Willkie Farr Salary 2026: the associate the market still prices as a New York commodity.

Willkie U.S. careers pages, accessed 11 September 2026, still publish a $225,000 first-year base. The 2026 firm table around that floor — bonus match, London NQ, revenue, a 2023 PEP average — is what a general counsel actually has to underwrite.

The market still prices the associate as a lockstep unit.

Across 1,675 structured interviews with New York partners and counsel, the general counsel who has to match a Willkie Farr salary still hears New York lockstep as a single commodity price. It is not. Willkie's own U.S. careers pages, accessed 11 September 2026, still publish a first-year associate base of $225,000.

Line 01 · Published U.S. first-year $225,000

Willkie U.S. early-careers and clerks-and-laterals pages, accessed 11 September 2026, still list a salary of $225,000 per year for first-year associates and a lock-step associate compensation system. That is the firm’s own published floor, not a market tracker. Not the July 2026 market floor.

Four published lines. One of them is the commodity the market still quotes. The full 2026 table sits in the next section.

02 The 2026 table

The 2026 Willkie Farr salary table the commodity label discards.

A first-year base is a unit. The 2026 table is a set of published lines that do not move together: U.S. lockstep, a bonus memorandum, a sterling NQ, and a profit average that is not a salary.

Willkie Farr & Gallagher still tells the market, on two U.S. careers pages accessed on 11 September 2026, that first-year associates are paid $225,000 on a lock-step system with competitive bonuses. That sentence is doing real work for two readers. The associate hears a New York lockstep number that has been the January 2026 Cravath floor. The general counsel, the chief legal officer and the head of legal who have to match a Willkie-trained hire, or who underwrite the same private-equity and funds work as outside counsel, hear a commodity. The discard is the second hearing.

Cravath’s 18 November 2025 compensation memorandum set 2026 U.S. bases effective 1 January 2026, with the class of 2025 at $225,000 and the class of 2019 at $420,000. That memorandum is the market lockstep Willkie’s published first-year still sits on. It is not a Willkie class-by-class payroll extract. The firm does not print years two through eight. The page that does print a full 2026 market ladder is our BigLaw associate salary scale for 2026; that ladder is Milbank’s 1 July grid, and it is not this firm’s table.

What Willkie did publish for the 2025 bonus season is the match. Above the Law’s 2025 bonus scorecard records the firm matching on 24 November 2025, with no minimum hours listed in that table. The firm’s own U.S. associates memorandum, dated 17 December 2025, repeats the dollar bands and dates expected payment to 13 February 2026 for associates employed on the pay date. Use the tracker for the match date. Use the memorandum for the gate and the later pay date.

Willkie U.S. associate year-end and special bonuses for the 2025 season. Match date: 24 November 2025, Above the Law. Dollar bands and pay date: firm memorandum, 17 December 2025. Class-year labels follow the Cravath 18 November 2025 memorandum, whose dollar bands the Willkie memo matches. These are bonus dollars, not 2026 base salaries.
Class year Year-end Special Gate on the memo
Class of 2025 $15,000 $6,000 Prorated to 6 October 2025
Class of 2024 $20,000 $6,000 Performance criteria; good standing
Class of 2023 $30,000 $10,000 Same memo grid
Class of 2022 $57,500 $15,000 Same memo grid
Class of 2021 $75,000 $20,000 Same memo grid
Class of 2020 $90,000 $25,000 Same memo grid
Class of 2019 $105,000 $25,000 Same memo grid
Class of 2018+ $115,000 $25,000 Top of the published bonus scale

Sort the year-end column and the compression is the story: every class from 2018 back draws the same $115,000 year-end. The associate who earns that line is not paid a unique premium for being Willkie. The general counsel who budgets an all-in cash number by adding an unpublished 2026 base raise to this table is inventing a figure the firm has not printed. This page does not add those two unpublished numbers together.

