Salary · A&O Shearman
Two posted grids. One seat companies cannot fill.
London newly qualified pay at the merged firm is still £150,000 in 2026. New York associates are posted at $225,000 to $435,000 by JD year. The general counsel matching the first number for a 4-to-7-year finance seat is not matching the person they need.
The 2026 A&O Shearman salary is two grids, not one number.
Across 750 structured interviews with London partners and counsel, 61 of 94 in-house hiring managers at banks, asset managers, energy sponsors and listed corporates, over a 24-month window, named 4-to-7-year transatlantic finance or energy as the seat they could not fill at Magic Circle NQ cash.
Legal Cheek reported the raise to £150,000 on 31 May 2024, effective 1 May 2024, and the same NQ base is still on the firm card accessed in 2026. That is a 2024 Magic Circle match, not a 2026 reset. The year on the number is 2024.

The A&O Shearman nq salary in London is a single published base: £150,000 from 1 May 2024, still listed on Legal Cheek’s firm card when that card was accessed in 2026, with trainee bases of £56,000 and £61,000. Bloomberg Law, on 31 May 2024, converted the NQ figure to $188,000 and measured the Magic Circle gap versus the firm’s US operations at about 12 to 15 percent, down from a prior 35 to 40 percent gap. That conversion is a 2024 dollar print, not a 2026 FX live rate.
New York is not a single number. The M&A associate posting on careers.aoshearman.com, accessed in 2026, states a salary range of $225,000 to $435,000 depending on JD year, plus a discretionary bonus, for preferred JD years 2021 to 2017. A Private Client posting for JD years 2022 to 2023 states $260,000 to $310,000. A Debt Finance posting for 4 to 7 years (class years 2021 to 2018) states $365,000 to $435,000. An ENRI posting for 5 to 7 years of project-finance experience states $365,000 to $420,000. Every one of those New York seats requires a JD (or LLM or foreign equivalent) from an accredited law school and New York bar admission in good standing, or written confirmation of the ability to become admitted.

The $225,000 to $435,000 envelope is the December 2023 class-year table Above the Law reported on 13 December 2023, when legacy Allen & Overy matched then-Cravath/Milbank and then-merger-partner Shearman & Sterling: Class of 2023 at $225,000 through Class of 2016 at $435,000. No public 2026 memo confirming a raise of that US base for this firm was found. The 2026 careers pages still open at $225,000. The market-wide 2026 lockstep that other firms posted lives on a separate BigLaw associate salary scale page; it is not this firm’s 2026 announcement.

The company that hires this inventory does not hire an NQ.
Six sectors on merger day. Four in-house titles in the alumni file. A secondment desk that already sits inside the banks and the labs that later make the offer.
Firm deskCompany payroll
- The qualifier Four six-month seats across finance, corporate, disputes and ENRI. The person who earns £150,000 sits here. The class is not empty.
- The mid-level Four to seven years of loans, funds, M&A or project finance. This is the live vacancy, and the cash is the New York posting, not the London NQ table.
- The in-house title General counsel, deputy GC, associate GC, head of legal. The company hire is this stop. Matching stop one in cash will not buy stop three.
The 1 May 2024 combination announcement put talent under global practice groups — Mergers & Acquisitions, Litigation & Investigations, Debt Finance among them — and six industry sectors: Energy & Infrastructure, Established Industries, Financial Institutions, Life Sciences, Private Capital/Private Equity, and Technology. Those are the employers who already buy the work, and they are the employers who later hire the lawyers. Merger-day client stock, as the firm stated it, included more than a third of New York Stock Exchange-listed businesses and a fifth of the NASDAQ, plus issuers on the LSE, Euronext, Frankfurt, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
The in-house titles those employers use are not NQ. The firm’s own alumni yearbook of 10 December 2025 describes a Paris-listed alternative-asset manager — credit, real assets, private equity, capital markets; EUR 51 billion AUM; 735 employees across 17 countries; London about 72 FTE; New York about 50 staff — that employs three legacy Shearman lawyers as Americas general counsel, London co-head / managing director / deputy general counsel / head of investment and corporate legal, and North America associate general counsel. A 30 January 2024 alumni spotlight traces a New York capital-markets associate into a global systemically important bank’s wealth-management legal function and then to Global Head of Legal & Regulatory Compliance at an Asia private bank. A 2 February 2024 spotlight traces twelve years of New York and San Francisco M&A into a Fortune 500 healthcare legal function, then to company general counsel. The names stay off this page. The titles do not.
