Law firm associate and NQ salary in Singapore, 2026.
Two locksteps share one island. A top-local first-year clears more than SGD 100,000; the US peg that dual-track seats price against is USD 235,000. The rest of the page is what CPF and resident tax leave of each dollar, for the associate who earns it and the desk that pays it.
Two locksteps, one island.
Singapore prices two 2026 associate locksteps in the same city. Across 250 structured interviews with Singapore associates and counsel, both the lawyer who earns law firm associate salary Singapore and the desk that pays it now ask what the Singapore dollar still buys after CPF and tax.
The Coordinating Minister, speaking at NUS Law on 26 July 2026, put top performers who become junior partners after six to eight years at about SGD 200,000 to SGD 300,000 a year. That is a domestic partnership band, not a US eighth-year base. Two ladders. One city.
Four ways to read the same 2026 cash. The dated table in the next section is the perimeter; CPF, tax and the thinner NQ class decide what it still buys. Ministerial cash, Federal Reserve FX, CPF and IRAS.

What law firm associate salary Singapore actually buys.
Local currency and US dollars in one table, for the associate who earns the 2026 figure and the firm or company that pays it. Every row is a public cash anchor plus the Federal Reserve print of 4 September 2026.
The table below is the 2026 perimeter. It is not a firm-by-firm lockstep. The Coordinating Minister’s first-year figure is a public band for a top local firm; the US column is the Cravath-scale first-year base that dual-track Singapore seats price against, converted at the Federal Reserve H.10 noon buying rate of 1.2665 Singapore dollars per US dollar on 4 September 2026. Graduate medians sit under the qualified first-year band because many respondents are still in a training year.

NUS LLB GES 2024 median, annualized
SGD 7,000 a month for NUS LLB fresh graduates in full-time permanent employment. Trainee-year cash for many respondents.
Universities.sg / GES 2024, processed 6 July 2026 ↗Read the axis from left to right as a career year, not as a raise. The GES median of SGD 7,000 a month (Universities.sg, GES 2024, processed 6 July 2026) is trainee-inclusive. The Manpower Ministry’s 2025 survey of graduates aged 22 to 28 put law at SGD 7,500 a month, the highest median in a field mix that included information technology, engineering and business, and one of only two fields where new hires made more than they expected (Channel NewsAsia, 15 May 2026). The ministerial first-year band sits above both, because it is qualified-lawyer cash at a top local firm, not a graduate-cohort median. The US peg is a different product: it is the 2026 class-year base on the US BigLaw associate salary scale, not a Singapore firm announcement.
Of 72 associates sitting in domestic Big Four or Qualifying Foreign Law Practice seats inside Sartori’s Singapore interview cohort, over a 24-month window, 58 percent said the first-year conversation now opens on Singapore-dollar cash versus the US peg, not on bonus. That is a cohort read, not a published scale. The same cohort is the 250 structured interviews named above.
Two locksteps, one island.
Three desks write the check. Only two pay the NQ lockstep.
The associate title is a law-firm product. Companies buy laterals out of it. Public service competes for the same junior cohort under a different name.
Local lockstepUS-pegged dual-track
- Domestic SLP Singapore law without a QFLP license. The ministerial “top local firm” lives here. Cash is a local lockstep, unpublished as a class-year table.
- QFLP and licensed FLP Permitted Singapore law through Singapore-qualified lawyers or foreign practitioner certificates. Dual-track cash is negotiated toward the US peg, not posted as one.
- In-house exit Legal counsel and senior legal counsel at banks, funds, traders and MNC regional headquarters. They buy 3 to 7 PQE, not the NQ lockstep.
Market usage treats Allen & Gledhill, Rajah & Tann, WongPartnership and Drew & Napier as the domestic full-service four. Wikipedia’s 2025 size table, citing ALB Asia Top 50 2024, put associate seats at those four offices at 304, 191, 236 and 146 respectively — roughly 800 to 900 associate seats on that 2024 snapshot, a size band rather than a 2026 census. The Legal 500 Singapore leading-rankings page lists the same four among its leading-rankings performers, together with Qualifying Foreign Law Practice and international names (Legal 500, accessed 11 September 2026). These firms practice Singapore law without a QFLP license. They are who the Coordinating Minister meant by a top local firm on 26 July 2026.
