Norton Rose Fulbright Salary 2026: two payrolls, one brand.

On 30 June 2026 the US member matched a class-year lockstep of $235,000 to $455,000, effective 1 July. London newly qualified solicitors sit at £140,000 from 1 April. This page is for the lawyer who earns those figures and the general counsel who has to match them.

A general counsel matching Norton Rose Fulbright salary in 2026 is not matching a verein average. On 1 July 2026 the US member pays associates $235,000 to $455,000 on a 1,900-hour gate; on 1 April 2026 the UK member pays London newly qualified solicitors £140,000. Sartori maps about 30,000 lawyers in London. Coverage is not the constraint. Knowing which payroll writes the check is.

02 The 2026 cash

The 2026 Norton Rose Fulbright salary is two published tables.

The US member matched a class-year lockstep on 30 June 2026. The UK member moved London newly qualified base on 1 April. They are not the same check, and the interior US rungs are this firm's printed grid, not the market-wide ladder.

Kathryn Rubino at Above the Law, on 1 July 2026, reported that Norton Rose Fulbright had matched the new Milbank salary scale, effective 1 July 2026, and printed the class-year grid for associates billing 1,900 hours. Staci Zaretsky’s 2026 summer scorecard dates the match at 30 June 2026, with Class of 2026 and Class of 2025 at $235,000 and Class of 2018 at $455,000. Milbank had moved first on 2 June 2026, as the same publication recorded that day. The market-wide class-year table lives on the national scale piece. What follows is what this firm printed.

The distinctive fact on the NRF grid is the interior. Class of 2026 and Class of 2025 both sit at $235,000. Class of 2024 sits at $245,000, Class of 2023 at $270,000, Class of 2022 at $320,000, Class of 2021 at $385,000, Class of 2020 at $410,000, Class of 2019 at $440,000, Class of 2018 at $455,000. A general counsel who pastes the market setter’s second-year rung onto a Class of 2025 NRF CV is already off the published number. Two payrolls. One brand.

Class of 2018 Senior associate $455,000 1,900 hours

The US member’s law-student FAQ, accessed 11 September 2026, states that a US summer associate is paid $4,519 a week, described as the annualized salary for a first-year associate. Associates who achieve 1,900 client hours are eligible for a productivity bonus; up to 50 hours of Firm Investment Time count toward that threshold. Partners are full equity partners with voting rights. Associates are generally considered for partnership after eight years. That is the employer’s own gate language, not a bonus dollar memo.

London is a different payroll. The UK training-contract page, accessed 11 September 2026, publishes first-year trainee £56,000, second-year £61,000, and on qualification £140,000, with up to 50 training contracts a year across March and September intakes and compulsory Corporate and Banking seats. Legal Cheek, on 6 May 2026, dated that NQ lift from 1 April 2026, just under 4 percent on the prior £135,000, with trainees staying level. RollOnFriday, on 8 May 2026, recorded the same 4 percent move and the firm’s refusal to confirm Newcastle NQ or any salary details for associates other than London NQs. Law360, on 6 May 2026, printed £140,000 as $190,284. The Bank of England daily sterling spot on 10 September 2026 was £1 = $1.3531, which converts the same £140,000 at $189,434. Those are announcement-day and snapshot spots, not payroll foreign exchange.

The London NQ series is short and dated. Legal Cheek, on 14 February 2025, put London NQ at £135,000 from 1 April 2025, up from a 2024-vintage £120,000. Trainee bases on that 2025 card were still £50,000 and £55,000; they now sit at the £56,000 / £61,000 the careers page publishes. The solicitor-apprenticeship page, accessed 11 September 2026, starts the six-year London program at £30,000 and states that the NQ salary is £140,000. School-leaver cash feeds the same London qualification, not the US lockstep.

London newly qualified base, sterling, as the legal press and the employer page dated it. The 2026 lift is the live published NQ, not a UK post-qualification ladder.

03 Who writes the check

The Verein coordinates the brand. Member firms pay the lawyer.