Published Willkie lines against the July 2026 U.S. market raise. The market column is Milbank’s 2 June 2026 announcement, effective 1 July 2026, as restated by Above the Law and Bloomberg Law. Willkie’s column is only what the firm or a dated match table actually printed.
Line Willkie published 1 July 2026 market (Milbank) On ATL summer 2026 scorecard
U.S. first-year base $225,000 (careers, 11 September 2026) $235,000 Absent
Eighth-year U.S. base Not published by Willkie $455,000 Absent
2018+ year-end / special (2025 season) $115,000 / $25,000 (matched 24 November 2025) Bonus scale unchanged by the June raise Not a 2026 base event
London NQ £180,000 (Legal Cheek, 12 March 2026) A sterling grid, not the U.S. lockstep Not on that U.S. scorecard
Firm-level gross revenue as restated in public sources: $986 million in 2020 (Legal Business, 7 July 2026), $1.5 billion in 2023 (firm reprint of The American Lawyer, 15 July 2024), $1.775 billion in 2024 (Above the Law, 1 December 2025), $2 billion in 2025 (Legal Business via firm reprint, 13 July 2026). This is not associate cash and not PEP.

Legal Business 7 July 2026 / firm reprint 13 July 2026; Willkie reprint of The American Lawyer, 15 July 2024; Above the Law, 1 December 2025.

Revenue more than doubled from 2020 to 2025 while the published U.S. first-year stayed on the $225,000 lockstep that had been the market floor from 2023 until June 2026. That is the opposite of a commodity story if you are sitting in the general counsel’s chair: the invoice you pay is being funded by a firm that Legal Business, on 7 July 2026, described as clearing a $2 billion 2025 marker from $986 million in 2020, and the associate unit cost you are matching is still the careers-page floor. The discard of that associate as interchangeable New York lockstep is a pay-grid error, not a capital error. The published first-year is the unit. It is not the 2026 table.

The published first-year is the unit. It is not the 2026 table.
On the published unit
03 Bonus season, then the raise

The bonus match is dated. The June 2026 base raise is not a Willkie line.

Two different instruments, two different dates, two different things a general counsel can actually verify.

Commodity lockstepFirm-level table

  1. The unit A New York first-year, priced as interchangeable lockstep. The careers page still prints one number for that unit.
  2. The bonus season A dated match to a named grid, with a later firm memorandum for eligibility and pay date. Verifiable. Not a base raise.
  3. The 2026 table Bonus match, sterling NQ, revenue, a PEP average, and an explicit blank where partner drawings and class-year U.S. bases would sit.

Above the Law’s 1 December 2025 write-up states that Willkie announced matching the Cravath scale complete with Milbank’s summer bonuses, and cites 2024 gross revenue of $1,775,000,000. The 17 December 2025 memorandum is the primary document for who actually gets paid: eligible associates in good standing; proration for leave, part-time or a join after 1 January 2025 unless full annual performance criteria are met; members of the 2025 associate class prorated to 6 October 2025; eligibility tied to the Annual Bonus Policy dated 2 January 2025. That policy itself was not published. Forum claims that some 2025 bonuses were docked for time-entry or in-office non-compliance are anecdote. Prevalence is not a figure this page can carry.

The June event is separate. On 2 June 2026 Milbank raised U.S. associate bases by $10,000 to $20,000 by class year, to a first-year of $235,000 through an eighth-year of $455,000, effective 1 July 2026, as reported by Above the Law the same day. Bloomberg Law, on 17 June 2026, restated that grid and said more than a dozen firms had adopted it within two weeks; among Am Law 100 names it listed Milbank, McDermott Will & Schulte, Quinn Emanuel, Katten Muchin and Susman Godfrey. Willkie is not on that list. Above the Law’s 2026 summer scorecard, dated 5 June 2026 and updated through at least 31 August 2026, lists matching firms from Milbank onward. Willkie Farr does not appear. Biglaw Investor’s tracker, accessed 11 September 2026, puts the 2026 market ladder at $235,000 through $455,000 after that raise. Totals on that tracker mix base and bonuses and are not Willkie payroll.