The Ministry of Law, on 16 October 2025, named the nine Qualifying Foreign Law Practices: Allen Overy Sherman Sterling; Clifford Chance; Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher; Latham & Watkins; Jones Day; Linklaters; Norton Rose Fulbright; Sidley Austin; White & Case. A QFLP license lets a foreign law practice practice permitted Singapore law except in domestic litigation and general practice. Combined Singapore-office headcount at the date of the release was over 550 lawyers, more than 40 percent of them Singapore-qualified. That is the employer type most likely to price associate cash toward the US lockstep, and the type that hires both Singapore newly qualified lawyers and registered foreign lawyers.
Around them sit the rest of the international desk. The Law Gazette Mass Call Magazine 2026 counted 141 Foreign Law Practices as of January 2026, up from 74 in 2020, and 1,418 foreign lawyers registered with the Legal Services Regulatory Authority, 18.15 percent of registered lawyers. The Committee to Review the Regulatory Framework, reporting in October 2025, put the stock at around 150 FLPs and 1,400 foreign lawyers against about 70 and 300 in 1999, with nine licensed Joint Law Ventures and ten Formal Law Alliances as at 7 August 2025. At least four Formal Law Alliances offer dual Singapore and UK training. A Singapore-qualified newly qualified lawyer can sit in a Singapore law practice, a QFLP, a joint venture or a dual-qualification program. The cash track follows the license, not the passport.
In-house is the principal alternative buyer of the mid-level associate, not the buyer of the NQ lockstep. The Coordinating Minister put in-house counsel at about 4,800 on 26 July 2026, a one-third increase since 2015 (The Straits Times). The Law Minister, on 6 March 2026, said Singapore-qualified in-house counsel had more than doubled in ten years and that they support the growth of multinational companies, which have grown to more than 7,000 located in Singapore. Channel NewsAsia noted on 15 May 2026 that the Law Society does not track practicing lawyers who move in-house, because a practicing certificate is not required for in-house counsel. Titles on that desk are legal counsel, senior legal counsel and deputy general counsel. A head of legal at a commodities regional headquarters, speaking in the same Sartori cohort over a 24-month window, told us they price a four-year PQE lateral off the top-local associate band, not off the US peg. That is the company-side read of this figure: you are not hiring an associate. You are hiring someone who just stopped being one.
Public service competes for the same junior cohort under a different title. The Attorney-General’s Chambers careers page, last updated 1 March 2026, hires Legal Service Officers into Civil, Crime, International Affairs and Legislation Divisions and asks for at least two years of post-qualification experience and a law degree from the National University of Singapore or scheduled universities. Applications go through the Legal Service Commission. The Coordinating Minister said on 26 July 2026 that the legal service and the judicial service pay competitively so that they can attract talent. The Singapore Academy of Law counted 841 Legal Service and Judicial Officers among its members as at 1 October 2025. These seats do not use the title associate. They still bid against the NQ lockstep for the same people.
| Desk | Titles on the seat | Pays the NQ lockstep? | Cash shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic full-service SLP (Big Four and next band) | Practice trainee, NQ, associate, senior associate | Yes — the “top local firm” in the ministerial first-year band | Local lockstep; not a published US peg |
| Qualifying Foreign Law Practice (nine licensees) | NQ and mid-level associate; registered foreign lawyer | Yes, Singapore-qualified and foreign-registered | Dual-track; can price toward the US lockstep, unpublished |
| Other Foreign Law Practice, JLV or FLA | Associate; registered foreign lawyer; some dual-qualification trainees | Sometimes; composition rules still live under current licenses | International associate cash, often below QFLP dual-track |
| In-house at bank, fund, commodities trader or MNC HQ | Legal counsel, senior legal counsel, deputy GC | No — buys 3–7 PQE laterals out of the associate figure | Total cash plus bonus; no lockstep |
| Legal Service / Attorney-General’s Chambers | Legal Service Officer; State Counsel; DPP | No — AGC asks for two years’ PQE | Public-service scale; Coordinating Minister: competitive with private practice |
Headline cash is not take-home, and the ceiling is why.
A citizen NQ on the local first-year band and a citizen on dual-track cash surrender the same Ordinary Wage CPF dollar. The extra cash is a tax question. An Employment Pass holder skips CPF entirely.
Headline cashWhat clears
- Named cash The ministerial band, the graduate median, or the US class-year base, in the currency the source used.
- Ordinary Wage CPF A ceiling, not a percentage of the whole package. Once monthly Ordinary Wages clear the cap, more cash does not attract more Ordinary Wage CPF.