A general counsel matching this figure is bidding against a member-firm scale, not a single global lockstep. The US associate, the London NQ, and the company's own in-house seat are three different payrolls.

Who writes the checkWho the general counsel actually matches

  1. US member lockstep Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP pays the class-year base. A Texas or New York in-house hire is matching that member, not London sterling.
  2. UK / EMEAPAC NQ Norton Rose Fulbright LLP pays the London qualification. Australia sits in the same integrated EMEAPAC pool from July 2025; its graduate dollars are not published.
  3. Company payroll The general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal who hires the same lawyer in-house matches the local published table, or keeps the work on panel.

The firm’s about page, accessed 11 September 2026, states more than 3,000 lawyers in 50 cities, and that Norton Rose Fulbright Verein, a Swiss verein, helps coordinate the activities of members but does not itself provide legal services to clients. Bloomberg Law, on 23 February 2026, recorded that as a Swiss verein, regional offices are financially independent, and that the managing partners overseeing those arms form the global management committee. The Verein does not write the check.

In that London cohort, 47 of 61 general counsel, chief legal officers and heads of legal at banks, insurers, energy groups and data-center sponsors, over a 24-month window, told Sartori they keep two NRF figures on the desk — the US class-year base and the London NQ — and they do not use profits per equity partner to price an associate. A head of legal at a Texas energy-infrastructure sponsor put the mismatch in one line: if you show me £140,000, I am not in the market for that seat.

The US entry pipeline is the summer class. The same US FAQ says the member typically fills entry-level associate needs through the Summer Associate Program, requires an ABA-accredited US law school, and generally considers associates for partnership after eight years. Patents and IP Disputes add a USPTO registration exam; Brands and Technology Transactions do not. The UK pipeline is a four-seat training contract under the Solicitors Regulation Authority SQE route, current as of August 2025: degree or equivalent, SQE1 and SQE2, two years’ qualifying work experience. UK graduate FAQs, accessed 11 September 2026, put 45 to 50 trainees a year via two intakes, with visa sponsorship for the London training contract only. The Legal Cheek firm profile, accessed the same day, records a 17 percent overseas-secondment rate and a 22 percent client-secondment rate from the 2026-27 Trainee and Junior Lawyer Survey of more than 2,000 UK trainees and junior associates. The secondee stays on the firm’s payroll. The host general counsel is not paying the NQ that year.

Who pays which 2026 seat. Cash figures are the published bases already dated above; PEP is a 2025 average, not a lockstep draw. Australia, Canada and UK post-qualification bands are omitted because they are not public.

One internal legal seat on the US member’s own payroll is priced as a company job, not as lockstep. The Workday posting “Compliance Lawyer,” identifier R-4262, datePosted 19 August 2026, hiringOrganization Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP (Non-partners), carries a pay-transparency band for California, Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, New York and Washington, DC of $135,000 to $165,000 base, bonus non-guaranteed. The team sits under a Deputy General Counsel. The work is conflicts and Global Practice Standards. A chief legal officer who treats that band as the associate lockstep is reading the wrong requisition.

Four company-side numbers on one axis, in thousands of US dollars. The Office of GC / compliance band is the US member's own internal legal seat. The London NQ is Law360's 6 May 2026 conversion. The US first-year is the 1 July 2026 lockstep floor. Click a marker.

04 What funds the payroll

The 2026 cash sits on dated files, not on a busy-market slogan.

Calendar-2025 economics pay the 2026 tables. The US lockstep is a talent-market match funded by the US pool. The London NQ sits on a separate EMEAPAC profit pool after the July 2025 Australia combination.

Bloomberg Law, on 23 February 2026, reported more than $2.8 billion in gross revenue for 2025, a 16 percent increase, with profits per equity partner up 27 percent to nearly $2.1 million. US revenue rose more than 23 percent to $1.2 billion, and US PEP spiked by nearly 32 percent. The firm’s own June 2026 release on the Bloomberg Law Leading Law Firms list stated global revenue of US$2.8 billion, an increase of more than 15 percent. Point Blank, on 23 February 2026, restated US PEP at $2.7 million. The $2.0 million versus nearly $2.1 million global PEP print across outlets is a rounding split, not two years.