Willkie did match the prior bonus cycle. Above the Law, on 26 November 2024, recorded a match to the then-prevailing Milbank year-end and special scale, and cited 2023 gross revenue of $1,500,000,000 with an Am Law 100 rank of No. 30. Continuity of bonus matching is not a 2026 base match. The two sentences have to stay apart or a head of HR will lock the wrong number.

04 London

The sterling grid moved. The dollar floor did not.

London newly qualified pay is a published Willkie line. It is not a conversion of the New York lockstep, and it is not a partner drawing.

London trainee and newly qualified bases in sterling. Year one and year two from the 2025 graduate brochure. NQ from Legal Cheek, 12 March 2026. The brochure £170,000 NQ line is the pre-March figure and is not plotted.

Willkie 2025 graduate recruitment brochure; Legal Cheek, 12 March 2026.

Legal Cheek, on 12 March 2026, put the London NQ lift at £10,000, just under 6 percent, matching Davis Polk, Gibson Dunn and Paul Weiss on that sterling line. Those names are London NQ peers on a dated Legal Cheek report. They are not this page’s U.S. salary table, and they are not a restatement of those firms’ domestic lockstep pages. The firm’s UK early-careers page, accessed 11 September 2026, puts the London office at over 140 lawyers and over 40 partners, with up to eight training contracts a year and 100 percent of qualifying trainees retained in 2026. Vacation-scheme-only entry; minimum 2:1; SQE at the University of Law, with non-England-and-Wales law graduates taking a nine-month PGDL first. The Solicitors Regulation Authority’s SQE route (page dated August 2025) still requires SQE1, SQE2, two years’ qualifying work experience and suitability checks.

The 2025 graduate brochure is the trainee package, not the March NQ. It still lists £60,000 and £65,000, vacation-scheme pay of £750 a week, up to 20 people on 2026 spring and summer schemes, a £20,000 maintenance grant plus course fees, and a compulsory contentious seat plus a compulsory corporate seat in private equity or corporate insurance. It also states London headcount grown by over 160 percent over the past six years and by 51 percent since 2020. Legal Business, restated by the firm on 13 July 2026, put London office revenue up 7.5 percent in 2025 and London partner count up more than 75 percent in five years, with seven promotions to partnership in London that year.

Trainee-level client secondments are not offered; associate-level client secondments are. That is the documented bridge from the sterling seat to an in-house desk, and it is why a chief legal officer in London reading this page is not looking at a U.S. lockstep W-2. The transatlantic contrast — Magic Circle lockstep to a U.S. firm’s City office — lives on our lockstep-to-U.S-firm compensation piece. This page owns Willkie’s published sterling line, not that market.

05 Two readers

The associate earns a published unit. The company pays a different bill.

Sartori has closed 33 New York associate searches in three years at a 93 percent completion rate. The people who fund those seats are general counsel, chiefs of legal and heads of HR, not a lockstep slogan.

Who earns the cashWho underwrites it

  1. The lockstep earner U.S. associate, counsel, income partner, equity partner; London trainee and NQ on a separate grid. The W-2 or the drawing sits here.
  2. The in-house matcher A general counsel or chief legal officer hiring a Willkie-trained lawyer onto a company payroll, and having to pick a number that will clear the committee.
  3. The invoice The same PE, funds, insurance, finance and disputes work bought as outside counsel. The company pays the firm even when it never hires the associate.

Across 1,675 structured interviews with New York partners and counsel, 91 respondents sitting as general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal at private-equity sponsors, insurers and asset managers over a 24-month window described how they set a lockstep match. Of those 91, 61 said they had at least once budgeted “market” without opening the target firm’s own careers page. That is the commodity error this page is for.

A general counsel at a listed global private-equity sponsor, speaking in that same window, told us their match grid for a Willkie-trained funds associate had been built on the June 2026 first-year, and the candidate’s W-2 still sat on the published $225,000 lockstep. A chief legal officer at a PE-backed insurer put it the other way: the number the board actually underwrites is the Willkie invoice on a block-reinsurance file, not the associate’s base, and they had no 2024 or 2025 PEP figure they trusted enough to use as a partner-hire proxy.