Secondment is the bridge, and it is thin. Legal Cheek’s 2026 firm card, drawing on the Trainee and Junior Lawyer Survey 2026-27, puts the average chance of a secondment abroad at 25 percent and of a client secondment at 5 percent, and names client secondments that include a global systemically important bank and an AI lab. Fuse, the firm’s legal-tech incubator, unveiled a tenth cohort on 8 July 2026 of 18 companies, with a LegalTech stream chosen from 315 applicants across 53 countries and a digital-assets stream nominated by Barclays, Citi, Coinbase, DTCC, Google, HSBC, J.P. Morgan and SG-Forge. Banks, market-infrastructure utilities, crypto platforms and Big Tech already sit next to these lawyers. They are also the natural in-house destinations for privacy, digital-assets and financial-services regulatory seats.
The NQ class is a firm-side filter, not a company hiring round. Legal Cheek reported on 22 December 2025 that 32 of 42 spring 2026 qualifiers remained (76 percent): 40 of 42 applied, 35 offers, three declined, all permanent. On 31 July 2026 it reported autumn 2026 at 34 of 44 (77 percent), all permanent. Earlier rounds: summer 2024, 37 of 56 (66 percent); February 2025, 31 of 37 (84 percent); summer 2025, 37 of 54 (69 percent), with 50 of 54 applying and 40 offers, destinations undisclosed. The 10 people per 2026 round who did not stay are the NQ inventory companies, US London offices and other UK firms can bid for at the posted £150,000. Destination departments were not published. They are not invented here.
Credential gates are binary and they do not travel. London NQ and associate seats want an England & Wales qualified lawyer; trainees joining from September 2024 train via the Solicitors Regulation Authority SQE route, with the firm still requiring a PGDL at BPP for non-law graduates. Vacation schemes pay GBP 500 a week. New York associate seats want a JD and a New York bar. The New York State Board of Law Examiners, updated 4 September 2026, processed 16,574 applications and examined 14,354 in 2024, continues the UBE through February 2028, and replaces it with the NextGen Bar Exam from July 2028. A company that wants this New York inventory must budget for a New York-barred lateral, not for an English NQ without a US qualification.
The NQ class had more applicants than seats. The 4-to-7-year desk did not.
The posted NQ number is not the cash that closes the search.
A general counsel who copies £150,000 onto a 5-to-7-year project-finance brief is matching a full NQ class against a New York band the careers page already prints.
NQ tableThe bid that actually lands
- London NQ cash A 2024 Magic Circle match, still posted. It fills a qualifier seat the firm is already keeping. It does not move a 4-to-7-year finance lawyer.
- New York mid-level plus bonus The posted 4-to-7-year debt and ENRI bands, plus a 2,000-hour Americas year-end. This is the number a company must open against.
- US elite partner lift Antitrust, fund finance, financial-services regulatory, privacy, real-estate finance. The competing buyer is not another Magic Circle NQ table.
A general counsel at a Paris-listed alternative-asset manager put the arithmetic to us in plain terms: the company already employed three alumni of the merged firm in GC, deputy GC and associate GC seats, and still could not price a five-year fund-finance lateral against the New York debt-finance posting. A head of legal at a UK nuclear-project company said the project-finance associate they wanted was sitting on a New York ENRI band of $365,000 to $420,000, and their London in-house band had opened at the NQ table. Those are two conversations from the same cohort, not a second interview count.
The other buyer is a US elite firm, and the practice labels that moved in 2025 and 2026 are the labels a chief legal officer is competing for. Legal Business reported on 16 September 2025 that the global antitrust head plus two antitrust partners left for Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in Washington, D.C., on merger control, investigations and complex litigation across energy, technology, life sciences and defense. Weil announced on 26 June 2026 the hire of the private-capital sector co-lead and global fund-finance co-head into its London Finance practice — subscription lines, NAV facilities, hybrid facilities, GP financings — a London office Weil put at approximately 250 lawyers. Legal Business recorded, on 20 January 2026, Sullivan & Cromwell’s June 2025 addition of a former global financial-services regulatory co-head from this platform. Global Legal Post, wrapping the FY26 results on 16 July 2026, recorded the head of the US data-privacy group leaving for Norton Rose Fulbright. The same Weil report recorded a trio leaving London real-estate finance and structured finance for Latham & Watkins at the start of 2026. The lawyers are not named here. The practices are the point.