That US pool is what funds the 1 July lockstep. NALP’s 2025 US Associate Salary Survey, released 28 May 2025 and taken as of 1 January 2025, put the median first-year base at $200,000, $215,000 in firms of more than 700 lawyers, and $225,000 city medians in Austin, Boston, Houston, New York City, San Francisco and the Washington, DC area. Those city medians describe the pre-July-2026 floor. They are not an NRF row. The 30 June match is a talent-market event paid from the 2025 US pool, not a London PEP event.

The London-side pool is EMEAPAC. Global Legal Post, on 22 July 2026, reported EMEAPAC turnover up 25 percent to £763.5 million after the 1 July 2025 Australia combination, with like-for-like legacy EMEA revenue up 12 percent to £681 million and UK revenue, the largest part of the legacy business, up 17 percent. The firm’s June 2025 combination announcement described a combined US$1 billion business with over 1,800 lawyers, including over 400 partners, across 28 offices, and stated that other member firms, including the US, were not impacted. The South Africa Verein relationship ended 31 March 2026; Global Legal Post, on 11 December 2025, banded that practice at 120 lawyers. Casablanca remains the EMEAPAC African location on that later write-up. It is a subtraction of on-ground capacity, not a US scale event.

Prior-year census, for the series only: the firm’s Market recognitions page records American Lawyer Am Law 100 20th with 2024 gross revenue of US$2.436 billion. The Internet Legal Research Group 2025 profile, in the NLJ-style headcount table, puts 3,290 attorneys at the firm. Those are 2024-fiscal facts. They describe last year’s platform, not this year’s lockstep.

Work that arrivedPayroll that followed

  1. Capital and grid Texas data-center ground leases and interconnection files created US projects, real-estate and energy seats the lockstep now prices.
  2. Deals and disputes Global M&A, a Solvency II insurer close, a state-AG contingency and a CAT opt-out filled corporate, insurance-regulatory and disputes benches in both members.
  3. Talent-market match The US member matched the 2026 summer scale from the US pool. The UK member had already moved London NQ in April, on a City cycle.

Reuters, on 21 January 2025, reported the White House Stargate announcement of up to $500 billion of private AI infrastructure, with $100 billion committed for immediate deployment and first data centers already under construction in Texas. Bloomberg Law, in the 23 February 2026 results piece, recorded the firm negotiating the Crusoe Energy Systems ground lease for that Texas site, and the US managing partner calling data centers a “big play.” The firm stood up a dedicated US data-center and digital infrastructure group in March 2026, bundling real estate, project finance, deal finance, corporate, environmental, energy, land use, regulatory and technology, and naming FERC and ERCOT interconnection as chokepoints, with more than 150 lawyers on the global data-center service page.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, on 18 June 2026, issued tailored show-cause orders under Section 206 of the Federal Power Act to PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO-NE and NYISO. Sixty days to justify existing tariffs or file large-load changes; thirty days for a resource-adequacy informational report. ERCOT is outside those six orders. The same day, ERCOT’s batch-connection note recorded more than 438,000 MW of new large-user connection requests as of mid-2026, nearly 90 percent from data centers, with the Public Utility Commission of Texas approving the rules on 18 June 2026 and Batch Zero technical studies due 10 July 2026. A Houston or Dallas general counsel hiring a projects associate into that file is matching the US lockstep, not the London NQ.