Of 33 closed New York associate searches over three years, 16 were private equity, finance including private credit, or restructuring seats at years three to six. Those 16 are the files where a company’s “corporate associate” brief usually breaks. The practice labels that are actually moving, on the firm’s own announcements, are private equity and M&A (Dallas office launched 6 May 2024 with seven private-equity partners; eight Texas laterals since the start of 2023), capital markets in Chicago (an 11-lawyer team on 21 August 2024, office then at 88 lawyers), and finance and restructuring in Chicago (two finance partners on 18 May 2026, office more than 130 lawyers from six partners in March 2020). The American Lawyer 2026 Laterals Report, restated by Willkie on 26 February 2026, ranked the firm #18 among the top 20 Am Law 200 firms by 2025 lateral partner additions. That is context for the book. It is not the salary table.

The person on the W-2 is almost never on a company payroll. The published lines are still the only numbers that person can verify without the partnership’s internal file.

  • Read the careers page. The U.S. first-year is $225,000 as of 11 September 2026. Years two through eight are not printed there.
  • Read the bonus memorandum. Eligibility sits on the 2 January 2025 Annual Bonus Policy and good standing. The expected pay date on the 17 December 2025 memo is 13 February 2026.
  • Do not add an unpublished raise. An all-in that assumes the July 2026 $235,000 floor is not a Willkie figure.
  • London is a different grid. £180,000 NQ from 12 March 2026; trainee £60,000 / £65,000. No dollar conversion on this page.
  • Partner is not a salary scale. 2023 PEP of about $3.86 million is an average. Income-partner and nonequity bands are not public.

The person who funds the number is a general counsel, a chief legal officer, or a head of legal pricing either a hire or an invoice.

  • Open the careers page first. The $10,000 gap between $225,000 and the 1 July 2026 market floor is the amount a compensation committee over-briefs if it copies a tracker.
  • Price the in-house alternative on an employer page. Macquarie Asset Management posted an Associate General Counsel, Funds role in New York on 13 July 2026 at a $250,000 to $330,000 base, covering credit BDCs, ’40 Act funds, private credit funds and retail alts, with AUM cited at A$720 billion as at 30 September 2025.
  • The PE-sponsor GC seat is a different product. Carlyle’s 1 June 2026 exhibit named a new general counsel effective 29 June 2026, based in Washington, D.C., reporting to the CEO, against $475 billion AUM as of 31 March 2026. That is a company payroll, not lockstep.
  • Budget the invoice separately. More than 300 private equity sponsors sit on the firm PE page. The lockstep is the unit cost of the people staffing those files, not a proxy for what the company should pay an in-house deputy.

New York mandate telemetry on the associate line records a 37 percent counter-offer incidence and a median of 11 working days from offer to acceptance. The typical file still sits inside 6 to 12 weeks. Of those 33 closed files, 8 required the company to re-brief compensation after the first offer because the locked number sat on the 1 July 2026 Milbank floor rather than on Willkie’s published first-year. Those eight still closed. They consumed the long end of the band. That is on us as much as on the brief: the careers page should have been in the first call, not the fourth.

Two composites, category only. A PE-backed healthcare platform in New York asked us to hire a year-four to year-five private-equity associate off a Willkie-type desk; the head of legal had already taken $235,000 to the compensation committee as “market.” The file moved once the committee saw the careers page. A listed global asset manager running an associate general counsel, funds search in New York priced the seat against the Macquarie $250,000 to $330,000 disclosure rather than against an invented Willkie all-in; that is the cleaner company-side method, because it uses an employer’s own posting.

06 Partner pay

A Willkie partner salary, in 2026, is not a number the firm prints.

PEP is a published average from an older survey year. It is the only partner-pay figure this page will carry, because it is the only one with a public, dated source that survived a check.

Willkie’s 15 July 2024 reprint of The American Lawyer put 2023 revenue at $1.5 billion, up about 134 percent from 2014, and profits per equity partner up 51 percent to about $3.86 million, with the firm described as having doubled in size to approximately 1,200 lawyers. That PEP measures ALM profits divided by equity-partner FTEs. Profits per equity partner is an average, not a drawing. It is not take-home for an income partner, a nonequity partner or counsel. The firm does not publish a partner salary scale. A “Willkie partner salary” figure that is not that 2023 PEP, or a named-partner drawing, is not public and is not estimated here.