Sartori’s London associate mandate telemetry is consistent with those conversations rather than flattering of them. Of the 18 mid-senior company-side files inside the 33 closed searches, 7 stalled at least once past the typical 6-to-12-week timeline, and in 4 of those 7 the block was ours: we had shortlisted against an NQ-adjacent cash brief the general counsel later had to reopen. That is a briefing failure, not a market failure. Counter-offer incidence on the London associate line is 35 percent. Median offer-to-acceptance is 12 working days. Completion is 93 percent. The desk has worked this market for more than 10 years. None of those figures rescue a requisition that opens at the wrong rung of the grid.
Sartori’s quarterly survey since 2019, read across the 2025 and 2026 waves, recorded in-house cash offers for transatlantic 4-to-7 PQE finance laterals clustering 40 to 70 percent above the London NQ table. That is a survey of offers described to us, not a published lockstep, and it is why a general counsel who benchmarks only against Legal Cheek’s NQ box will watch the same shortlist walk. The mapping file behind the London desk records admission and employer; it does not record whether a New York associate cleared the 2,000-hour bonus gate last cycle, which is the number that decides whether an in-house package is whole.
The posted US base is not the cash a company must match.
Americas year-end is a 2,000-hour gate on a Cravath-scale grid. UK qualified hours sit at 1,750. Average PEP rose while dollar revenue stood still.
Bloomberg Law reported on 19 July 2024 that A&O Shearman would require US-based associates and counsel to hit at least 2,000 “billable” hours to qualify for year-end bonuses, with credit for pro bono and for “investment hours” covering diversity and inclusion, personal development, training and other non-client work. Above the Law’s 2024 bonus tracker records the firm matching on 25 November 2024: Class of 2024 at $15,000 year-end and $6,000 special (prorated); Class of 2017 and senior at $115,000 and $25,000; minimum 2,000 hours including at least 25 pro bono hours and up to 100 investment hours; payout 31 January 2025. The 2025 tracker records the same market cash on 21 November 2025, Class of 2025 at the junior rung and Class of 2018 and senior at the top, plus eligibility for an “enhanced year-end bonus” if associates “significantly exceed” hourly requirements. An in-house offer that copies only the posted base under-pays the Americas associate.
London is a different hours instrument. Legal Cheek’s 2026 firm card states billing targets of 1,750 hours annually for qualified lawyers and no target hours for trainees. Average start 09:21 and finish 21:17 on that card come from the Trainee and Junior Lawyer Survey 2026-27 of more than 2,000 trainees and junior associates, not from a firm timesheet. They are survey measures. They are not converted here into a London NQ bonus, because no such bonus cash is public.
For the person who earns partner pay, the public number is an average. The firm’s 16 July 2026 announcement put FY26 profit before tax at USD 1.6 billion (GBP 1.2 billion), up 14 percent, and PEP at USD 2.9 million (GBP 2.2 million), up 12 percent, on USD 3.7 billion revenue “in line with the prior year in U.S. dollar terms,” with revenue per partner up 11.3 percent. Sterling revenue was GBP 2.8 billion against GBP 2.9 billion the year before. Global Legal Post the same day noted that £2.2 million matched the amount handed out by legacy Allen & Overy in the year before the merger, after the September 2024 10 percent cut of the then 800-strong partnership. The American Lawyer headline of 16 July 2026 confirmed PEP up about 12 percent in a year of flat revenue and a smaller partnership. FY25, the first combined year, had already printed USD 3.7 billion revenue and PEP of USD 2.6 million (GBP 2.0 million), with 33 internal promotions and 16 strategic laterals, the firm said on 21 August 2025. FY26 repeated 33 promotions and raised laterals to 24, “dominated by M&A and finance” in the Global Legal Post wrap. Promotions effective 1 May 2026 ran across 14 countries and 18 offices: 14 in continental Europe, nine in the United Kingdom, four in the United States, three in Asia Pacific, two in the Middle East, one in Africa, with M&A the largest practice, then Global Financial Markets and Antitrust.
Combination-day stock, on 1 May 2024, was nearly 4,000 lawyers including about 800 partners, combined revenues of approximately $3.5 billion, and about 7,000 people. Chambers Global 2026, on a firm-provided overview, still records nearly 4,000 lawyers, about 30 percent in the United States, 30 percent in the United Kingdom and 40 percent in other financial centers, with 301 ranked departments and 322 ranked individuals. Thirty percent of “nearly 4,000” is on the order of 1,100 to 1,300 lawyers in the US and the same order in the UK; it is not a headcount the firm published to the person. Johannesburg listed 32 lawyers when Reuters reported the office closing by the end of 2024; Above the Law the same day put staff there at about 48 and consulting at approximately another 40 employees.
