads of legal at companies that retain Southeast Am Law firms. 130 of those 214 said they would match Southeast Am Law firms. 130 of those 214 said they would match a 2025 first-year band rather than wait for a 2026 memo the origin firm had not issued. Sartori’s 2026 second-quarter survey wave, drawn from that cohort, recorded 47 of 82 New York heads of legal who would not budget a lockstep first-year number for a firm that had not published a match.
Mandate telemetry is a smaller unit. Of 33 closed New York associate searches over three years, 12 were in-house matches of Am Law 50–100 associates, years 3 to 6, onto a company payroll. 8 of those 12 closed inside the 6 to 12 week band. 4 ran past 12 weeks. 2 of those four were lost when the Mandate telemetry is a smaller unit. Of 33 closed New York associate searches over three years, 12 were in-house matches of Am Law 50–100 associates, years 3 to 6, onto a company payroll. 8 of those 12 closed inside the 6 to 12 week band. 4 ran past 12 weeks. 2 of those four were lost when the candidate took a competing in-house seat at the 2025 band while the company waited for a scale memo that never arrived. Those two losses are the only uncompleted files in the 33. Counter-offer incidence on this associate line is 37 percent. Median offer-to-acceptance is 11 working days. We now brief the wait-for-memo risk in the first conversation rather than in the fourth, because the telemetry is unambiguous and unflattering: delay, not shortlist quality, is what opened the only gaps in an otherwise 93 percent book.
A general counsel at a Fortune 200 medical-device manufacturer put the matching problem in operational terms: she will not budget a 2026 lockstep number this firm has not printed, and she will not hold a products-associate requisition open across a board quarter for a memo the origin firm has not dated. We closed that seat in 9 weeks at a base inside the origin firm’s 2025 print. A stay that seat in 9 weeks at a base inside the origin firm’s 2025 print. A stay bonus arrived, consistent with the 37 percent counter-offer incidence on this line; signature took 11 working days.
A second composite, on the partner desk: a chief legal officer at a European energy parent’s US subsidiary opened on PEP and closed on the blended average. The seat was Houston employment for a US workforce sitting under a European parent GC — the buyer type the firm’s own February 2025 and March 2026 Houston laterals describe. 11 weeks, in-house, nonequity-adjacent cash Houston laterals describe. 11 weeks, in-house, nonequity-adjacent cash against the $1.11 million print rather than the $2.51 million ratio. The uncomfortable parallel is that we had run a firm-side process for the same client the year before that stalled when the company would not name equity versus nonequity in the brief. The second search only moved once the tier was written down.
Hold for a memoMatch the last dated print
- The requisition Name the desk, the tier and the 2025 cell you are actually matching. A brief that says “partner” or “market” is not yet a brief.
- The counter-offer Stay bonuses arrive on this associate line. Decide in advance whether you will meet one, and on what clock, before the first offer goes out.
- The signature Offer-to-acceptance on this desk is a short window. The files that ran long were not slow signatures. They were companies still waiting for a document that had not been written.
Nelson Mullins compensation: questions from both sides of the check
What is the Nelson Mullins salary for first-year associates in 2026?
The firm has not published a 2026 associate scale; the last dated first-year band is 2025, $150,000 to $200,000, per ALM’s Daily Report Online on 8 April 2026. Above the Law’s 2026 raise scorecard does not list Nelson Mullins. Its latest raise row is Troutman Pepper Locke on 17 September 2026, so this firm is not recorded as matching the $235,000 first-year floor that took effect 1 July 2026. A general counsel matching this seat now is pricing a 2025 print, not a lockstep this firm has not joined. No class-year steps between first and eighth year are public for this employer. As of 30 September 2026, no newer firm-attributed first-year band has been published in the sources checked for this page.
What does a Nelson Mullins partner earn, and is PEP the number to match?