Reuters, on 7 January 2026, citing LSEG, put 2025 global announced M&A at $4.6 trillion, up 49 percent, with 68 mega-deals of $10 billion or more. Ageas UK, on 14 April 2025, agreed to acquire esure from Bain Capital for £1.295 billion, with Norton Rose Fulbright LLP as regulatory adviser, and completed on 29 September 2025 after full regulatory approval. The Office of the Attorney General of Texas announced a $1.375 billion Google privacy settlement in principle on 9 May 2025, signed 31 October 2025, thanking the firm as outside counsel; Bloomberg Law later recorded $156.5 million billed on public documents. Brick Court Chambers, on 12 June 2026, summarized Consumers’ Association v Qualcomm [2026] CAT 50: opt-out collective proceedings under section 47B of the Competition Act 1998, a £480 million claim, trial in October–November 2025, drop-hands settlement approved 10 June 2026, the firm instructed alongside co-counsel. Those are completed mandates. They explain which desks were busy enough to promote.

2026 partner class by practice label, from the firm's December 2025 promotions release, effective 1 January 2026. A lagging indicator of which desks had been busy enough to promote, not a count of open associate jobs.

Norton Rose Fulbright promotions release, December 2025; 51 partners across 12 practices.

Geography of that class, from the same release: 18 in the US, 12 in Canada, 10 in the UK. Global Legal Post, on 11 December 2025, noted 51 percent women (26 of 51) and four of the ten London promotions in banking and finance. Bloomberg Law, on 23 February 2026, recorded 12 US partners already added in 2026 by late February, with the US managing partner expecting 25 to 30 US partner additions by year-end versus 10 in 2025. Executive Order 14230, dated 6 March 2025, is the overlay on that reopen: the firm is not named in the order; the same Bloomberg piece records that US partner hiring was slowed in early 2025 as administration actions left the lateral market “fairly unsettled,” then restarted. The $235,000 match is the talent-market consequence of demand returning, not a separate thesis.

05 What the tables omit

A missing bonus grid is a missing bonus grid.

Firm careers pages and the legal press publish scale and bonus only when the dollars are on the record. Several 2026 cells are not.

The last fully tabled US bonus match is the 2024 cycle. Above the Law’s 2024 bonus tracker records Norton Rose Fulbright matching on 3 December 2024: Class of 2024 at $15,000 plus $6,000 prorated, Class of 2017 and senior at $115,000 plus $25,000, 1,900 hours including 50 FIT hours for special-bonus eligibility, paid 31 January 2025. That row measures that cycle only. It is not a 2026 grid.

London’s 2025 hours envelope is equally dated, and equally not 2026. Legal Cheek, on 14 February 2025, reported that NQs who achieved the required hours could then earn between £143,000 and £189,000 in total compensation. That band was not republished in the May 2026 NQ stories. A candidate who quotes it as a 2026 promise is quoting last year. A general counsel who budgets it as this year’s in-house match is budgeting a number the employer has not repeated.

PEP is the figure everyone wants to treat as partner pay. It is firm profit divided by equity owners. Bloomberg Law’s nearly $2.1 million is a 2025 average. The US member’s 32 percent PEP spike and the EMEAPAC pool are different denominators. A chief legal officer who offers “something like PEP” to an incoming head of legal is not matching a published table. They are inventing a third number this page will not print.

A general counsel who matches a Houston projects associate to London NQ cash is not matching the market.
On the in-house match
06 The company that pays it

Match the local table, or keep the work on panel.

The second reader on this page is the general counsel, chief legal officer or head of HR who has to put the same lawyer on a company payroll. The move that fails is the one that prices the wrong member.

The brief the company wroteThe hire that actually signs

  1. Match the local table US-barred projects, energy or disputes counsel against the US class-year base. English-qualified NQ against £140,000. Name the member before you name the cash.
  2. Price the wrong member Sterling NQ against a Houston CV, or PEP against an associate, or the Office of GC band against a lockstep seat. The process then stalls on the offer, not on the shortlist.
  3. Keep the work on panel If the company cannot match the local published table, the honest move is a retained panel lead, not a disguised lockstep on a company W-2.

The published number is a member-firm base, gated, and incomplete without bonus.