- Resident tax Progressive bands from year of assessment 2024. Dual-track cash climbs into the 15 to 20 percent steps; local NQ cash mostly does not.
CPF Board employer tables in force from 1 January 2026 set contributions for Singapore citizens and third-year-and-beyond permanent residents, aged 55 and below, with monthly wages above SGD 750, at 17 percent employer, 20 percent employee, 37 percent combined. The Ordinary Wage ceiling rose from SGD 7,400 in 2025 to SGD 8,000 in 2026. On a SGD 8,000 monthly Ordinary Wage, employee CPF is SGD 1,600 a month, or SGD 19,200 a year, and employer CPF is SGD 1,360 a month, or SGD 16,320 a year. A local newly qualified lawyer on more than SGD 100,000 a year is already at that ceiling. A dual-track associate on SGD 297,628 is also at that ceiling. They surrender the same Ordinary Wage CPF dollar. The extra cash is almost entirely post-CPF.
Resident income tax is the second withhold. IRAS resident progressive rates from year of assessment 2024, unchanged into the year of assessment 2026 calculators, run from 0 percent on the first SGD 20,000 of chargeable income to 24 percent above SGD 1,000,000. Illustrative, with no reliefs and chargeable income equal to cash: SGD 100,000 produces about SGD 5,650 of tax, an effective 5.7 percent; SGD 297,628 produces about SGD 40,076, an effective 13.5 percent (Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, accessed 11 September 2026). Non-resident employment income is taxed at 15 percent flat or at resident rates, whichever yields more tax. US federal-plus-state tax on USD 235,000 is a different perimeter and is not modeled here. The Singapore newly qualified lawyer’s cash buys more after-tax dollars per headline dollar than the US headline implies, and the dual-track associate’s extra cash is taxed inside the 15 to 20 percent resident steps rather than at US ordinary-income rates.
Foreign associates sit outside CPF. The Ministry of Manpower Employment Pass qualifying salary, on a page last updated 28 April 2026, is SGD 5,600 a month at age 23 or below in all sectors except financial services, and SGD 6,200 in financial services, rising with age. A top-local newly qualified lawyer above SGD 100,000 a year, about SGD 8,300 a month, already clears the current floor. A US-pegged first-year at SGD 297,628, about SGD 24,800 a month, clears the COMPASS salary exemption of SGD 22,500 fixed monthly. From 1 January 2027, new applications step to SGD 6,000 and SGD 6,600 at age 23 or below. QFLP and foreign-law-practice hiring of foreign newly qualified lawyers stays viable at lockstep cash; bargain foreign juniors get harder. The all-in cost of a citizen associate is cash plus 17 percent employer CPF on Ordinary Wages up to the ceiling, plus Additional Wage CPF. The all-in cost of an Employment Pass associate is cash plus levy and COMPASS friction, and no CPF. That relative-cost wedge is why a Qualifying Foreign Law Practice can pay toward the US lockstep in Singapore dollars without matching a US benefits load.
The extra cash is almost entirely post-CPF.
The 2026 work that supports the cash, and the class that can take it.
Megadeals, a reopened equity window and a still-international arbitration docket support mid-level cash. A 12-month training gate and a thinner Bar call constrain who can be paid the NQ figure.
Demand is not a hiring anecdote. Mergermarket, published by ION Analytics on 10 August 2026, put Singapore-involved mergers and acquisitions at USD 33 billion across 165 deals in the first half of 2026, nearly double USD 16.7 billion a year earlier. The largest regional check was Singapore Technologies’ USD 9 billion sale of a 71.14 percent stake in STT GDC to Singapore Telecommunications and KKR. That is M&A, projects and digital-infrastructure legal demand, and it is mid-level work: four-to-seven-year PQE associates at Singapore law practices and Qualifying Foreign Law Practices, not a volume NQ factory. Law.com International, on 24 November 2025, recorded more than 320 lateral partner moves between Asia-based and international firms over five years, with corporate, disputes and projects the most active labels and international firms especially busy in 2024. Partner flow is a demand proxy, not an associate census. It tells you which practice labels still have a book worth staffing.
