An opportunity has arisen to join a market-leading local government team within a highly regarded national law firm. The team provides expert defendant litigation services across the public sector, handling public liability and employers' liability claims, with dedicated casualty and casualty fraud capabilities. This role is based in either Birmingham or Leicester.

You will assist on high-value and complex property damage claims arising from escapes of water and waste from infrastructure, natural flooding, tree roots and invasive species. Work spans the pre-action stage through to the High Court Technology and Construction Court, acting for local government and statutory bodies. In addition to supporting senior fee earners on large-scale matters, you will manage your own lower-value fast-track and multi-track property damage claims, with clear scope to progress to greater autonomy on complex disputes.

Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with large-scale disclosure exercises, preparing and obtaining witness and expert evidence, meeting court deadlines, and running cases from start to finish. You will liaise with clients, opponents, courts and witnesses, undertake liability investigations, attend client meetings and court hearings, and contribute to the team's business development activities.

Experience handling or assisting on property damage claims, or prior experience in casualty claims
Experience of public liability, employers' liability or highways claims
Experience managing your own caseload
Good drafting, influencing and communication skills
Working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and proven technical ability
Proactive, forward-thinking mindset with strong time management and attention to detail
Ability to multi-task, prioritise and work to strict deadlines