  • US associates read the 1 July 2026 class-year grid and the 1,900-hour gate. Class of 2025 is still $235,000 on this firm’s printed table. Partnership consideration is generally after eight years on the employer FAQ. The 2026 bonus dollar is not public.
  • London NQs read £140,000 from 1 April 2026, frozen trainee bases, and an SQE training contract with compulsory Corporate and Banking. Client secondment is common; it is not an in-house job. UK PQE is not on the careers page.
  • Partners read 2025 PEP as an average, not a draw. US PEP moved faster than the global print because the US pool did. Individual guarantees are not in the public record this article opened.

The in-house match is a local table plus a decision about whether the seat belongs on payroll at all.

  • Energy, infrastructure and data-center general counsel are matching US projects, real-estate and interconnection associates against the US lockstep, into files FERC and ERCOT dated in June 2026. The firm’s energy, infrastructure and resources page, accessed 11 September 2026, states over 1,300 lawyers across those practices.
  • Bank and insurer heads of legal are matching London NQs off a compulsory Banking seat, or insurance-regulatory associates off a Solvency II close. The financial-institutions page states more than 1,000 lawyers. A June 2026 firm release describes a syndicate of 16 financial institutions on a €2.385 billion facility for a Central European multi-utility.
  • Public-body and hyperscaler legal departments sit on the same buyer list the firm names: governments on the London office line, the Texas Attorney General as a contingency client, developers, operators, lenders and cloud providers on the March 2026 data-center group release. They match the local table or they leave the work with the member firm.

Two recent London associate files, anonymized to type and tier, show the same fork. A US energy-infrastructure sponsor opened a mid-level projects seat after the March 2026 data-center group launch. The first internal band was built off London NQ sterling. The shortlist was US-barred. The process sat still until the company put the Class of 2022 base of $320,000 on paper; it then closed inside the 6-to-12-week window. A UK-listed insurer tried the reverse after a Solvency II-conditioned personal-lines close: it offered a London NQ a number under £140,000 and met a counter. Counter-offer incidence on Sartori’s London associate line is 35 percent. The files that die are the ones that price Houston off a London NQ.

A general counsel at a UK-listed insurer described the 2026 desk this way: we had been matching City NQ; the Houston CV was a different check. That is the whole page, in one sentence the company can take to finance. A chief legal officer briefing HR and the CFO should name the member firm, the class year or the qualification year, and the 1,900-hour gate where it applies, and should leave profits per equity partner off the offer paper. If finance will not sign the local published table, the brief is not an in-house search. It is a panel conversation.

07 The search

Name the member before you name the cash.

Sartori has worked the London associate market for more than 10 years, for law firms and for the companies that hire the same lawyers in-house. Over the trailing three years we closed 33 associate searches, with a 93 percent completion rate and a typical timeline of 6 to 12 weeks.

Of those 33 closed London associate searches, 12 were energy, infrastructure or project-finance seats at years three to six. The remaining closed book split between company-side matches and other associate desks. Median offer-to-acceptance on the line is 12 working days once a candidate is actually in play. The clock that slips is the one before the offer, when the brief still pretends one brand is one payroll.

Over a 24-month window, 28 in-house match processes on this line — processes, not closed files — reached an offer conversation. Seven of those 28 died when the hiring company priced a US-barred lawyer off the London NQ table. That is the finding that does not flatter the method: when the original brief brings the wrong member’s number, conversion of that brief is worse, and no amount of process polish repairs a band finance will not sign. We would rather send the company back to rewrite the table than run a search that cannot close.

Quarterly market surveys have run since 2019. The global mapping frame is about 1.5 million lawyer profiles. Neither of those figures is a London headcount, and neither prices an NRF class year. What they support is the same research program that produced the London associate telemetry on this page. A company that wants the seat on payroll can brief the in-house desk. A lawyer weighing the published tables can read the associate recruiting practice or the in-house counsel search before anyone sees a name.

Norton Rose Fulbright pay: questions both readers ask

What is the Norton Rose Fulbright salary in 2026?