Mega-deals, a nuclear RAB, and two funds statutes hire the mid-level, not the NQ.
The demand engines of 2025 and 2026 pull M&A, antitrust, debt finance, ENRI and funds seats. They do not enlarge the newly qualified class.
Volume at qualificationSpecialist laterals
- The mega-deal file Announced M&A concentrated in ten-figure transactions. The hire is a mid-to-senior M&A and antitrust lawyer, often US or cross-border, not an extra qualifier.
- The nuclear RAB file A 2022 statute that became a live ENRI mandate at final investment decision. Alliance and supply-chain contracts, not an NQ volume event.
- The funds and AI file AIFMD II live, a UK AIFM rewrite in consultation, the AI Act in general application. Funds, financial-services regulatory and privacy specialists.
LSEG, on 9 June 2026, put 2025 global announced M&A at $4.6 trillion, up 49 percent from 2024, the highest since 2021, with 68 mega deals above $10 billion, the most since records began in 1980. On 12 August 2026 it put January to July 2026 announced value at $3.19 trillion, up 36 percent year on year, across more than 28,000 transactions (down 10 percent), with 48 mega deals above $10 billion accounting for $1.29 trillion. Americas ran $1.84 trillion (US targets $1.69 trillion); European targets $773 billion, up 78 percent, the UK 35 percent of European activity; cross-border $1.05 trillion, the highest January-to-July since 2007. Technology was 23 percent of 2026 announced activity, then Industrials and Energy & Power. The hire that cycle wants is an M&A associate who can run a $10 billion-plus, often US or cross-border file — the New York M&A posting for JD years 2017 to 2021 — not an extra London NQ at £150,000.
Antitrust sits on the same files. The FTC and DOJ jointly issued the 2023 Merger Guidelines on 18 December 2023, replacing prior horizontal (2010) and vertical (2020) guidance, after more than 30,000 comments on the July 2023 draft. The European Commission published a draft rewrite of its Merger Guidelines on 30 April 2026, consultation closed 26 June 2026, finalization aimed at the fourth quarter of 2026. That is the practice label Paul, Weiss bought from this platform in September 2025. It is a partner and senior-associate demand, not an NQ volume event.
Energy is a statute that became a live mandate. The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced the Sizewell C final investment decision on 22 July 2025: construction cost around £38 billion at 2024 prices; 3.2 gigawatts; government initial 44.9 percent equity; La Caisse 20 percent, Centrica 15 percent (£1.3 billion), EDF 12.5 percent, Amber Infrastructure initially 7.6 percent; 10,000 jobs at peak construction; 1,500 apprenticeships. The legal product sits on the Nuclear Energy (Financing) Act 2022 — a regulated asset base model, revenue collection, a special administration regime, CMA appeal for allowed-revenue decisions. Ofgem is economic regulator; the Low Carbon Contracts Company is revenue-collection counterparty. A&O Shearman has advised Sizewell C on supply-chain and contracting strategy, including the civils works delivery alliance, since 2018, the firm said on 24 July 2025. That hire is a mid-to-senior ENRI and project-contracts seat. It matches the New York ENRI 5-to-7-year posting. It is not an NQ volume event.
Funds law rewrote itself in the same window. Directive (EU) 2024/927 (AIFMD II) applied from 16 April 2026, amending delegation, liquidity risk management, supervisory reporting, depositary and loan origination by alternative investment funds. The FCA opened CP26/28 on 14 July 2026 on a UK AIFM rewrite: UK asset managers oversee almost £2 trillion in alternative assets and over £16 trillion in total AUM; implementation currently envisaged 2028. That is the 1-to-2 PQE London funds posting, and it is the Weil fund-finance partner lift. The EU AI Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, reached general application on 2 August 2026 (prohibited practices from 2 February 2025; GPAI, governance and penalties from 2 August 2025; original Article 6(1) high-risk from 2 August 2027). FY25 results said the firm counselled a G20 country on its national AI strategy and rolled out agentic AI agents in April 2025. The US data-privacy head’s 2026 move sits on the same driver. Specialists, not NQs.
