We are seeking an experienced Intellectual Property lawyer to join a nationally ranked, directory-listed IP team based in London. The team sits within the wider commercial function and handles both contentious and non-contentious IP work for a broad client base, including FTSE 100-250 companies and SMEs across sectors such as retail and consumer, financial services, defence, pharmaceuticals, engineering and life sciences.

The role is primarily non-contentious, with a strong emphasis on IP transactions and advisory projects. You will act as lead adviser on a range of IP-heavy deals, with responsibility across the IP lifecycle — risk assessments, R&D and technology transfer arrangements, brand management, and national and international strategies for the protection and commercialisation of IP through licensing and franchise structures. There will also be scope to support on M&A and other corporate transactions, as well as to work with disputes colleagues on infringement and enforcement matters.

This is a collegial, collaborative team with growth plans and a strong development and promotion framework. You will manage your own workload, build lasting client relationships and act as a trusted commercial adviser, while mentoring and supervising junior lawyers and contributing to business development and knowledge sharing. Sector experience in at least one of retail and consumer, financial services, advanced manufacturing or life sciences is welcome.

  • Qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience (4+ PQE) in intellectual property law
  • Confident leading transactions and managing client relationships, including with internal corporate teams
  • Consultative and strategic approach, able to translate legal advice into commercial value
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple workstreams to time-critical deadlines
  • Broad IP transactions and advisory experience, with exposure to licensing, R&D and technology transfer arrangements
  • Mentorship and supervision skills, with an interest in business development and thought leadership
  • Desirable: sector experience in retail and consumer, industrial/advanced manufacturing, life sciences or defence; familiarity with registered IP prosecution, portfolio review and strategy; experience on corporate transactions; relevant specialist IP qualifications