It is two published tables, not one number: a US associate lockstep of $235,000 to $455,000 from 1 July 2026, and a London newly qualified base of £140,000 from 1 April 2026. Above the Law printed the US match on 1 July 2026 (scorecard date 30 June) for associates billing 1,900 hours. The UK figure sits on the firm’s London training-contract page and in Legal Cheek, RollOnFriday, Non-Billable and Law360 coverage from 6–8 May 2026. A general counsel matching either lawyer is matching that member firm’s payroll, not a Swiss-verein average.

What does a Norton Rose Fulbright associate earn on the 2026 US lockstep?

On the grid Above the Law printed on 1 July 2026, Class of 2026 and Class of 2025 both sit at $235,000, Class of 2022 at $320,000, and Class of 2018 at $455,000, all gated at 1,900 hours. That is base salary, not bonus. The 2026 US bonus dollar grid was not on the Above the Law 2025 tracker; the last fully tabled US match is the 2024 cycle. The US member’s own FAQ states a summer weekly of $4,519 as the annualized first-year rate.

What is the Norton Rose Fulbright NQ salary in London in 2026?

The UK member pays London newly qualified solicitors £140,000 from 1 April 2026, up from £135,000 a year earlier. Trainees stay at £56,000 and £61,000. Law360, on 6 May 2026, printed that NQ as $190,284; the Bank of England sterling–dollar spot on 10 September 2026 converts the same £140,000 at $189,434. RollOnFriday recorded on 8 May 2026 that the firm would not publish UK PQE bands or a Newcastle NQ.

What do Norton Rose Fulbright partners make?

There is no published partner lockstep. Bloomberg Law, on 23 February 2026, reported calendar-2025 profits per equity partner of nearly $2.1 million, up 27 percent, on global revenue of more than $2.8 billion. That is an average of equity-owner profit across financially independent verein members, not a paycheck. US PEP rose 32 percent on US revenue of $1.2 billion. Individual draws are not public.

How should a general counsel match an NRF lawyer moving in-house?

Match the local published table for the seat you are actually hiring: the US class-year base if the lawyer is US-barred, the London NQ if the lawyer is an English solicitor. Do not use PEP, and do not price a Houston projects associate off £140,000. The US member’s own Compliance Lawyer posting on 19 August 2026 advertised $135,000–$165,000 — that is an Office of GC / conflicts seat, not the lockstep associate. Sartori’s London associate line closes in 6 to 12 weeks when the brief names the right table.

Did Norton Rose Fulbright publish a 2026 US bonus scale?

No public page prints a 2026 US bonus dollar grid. The last fully tabled match is 3 December 2024: $15,000 plus $6,000 prorated at Class of 2024, and $115,000 plus $25,000 at Class of 2017 and senior, paid 31 January 2025, on a 1,900-hour gate including 50 Firm Investment Time hours. Treat 2026 bonus cash as not public. The US FAQ still says associates who hit 1,900 client hours are eligible for a productivity bonus; it does not name the dollar.

Reachability and conversion come from Sartori's London associate program.

US class-year bases are the NRF grid Above the Law printed on 1 July 2026, not the market-wide Milbank table. London NQ is the employer page plus Legal Cheek, RollOnFriday, Non-Billable and Law360 in May 2026. The $190,284 print is Law360's 6 May 2026 conversion; $189,434 is £140,000 at the Bank of England sterling spot on 10 September 2026. PEP is a 2025 average from Bloomberg Law, 23 February 2026. The $135,000–$165,000 band is the US member's own 19 August 2026 Compliance Lawyer posting.

The market-wide 2026 associate lockstep lives on the BigLaw associate salary scale. Company-side bands live on the 2026 in-house salary map and the general counsel salary benchmark. How the corporate desk runs a mandate lives on in-house counsel recruiting. Compensation data is general information, not financial, career or legal advice. Actual pay varies by member firm, class year, hours, bonus eligibility and the company’s own bands.

Match the table that actually pays the lawyer.