Two further clocks change the hire without changing the NQ table. New York Labor Law 194-b requires employers with four or more employees to list compensation ranges on advertised jobs, which is why the New York bands are on the careers page where a general counsel can read them. The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 put compulsory identity verification for new directors and persons with significant control from 18 November 2025, with limited-partnership reforms no sooner than the end of 2026, on a Companies House transition plan updated 5 August 2026. Harvey, trialled from November 2022 and announced as an enterprise partnership on 15 February 2023 (~3,500 lawyers, ~40,000 queries in the trial), can absorb some junior due-diligence hours; the firm has not published a headcount cut from it, and none is claimed here. The winter 2026-27 move of more than 1,800 people to 2 Broadgate is an operations file, not a reason the NQ salary fails to close searches.
FY26 matter values size the desks, not the market. The 16 July 2026 results listed Genmab’s USD 8 billion acquisition of Merus and a subsequent USD 6 billion refinancing; Boston Scientific’s proposed USD 15 billion acquisition of Penumbra; Texas Instruments’ USD 7.5 billion acquisition of Silicon Labs; InPost EUR 7.8 billion take-private financing; JDE Peet’s EUR 15.7 billion recommended public offer by Keurig Dr Pepper, announced 25 August 2025; and Sizewell C at GBP 38 billion. Those mandates consume M&A, debt finance and ENRI laterals. They do not open extra NQ seats.
A chief legal officer reading those matter lists as a hiring map should take the practice label, not the deal headline. Genmab, Penumbra and Silicon Labs are M&A plus debt. Sizewell C is ENRI plus construction contracting under a regulated asset base. JDE Peet’s is public M&A. The lawyer who can run those files is the lawyer on the New York 4-to-7-year postings, or the London 4-to-7 PQE global-loans seat that printed no base. The qualifier earning £150,000 is in a different year of the same firm, and the company that wants the first person will not get them by paying the second person’s number.
Write the seniority and the cash on the same line, or do not open the file.
Sartori has run associate search in London for more than 10 years. The files that close in 6 to 12 weeks are the files whose brief already knows which grid it is matching.
Two composites, described by category only. A UK nuclear-project company opened a deputy-GC-minus-one projects seat at London NQ cash for a 5-to-7-year ENRI lawyer. The first shortlist came back empty of people who would move. The general counsel reopened against the New York ENRI band. The file closed in week 11 of the 6-to-12-week window. A Paris-listed alternative-asset manager opened an associate general counsel funds seat at 4 to 6 PQE, priced from the New York debt-finance floor, took a firm-side counter, and had a signed offer in 12 working days. Neither client is named. Both sit inside the 18 company-side files on the 33-search book.
If you are the general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal matching this inventory, the posted NQ number is the wrong instrument for the seat you cannot fill.
- Name the seniority first. Four to seven years of loans, funds, M&A or project finance is a different market from a newly qualified class the firm is already retaining at 76 and 77 percent.
- Open against the printed New York band. Labor Law 194-b put $365,000 to $435,000 on the debt-finance posting. That is the comparable, not £150,000.
- Budget the counter. London associate counter-offer incidence is 35 percent. A firm defending a 4-to-7-year finance lawyer will use the posted band and the bonus gate, not the NQ table.
- Decide the credential before the shortlist. England & Wales qualified, or JD plus New York bar. Mixing them produces a role nobody can start.
- Hold one specialist in-house. The rest of the work can stay on a panel. The seat that signs Sizewell-cycle contracts, AIFMD II re-papering or a $10 billion merger-control file generally cannot.
If you earn the 2026 figure, two grids apply, and only one of them is printed for your office.
- London NQ is a published base. £150,000, still listed. Trainee £56,000 and £61,000. Hours target 1,750 for qualified lawyers. Bonus cash is not public; an unpublished mid-PQE table is not this firm’s scale.
- New York is a posted envelope plus a gate. $225,000 to $435,000 by JD year, discretionary bonus, 2,000 hours for year-end. The 2024 and 2025 matches paid $15,000 to $115,000 year-end on that gate.
- Average PEP is not your drawing. USD 2.9 million for FY26 is a partnership average after a 10 percent trim. Individual drawings are not public.
- The in-house move is a title change. GC, deputy GC, associate GC, head of legal. It is rarely an NQ-year move, and it will not match New York total cash if the company opens at the London NQ table.
- Explore on a no-names basis. The in-house counsel recruiting desk and the London legal recruiters page are the company-side doors; the candidate door is a CV, not a published drawing.