2024 and 2025 PEP cuts that circulate in paywalled Am Law and New York Law Journal tables were not recovered when accessed. They are omitted. Wikipedia’s infobox PEP line is unsourced for that purpose and is not used. ILRG’s 2025 rank page, using NLJ / Am Law 2024-year data, puts the firm at 1,183 total attorneys and 355 partners, up 5.6 percent year on year, rank #33 down from #31 in 2024, with a historical run of 1,120 attorneys in 2024, 871 attorneys and 239 partners in 2022, 760 in 2021, and 658 attorneys and 156 partners in 2018. The firm’s About Us page and the Chambers Global 2026 profile, both 11 September 2026, say 1,300 lawyers and more than 1,300 attorneys across 16 offices in 6 countries. Band the lawyer count as about 1,180 to 1,300 depending on vintage. Do not pick one number as the 2026 headcount.

Chambers Global 2026 records 41 ranked departments and 63 ranked individuals in that cut. None of that is a compensation number. The partner-pay mechanics that sit behind PEP at Am Law firms generally — lockstep drift, nonequity tiers, origination credit — are the subject of our Am Law 50 partner-pay briefing. This page will not restate that table as Willkie’s.

The funds AGC band is a 13 July 2026 employer posting. The published $225,000 first-year is the careers-page unit and is not re-plotted here.

07 The book behind the grid

The lockstep looks like a commodity. The book that funds it is not.

Private equity, private credit, a live Chapter 11 cycle, and a funds-and-insurance overlay are what a general counsel is buying when the invoice says Willkie — not a generic New York corporate associate.

Commercial cycleFirm-specific shock

  1. Deal and credit desks PE, M&A, finance, funds. Mid-level associates and the partners who run the workstreams. This is where the lockstep is earned.
  2. Restructuring cycle Commercial Chapter 11 volume in 1H 2026. Large-cap and cross-border seats, not a Subchapter V mill.
  3. Funds and merger-control overlay The 2024 private-fund rule is vacated. Ordinary Advisers Act and Guideline 8 / 11 work remains. Expanded HSR hours may lighten after February 2026.
  4. Investigations load The 2025 public-service agreement and the 2026 discovery subpoenas load partners and senior associates. They do not reprice the first-year unit.

J.P. Morgan’s 2026 Global M&A Mid-Year Outlook, citing Dealogic as of 30 June 2026, put first-half 2026 global M&A volume at $3.2 trillion, up 44 percent year on year, with 48 mega-deals totaling $1.3 trillion, North America at $2.1 trillion, and EMEA at $1 trillion. Strategics were 76 percent of volume. That is announced global value, not Willkie fees. It is the size of the transactional desk a lockstep first-year is being hired onto. The firm’s own PE page, accessed 11 September 2026, states more than 300 private equity sponsors, Chambers USA 2026 ranking in both Nationwide Private Equity: Buyouts High-end Capability and Mid-Market, a Preqin rank of #6 globally among law firms on PE-backed buyouts for 2024 through H1 2025, and a Mergermarket rank of #6 on target/seller global PE exits by deal count for deals announced in 2025. Law360 selected the firm for 2025 Practice Group of the Year in Private Equity and in Real Estate, from about 800 submissions, as restated by Willkie on 20 January 2026. The 2025 graduate brochure says clients looked to the team for more than 200 private equity deals in 2023 alone. Asset Management, on the practice page accessed 11 September 2026, is approximately 150 attorneys across eight offices.

Preqin, on 16 October 2025, projected global alternatives AUM of $32 trillion by 2030 and private credit AUM of $4.5 trillion by 2030. Those are forecasts, labeled as such, and they are why a Chicago finance seat serving direct lenders is not a generic New York corporate chair. The American Bankruptcy Institute, with Epiq, reported on 6 April 2026 that first-quarter 2026 commercial Chapter 11 filings ran 2,422, up 37 percent from 1,764 in the first quarter of 2025. Epiq, on 6 May 2026, put April 2026 commercial Chapter 11 at 644, up 42 percent from 454 in April 2025. Subchapter V elections are a small-business spike and are not this firm’s large-cap seat. Peak demand on the Strategic Capital and Restructuring desk is mid-level to partner.

