Senior Associate / Special Counsel, Public Law — Canberra

An opportunity for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join a national public law and dispute resolution team in Canberra. The role involves leading and contributing to public law and administrative law matters for Commonwealth clients, with scope to act in merits review and judicial review proceedings.

Work will cover a broad range of public sector issues including privacy and data protection, freedom of information, regulatory and administrative disputes, and sectoral matters such as health, environment and biosecurity. The team operates nationally and provides hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

• Minimum 5 years post-admission experience, with substantial work on Commonwealth government matters or in the public sector.
• Experience in public law/administrative law and familiarity with merits review and judicial review processes.
• Exposure to privacy and FOI matters advantageous.
• Strong legal drafting, analysis and oral advocacy skills; ability to run matters and manage competing timelines.
• Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a large national practice.