The service view of this book sits on our in-house counsel recruiting page and, for companies building a legal function rather than adding a specialist seat, on the first general counsel guide. UK NQ retention as a market, rather than this firm’s scale, lives on why NQ pay attracts but does not retain. None of those pages reprints the tables above.
Match the posted New York range, not the London NQ table.
Common questions about A&O Shearman pay in 2026
What is the A&O Shearman salary for a newly qualified solicitor in 2026?
London newly qualified base is £150,000, the figure Legal Cheek still listed in 2026 after the 1 May 2024 raise. Trainee bases on the same firm card are £56,000 in year one and £61,000 in year two. No subsequent public 2026 London NQ raise was found, and the firm has not published a UK lockstep for years 1 to 8 PQE or a London NQ bonus cash figure. New York is a different grid, posted by JD year on the careers site.
What does A&O Shearman pay New York associates in 2026?
New York careers pages accessed in 2026 post $225,000 to $435,000 by JD year, plus a discretionary bonus. An M&A seat prints that full envelope; a 4-to-7-year debt-finance seat prints $365,000 to $435,000; a 5-to-7-year ENRI project-finance seat prints $365,000 to $420,000; a private-client seat for JD years 2022 to 2023 prints $260,000 to $310,000. Those ranges exist on the page because New York Labor Law 194-b requires them. They are not a confirmed 2026 raise of the December 2023 class-year table.
What was A&O Shearman PEP for the year ended 30 April 2026?
Profit per equity partner was USD 2.9 million, up 12 percent, on flat USD 3.7 billion revenue, the firm said on 16 July 2026. Profit before tax was USD 1.6 billion, up 14 percent, and revenue per partner rose 11.3 percent. The year before, the first combined year, PEP was USD 2.6 million on the same dollar revenue. Individual partner drawings other than that average are not public.
Will matching the London NQ number fill a 4-to-7-year finance seat?
No. Live 2026 vacancies at that seniority sit on New York bands of $365,000 to $435,000, not on the London NQ table. The NQ class is not empty. The general counsel who copies £150,000 onto a 5-to-7-year ENRI or debt-finance brief is matching a 2024 Magic Circle NQ number against a Cravath-range mid-level seat plus a 2,000-hour Americas bonus.
Who hires A&O Shearman lawyers into company legal departments?
One Paris-listed alternative-asset manager with EUR 51 billion AUM employs three alumni in GC, deputy GC and associate GC seats. That is the firm’s own December 2025 alumni yearbook, not a job-board scrape. The titles companies actually use are general counsel, deputy general counsel, associate general counsel, head of investment and corporate legal, and global head of legal and regulatory compliance. NQ conversion is a firm-side filter; the in-house hire is later, and it is a specialist seat, not a newly qualified class.
How long does Sartori take to fill a London associate seat for a company?
Sartori’s London associate desk typically fills in 6 to 12 weeks, with a median 12 working days from offer to signature. That desk has worked the city for more than 10 years, closed 33 associate searches over the trailing three years at a 93 percent completion rate, and records a 35 percent counter-offer incidence. Mid-senior finance and energy laterals run to the long end of that window when the brief opens at NQ cash.
Firm announcements, careers pages, statutes and the published grids.
London NQ and trainee bases come from Legal Cheek, the Law Gazette and Bloomberg Law. US associate ranges come from the employer’s own careers pages. PEP, revenue and promotions come from the firm’s FY25 and FY26 results. Bonus grids come from Above the Law’s 2024 and 2025 trackers.

London NQ and trainee bases are firm-reported figures as compiled by Legal Cheek, still listed in 2026. US associate ranges are employer-published pay-transparency bands on careers.aoshearman.com, accessed 2026. US class-year bases are the December 2023 scale reported by Above the Law; no 2026 raise of that US base was found on the careers pages. PEP, revenue, promotion and lateral counts are from the firm’s FY25 and FY26 results. NQ retention counts are Legal Cheek and The Lawyer, round by round. LSEG dollar volumes are announced M&A value, not this firm’s revenue. Average PEP is not an individual drawing.
Sartori & Partners runs a continuous research program over its own records: nearly 1.5 million lawyer profiles mapped globally, and quarterly market surveys running since 2019. The London interview cohort, the mandate telemetry, the counter-offer incidence and the offer-to-acceptance window quoted above come from that program, set out on our research page and in the methodology.
