Local Government Solicitor

An established national law firm is seeking a Solicitor to join its market-leading Local Government team, based in either Birmingham or Leicester. The team provides a full, expert defendant litigation service across the public sector, handling public liability (PL) and employers' liability (EL) claims, with dedicated commercial insurance and local government capability and a specialist casualty fraud function.

You will run your own caseload of predominantly fast track claims, with multi-track work depending on experience. Day-to-day responsibilities include liaising with clients, opponents, the court and witnesses, and conducting your own liability investigations.

Key duties include handling or assisting on predominantly personal injury matters — including EL, PL and Highways claims — and potentially property damage, social care and data protection claims. You will also assist senior fee earners with case management, legal research, drafting witness statements, client reports and court hearing preparation, attend client meetings and hearings, respond promptly to correspondence and enquiries with and without supervision, meet financial and chargeable targets, and support the team's business development activities.

• Experience handling or assisting on EL/PL files, or previous casualty claims experience, with a genuine, demonstrable interest in the work
• Experience of handling PL, EL and Highways claims
• Experience of handling your own caseload
• Good drafting, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong IT, time management and organisational skills, with good attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task, prioritise and work to strict deadlines, both in a team and on your own initiative
• Knowledge of CPR procedure with proven technical ability
• A proactive, forward-thinking mindset and a willingness to ask questions and engage with the whole team