The funds overlay moved the other way. In National Association of Private Fund Managers v. SEC, No. 23-60471 (5th Cir. 5 June 2024), the Fifth Circuit vacated the private-fund adviser Final Rule in full. That removes the 2024–25 build-out of prescriptive private-fund compliance associate seats the August 2023 rule would have required. It does not remove ordinary Advisers Act, Investment Company Act, fund-formation, secondaries and investor-side work. The 2023 Merger Guidelines, issued 18 December 2023, remained the agencies’ stated framework in an 18 February 2025 continuation memo; Guideline 8 (series of acquisitions) and Guideline 11 (partial ownership) still staff antitrust associates on PE roll-ups. The Eastern District of Texas, in Chamber of Commerce of the U.S. v. FTC, No. 6:25-cv-00009-JDK (12 February 2026), vacated the November 2024 expanded HSR rules, as described in Willkie’s 13 February 2026 client alert. Junior HSR-form hours may lighten from late February 2026 if the vacatur holds. Substantive Guideline 8 and 11 review does not.

Two firm-specific political events load a different desk. Reuters, on 1 April 2025, reported that the firm agreed to provide $100 million in free legal services to mutually agreed projects, and not to engage in illegal diversity-related employment practices, to avert an executive order. That is not a first-year lockstep change. It loads pro bono staffing, employment-practices review, and government-facing work onto partners and professional-responsibility counsel. ICLG, on 21 July 2026, reported that the Department of Justice had subpoenaed 14 firms, disclosed in District of Columbia filings on 17 July 2026, in the American Bar Association’s June 2025 lawsuit; Willkie is named among the nine firms that reached agreements, with combined pro bono commitments of $940 million across those nine. That is an investigations and professional-responsibility load from July 2026 through the discovery calendar. It is not a reason to reprice the careers-page first-year.

Geography follows the book, not the commodity. Dallas opened 6 May 2024 as a private-equity and M&A seat. Reuters the same day noted six of the 200 highest-grossing U.S. firms had opened Texas offices in 2023, citing Leopard Solutions, and named a listed telecom, an oil-and-gas operator and a Dallas investment manager as local client types. Hamburg opened 2 July 2025 with about 25 lawyers initially, first-wave practices in restructuring, litigation and private equity, a third German office and the 16th worldwide, against about 90 lawyers in Germany at announcement. Chicago finance, on 18 May 2026, is the private-credit cycle made local: the firm finance page says 90-plus dedicated finance lawyers; the May release said nearly 100. None of those seats is priced as a Dallas or Hamburg local rate on the U.S. careers pages. The published U.S. unit remains the New York lockstep floor.

Bloomberg Law, on 17 June 2026, also noted that after the raise, AI had not killed demand for associates. There is no dated Willkie layoff number in the research file. The published lockstep and the 2025 bonus match are inconsistent with writing a freeze. Task mix can shift. Headcount collapse is not a 2026 fact this page will invent.

Sartori maps about 67,000 lawyers in New York. That file records employer, class year and practice. It does not record whether a given Willkie associate’s 2026 W-2 moved off the careers-page $225,000, because that is unpublished payroll. The gap is the uncomfortable limit of the mapping, and it is why this page refuses to treat a market tracker as this firm’s scale.

The associate-line service view of the New York desk sits on New York associate recruiting. The company-side desk — the general counsel who has to put a lawyer on the payroll — sits on in-house counsel recruiting. Partner-pay context that is not this firm’s drawing table lives on the Am Law 50 partner-pay page.

Willkie Farr compensation: questions associates and general counsel actually ask

What is a Willkie Farr salary in 2026?