Capital-markets seats that sat idle through 2022 to 2024 reopened. The Monetary Authority of Singapore announced the Equity Market Development Programme in February 2025 at SGD 5 billion and expanded it to SGD 6.5 billion on 12 February 2026, with SGD 3.95 billion allocated across nine appointed asset managers and a further batch around mid-2026. Channel NewsAsia, on 7 September 2026, reported that the Singapore Exchange was on track for close to 30 listings in 2026 after a record year for IPO proceeds in 2025; 2024 had four IPOs, the lowest in over a decade; the first half of 2026 saw five companies raise USD 868 million. Dual-listing laws for SGX and Nasdaq passed in May. ECM and corporate associates at Singapore law practices and Qualifying Foreign Law Practices who staff IPOs, REITs and dual listings are in a 2025 to 2027 window. That is two-to-six-year PQE cash, sitting between the local lockstep and the dual-track peg.
Disputes remains a 2026 hiring label. The Law Gazette Mass Call Magazine 2026 recorded SIAC cases growing from 343 in 2016 to 625 in 2024, 90.56 percent of them international, with Singapore sharing the top Queen Mary University of London / White & Case seat ranking with London in 2021 and again in 2025. SIAC Rules 2025 have been in force since 1 January 2025. The Singapore International Commercial Court grew from 2 cases in 2015 to 28 in 2024, and 2024 was the first year originating filings (18) exceeded transfers (10). Its foreign-lawyer register listed 142 registered foreign lawyers and one registered law expert as at 2 September 2026. The Ministry of Law signed a letter of intent with ICSID on 25 August 2025 for ICSID’s first staffed office outside Washington, D.C., at 10 Marina Boulevard, with a satellite at Maxwell Chambers Suites; ICLG’s Singapore 2026 chapter, published 13 January 2026, recorded that the Permanent Court of Arbitration announced an expansion of its Singapore office a month later. Those institutions hire a thin specialist bench. The associate demand they create sits at Singapore law firms and Qualifying Foreign Law Practices that appear as counsel on SIAC, SICC and investor-state files, usually at three-plus PQE.
Supply is the constraint on who can be paid the NQ figure. The Legal Profession (Amendment) Act 2023, first read on 3 October 2023, decoupled Bar admission from the training contract, lengthened practice training from six months to one year, created a Provisional Practising Certificate after six months, allowed up to three months of training at approved in-house legal departments, and introduced the Lawyer (Non-Practitioner) category — admitted after Part B without training, with no right to practice. Implementation was deferred to the 2024 Part B session. Channel NewsAsia, on 15 May 2026, reported that from 2025 the traineeship is 12 months, and that January to November 2025 produced only 155 Bar admissions against 448 Lawyer (Non-Practitioner) admissions. Wikipedia, citing parliamentary debate on the 2023 amendments, puts trainee honoraria typically at SGD 1,000 to 2,500 a month. Doubling training to 12 months doubles the cumulative honorarium. The Ministry of Law acknowledged the cost, especially for smaller firms. The 12-month gate is an employer-side constraint on NQ supply, not a salary scale.
Retention is the other supply number, and it is not a collapse. Between 2015 and 2024, about six in ten lawyers remained in practice in law firms after five years, and four in ten after ten years, a rate the Coordinating Minister described as stable on 26 July 2026 (The Straits Times, citing the parliamentary record). A Singapore Academy of Law poll of 289 newly qualified lawyers, reported by Channel NewsAsia on 15 May 2026, found 85 respondents (29 percent) selected “move out of the profession entirely” as one option, but only 8 (under 3 percent) selected it as their sole option. The Law Society Legal Profession Sustainability Study, a four-year project of 855 qualitative interviews released on 23 June 2026, found 55.2 percent of respondents rated physical health fair to very poor and two-thirds reported depression symptoms at mild or higher levels (AsiaOne, 27 June 2026). Administrative attrition stayed stable. Subjective health did not. Firms that cannot show sustainable hours will lose newly qualified lawyers to the 4,800-strong in-house desk regardless of cash.
Two 2026 overlays sit on top of cash rather than replacing it. The Law Minister, in the 6 March 2026 Next Charter speech, said up to 44 percent of legal tasks can be automated by AI, launched Legal Innovation and Future-Readiness Transformation to fund change-management rather than licenses alone, and issued a guide for using generative AI in the legal sector. The Chief Justice, in the Mass Call Magazine 2026 foreword, warned of a hollowing out of the junior ranks if AI takes the work by which juniors learn. There is no measured series, on any page, showing that AI has already reduced Singapore NQ headcount. The 2026 classes are still being hired. The task mix inside those seats is the 2026 to 2028 variable. Separately, the Legal Profession (Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism) (Amendment) Rules 2025 took effect on 1 July 2025, with a FATF on-site visit of Singapore in 2025 flagged on the Law Society AML page. That is a reason banking and finance associates remain a premium label, not a headcount engine of its own.
