Join a national litigation team as a Costs Draftsman / Costs Lawyer working from the Manchester office. The role involves preparing Bills of Costs for Detailed and Provisional Assessment, conducting litigation of bills through the court process, and providing technical and advisory support to fee-earners. Court advocacy may be required where agreed with the costs lead.

You will work with clients and internal stakeholders throughout cases, contribute to training junior staff and help develop the growing costs capability within the team. Appointment is subject to standard pre-employment screening (eligibility to work in the UK, criminal record and financial checks) carried out in compliance with applicable data-protection law.

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in costs drafting or costs services (in-house or external supplier)
  • Practical experience preparing Bills of Costs for Detailed/Provisional Assessment and handling court-based costs litigation
  • Confident with case management/IT systems and time recording procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a professional telephone manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; flexible approach to changing priorities
  • Desirable: ACL or CILEX qualifications or equivalent; experience training or supervising junior staff