Willkie still publishes a U.S. first-year base of $225,000 on its own careers pages as of 11 September 2026. That is the only class-year U.S. base the firm itself prints. The 2026 firm table around it is the 24 November 2025 bonus match, London newly qualified pay of £180,000 from 12 March 2026, and a 2023 profits-per-equity-partner average of about $3.86 million restated from The American Lawyer. Individual 2026 partner drawings are not public. A general counsel matching the figure should open those careers pages before locking a “market” number to the July 2026 $235,000 first-year.

Did Willkie match the June 2026 $235,000 associate scale?

No published match appears on Above the Law’s 2026 summer scorecard, which was updated through late August 2026. Milbank announced the $235,000 to $455,000 grid on 2 June 2026, effective 1 July 2026. Bloomberg Law on 17 June 2026 listed more than a dozen early matchers and named five Am Law 100 firms; Willkie was not among them. The firm’s careers pages still show $225,000. Do not write a Willkie first-year as $235,000 from a market tracker.

What bonuses did Willkie pay U.S. associates for 2025?

Willkie matched Cravath’s year-end and special bonuses on 24 November 2025, with the class of 2018 and senior at $115,000 year-end and $25,000 special. Above the Law listed no minimum hours for that match. The firm’s 17 December 2025 memorandum dates expected payment to 13 February 2026 for associates still employed on the pay date, against an Annual Bonus Policy dated 2 January 2025. The class of 2025 receives $15,000 and $6,000, prorated to 6 October 2025.

What is a Willkie partner salary?

Individual 2026 drawings are not public, and the firm does not publish a partner salary scale. Willkie’s 15 July 2024 reprint of The American Lawyer put 2023 profits per equity partner at about $3.86 million. That is ALM profits divided by equity-partner FTEs, not take-home for any income partner, nonequity partner or counsel. 2024 and 2025 PEP figures that circulate behind Am Law paywalls were not recovered on a public read and are omitted here.

What does Willkie pay newly qualified lawyers in London?

Legal Cheek reported on 12 March 2026 that Willkie raised London newly qualified pay to £180,000, a £10,000 lift. Trainee bases in the firm’s 2025 graduate brochure are £60,000 in year one and £65,000 in year two. The brochure’s £170,000 NQ line is the pre-March figure. The U.S. lockstep and the sterling grid are separate published lines.

How should a general counsel match a Willkie-trained hire?

Open the firm’s own U.S. careers page first: the published first-year remains $225,000, not the July 2026 $235,000 market floor. For a mid-level, price the published bonus grid the firm matched on 24 November 2025 and the practice the person actually sat in — private equity, finance, funds, insurance or disputes — not a generic New York corporate seat. A New York funds associate-general-counsel posting at a global asset manager on 13 July 2026 ran a $250,000–$330,000 base; that is an in-house alternative, not a Willkie W-2.

Careers pages, bonus memoranda, ALM reprints, and the New York interview cohort.

Associate cash comes from the firm careers pages and bonus memorandum, from Above the Law match tables, and from Legal Cheek on the sterling NQ. Partner pay is the 2023 PEP reprint. Revenue is Legal Business and ALM as restated. In-house overlap is employer postings and an SEC exhibit.

U.S. first-year base is the firm careers pages accessed 11 September 2026, not a 1 July 2026 market tracker. Bonus dollars are the 24 November 2025 match and the 17 December 2025 memorandum; the memorandum wins for eligibility and pay date. Class-year U.S. bases other than first-year are the Cravath 18 November 2025 grid, labeled as market lockstep, not Willkie payroll. 2023 PEP is an ALM average. 2024 and 2025 PEP were not recovered when accessed. Headcount is a 1,180-1,300 band by vintage.

Sartori maps lawyer coverage globally at about 1.5 million profiles and has run quarterly market surveys since 2019. The New York associate findings on this page use the 1,675 structured interviews and the 33 closed searches as separate bases. How the desk runs a mandate is on associate recruiting and in-house counsel recruiting. The research program itself is described on our research page.

If you are a general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal underwriting a Willkie-trained hire — or the invoice that funds the same private-equity, funds, insurance or disputes work — we run the New York associate desk against the table the firm actually published.
