Business Development Manager / Originator — Los Angeles

A ~90-year, family-owned New York commercial-finance firm

Apply in confidence →

A long-established, family-owned New York commercial-finance and factoring firm — with roughly $9 billion in annual factoring volume and decades of stability behind it — is opening a dedicated originator seat in Southern California. This is a true 'boots on the ground' business-development role: you will open, structure and close new client relationships across the Los Angeles market, backed by a seasoned New York team and fast, centralised credit approvals.

The firm lends against clients' receivables and inventory and offers best-in-class credit protection with a genuine appetite for credit risk — the tools that make winning new business materially easier than at a traditional bank. Its clients are manufacturers and wholesalers of consumer products selling into national retail. You own the full origination cycle and are measured on closed, funded business, not on activity or leads. The role reports directly to senior ownership, carries a real path to partner, and comes with a car allowance and a home or serviced office.

It is an autonomous, entrepreneurial seat — built for a self-starter who prefers doing business over bureaucracy, finds their own leads, and will drop everything to close a deal. You will travel by car or plane to see prospects and intermediaries, attend relevant trade shows, and visit the New York home office as needed.

  • At least 10 years of factoring or asset-based lending (ABL) sales experience, ideally in Southern California
  • Strong financial-statement analysis — reads a balance sheet easily and can identify a lendable credit
  • Experience with consumer and wholesale products
  • A deep, established network of business owners and finance leaders (CFOs and controllers), plus accountants, bankers and lawyers — a known quantity in the Los Angeles market and to its money-centre banks
  • A proven new-business originator and closer who finds their own leads and prospects (not a lead-gatherer)
  • A self-starter and self-motivator with impeccable manners, professional presentation and an understanding of chain of command
  • Comfortable travelling to see prospects, intermediaries and trade shows, and visiting the New York home office as needed — keeping the team informed of travel and schedule
  • A stable track record (not a job-hopper) and ready to move on from corporate life to an entrepreneurial firm
  • A four-year college degree — major irrelevant; a successful 10+ year track record speaks for itself
  • Above all, high integrity — a genuinely good person and team player

Compensation & benefits: a competitive base salary ($150,000–$200,000, commensurate with experience) with a guaranteed first-year bonus and an effectively uncapped performance bonus thereafter; medical, dental and vision cover; paid vacation; a 401(k) with profit-sharing; a car allowance; and a home or shared serviced office. A genuine path to partner and significant earning potential for a top producer. This is a build-from-the-market search — there is no expectation that you 'bring a book'.