ALM’s 8 April 2026 preliminary print put 2025 profits per equity partner at $2.51 million and average compensation to all partners — equity and nonequity — at $1.11 million. PEP is an equity-only ratio, not a paycheck. The same article recorded a nonequity compensation pool of $224.79 million after almost 25 FTE nonequity partners were added in 2025. A general counsel matching a nonequity or mixed-tier seat who budgets PEP is pricing the wrong desk. The 2026 benefits hub splits Equity, Non-Equity and W-2 attorney guides; it still does not print cash.
Did this firm match the 2026 Milbank associate scale?
Publicly, no. Above the Law’s 2026 summer scorecard, originally 5 June 2026, omits Nelson Mullins from both the raises table and the special-bonus table. Its latest raise row is Troutman Pepper Locke on 17 September 2026. Milbank announced $10,000–$20,000 class-year lifts effective 1 July 2026; Bloomberg Law on 17 June 2026 recorded a $235,000 first-year / $455,000 eighth-year lockstep that more than a dozen firms had adopted within two weeks. Absence from a scorecard is not a denial. It is the public-memo record as that scorecard stood on 30 September 2026.
What bonus does a Nelson Mullins associate receive in 2026?
None that is public: no 2026 bonus grid, special-bonus memo or hours threshold for this firm has been published. Treat cash bonus as unpublished, not as the market year-end scale a sibling page tracks. The firm’s 2026 benefits guides cover equity partners, nonequity partners and W-2 attorneys and still carry no salary or bonus table. A candidate who quotes a collections-based bonus from a forum is quoting anecdote; this page does not.
How should a general counsel match this associate or partner seat in 2026?
Price the 2025 $150,000–$200,000 first-year band and the $1.11 million blended partner average, not PEP. Then add the premium the specific desk actually commands — products, CMBS, energy employment, Encompass discovery — rather than the $235,000 lockstep floor or the $2.51 million equity ratio. Sartori’s New York associate desk closed 33 searches over three years at a 93 percent completion rate, in a typical 6 to 12 weeks, with a median 11 working days from offer to signature. A Fortune 200 medical-device general counsel hired a products associate in 9 weeks. Waiting for a 2026 memo this firm has not issued is the delay cost; Southeast firms, Citi told Daily Report Online on 3 September 2026, are already paying up to protect talent.
Who actually pays a Nelson Mullins associate or partner?
In-house legal departments: general counsel at Fortune 50 and Fortune 200 manufacturers, plus PE and VC funds. Pharmaceutical, device, auto and chemical GCs fund the products and national-counsel desks; CMBS lenders, European parent GCs and, on government relations, sovereigns and public bodies fund the rest. The firm’s own litigation, products, corporate, Encompass and government-relations pages, accessed in 2026, describe those buyers. The in-house reader on this page is the chief legal officer matching that associate or partner onto a company payroll, or briefing the same number as outside-counsel cost, not a large in-house hiring wave inside the firm.
ALM prints, firm memos, statutes, and the New York research program.
Associate and partner cash cells come from ALM's 8 April 2026 preliminary print. The 2026 lockstep this firm has not joined comes from the Milbank announcement and the Above the Law scorecard. Demand cycles come from the Supreme Court, the SEC, the FTC, the Department of Justice and the Mortgage Bankers Association. Sartori figures come from the New York associate program.

ALM 2025 financials are preliminary as of 8 April 2026. The 2025 first-year band is firm-attributed via ALM, not a class-year lockstep and not 2026. LCA wages are attested for a named title and worksite and are not a firm-wide mean; the Plano $83,554 line is prevailing wage. NALP city shares are office-level survey responses, not this firm's filing. Citi Southeast H1 2026 figures are from the Daily Report Online lede and bullets of 3 September 2026. Firm-claimed headcounts (products, employment, Encompass seats) are as published on service pages accessed in 2026. Roundup and talc citations describe the inventory those desks work; they do not assert this firm is counsel in Durnell or in any named MDL.
Our own numbers — the New York interview cohort, the 33 closed associate searches, the 37 percent counter-offer incidence and the 11-day offer-to-acceptance window — come from the continuous research program described on our research page, which sets out the cohorts, the survey waves and the mapping coverage behind every Sartori figure quoted above.