Write the cash track before you open the file.
Sartori has worked the Singapore associate market for 8 years. Over the trailing three years we closed 23 associate searches at a 93 percent completion rate, on a typical timeline of 6 to 12 weeks. The files that ran long were the ones where nobody had decided which lockstep the seat sat on.
Already liveThe first date that can shrink dual-track seats
- Twelve-month training Binding for 2025 and 2026 cohorts. The practicing NQ class is the residue after the Lawyer (Non-Practitioner) overflow.
- QFLP two-year bridge Licenses in force through the current cash year. Dual-track NQ and mid-level seats remain able to practice permitted Singapore law.
- Twenty twenty-seven renewal The next formal QFLP renewal, and the first date a tightened offshore-revenue test could reprice the dual-track cohort.
Of 23 closed Singapore associate searches over three years, 14 were mid-level seats at years 3 to 6 in corporate and M&A, disputes or projects; 9 were newly qualified or 1 to 2 PQE. That mix tracks the demand print: megadeals and a reopened equity window pull on four-to-seven-year PQE, while the NQ lockstep is a thinner, more calendar-bound market after the 12-month training gate. Counter-offer incidence on the same closed book is 37 percent. Median offer-to-acceptance is 10 working days. Completion is 93 percent.
The finding that does not flatter the method: of those 9 newly qualified or 1 to 2 PQE files, 4 ran past 12 weeks because the hiring firm had not decided whether the seat was local lockstep or dual-track. Sartori’s process cannot outrun an unspecified pay track. A practice head at a Qualifying Foreign Law Practice, speaking in the same interview cohort over a 24-month window, told us they will match toward Cravath for a dual-qualified banking associate and will not put the number on a circular. Opacity is the product. It is also why a search brief that says “competitive for Singapore” produces a shortlist that cannot accept.
Of 41 hiring-side respondents inside the same cohort — practice heads at Singapore law practices and Qualifying Foreign Law Practices, and heads of legal at multinational regional headquarters — over that 24-month window, 29 named mid-level years 4 to 7 in corporate and M&A or disputes as the seat they cannot fill at the cash they had already posted. The scarce band is not the NQ lockstep. It is the associate who has survived the 12-month training gate, done two or three years of deal or docket work, and is now looking at the in-house exit. Hong Kong is the neighboring geo that associate will name as the alternative US-firm lockstep; this page does not price that market.
If you are a managing partner, a practice head, a general counsel or a head of legal writing a 2026 associate or counsel requisition, the cash track is the brief.
- Name the lockstep in the brief. Local first-year, dual-track toward the US peg, or in-house total cash. A search that starts without that sentence starts without a market.
- Budget the counter-offer. Our Singapore associate counter-offer incidence is 37 percent. Domestic full-service firms defend NQ cash because the 12-month training pipeline is now an employer cost they have already sunk.
- Do not post an NQ lockstep for a four-year seat. The scarce band in the 24-month hiring-side cut is years 4 to 7. Pricing it as a first-year wastes a quarter.
- In-house buyers should price off the local band. A general counsel hiring a four-year PQE lateral out of a top local firm is not matching USD 235,000. They are matching what that lawyer actually takes home after CPF and tax, plus the hours they are leaving.
- Watch 2027 if you staff a QFLP mix. The two-year license bridge holds dual-track seats open. A composition cap, if adopted, changes who you can hire, not only what you pay.
If you are a Singapore associate or newly qualified lawyer reading the 2026 figure, convert it before you compare it.
- Ask which lockstep you are on. A local first-year above SGD 100,000 and a dual-track first-year toward USD 235,000 are different products. Bonus language will not tell you which one you have.
- Do the CPF arithmetic yourself. If you are a citizen or a third-year permanent resident, Ordinary Wage CPF caps at the same dollar on both locksteps. The extra cash is tax, not CPF.
- The in-house exit is a different buyer. Legal counsel seats at banks, funds and MNC regional headquarters buy 3 to 7 PQE. They do not pay the NQ lockstep, and they do not need a practicing certificate.
- A thinner Bar call is leverage only in practicing seats. 155 calls against 448 Lawyer (Non-Practitioner) admissions is a constraint on firms that need an advocate and solicitor, not on employers who will take a Lawyer (Non-Practitioner).
- Do not resign into an unspecified track. Of the junior files we closed, the slow ones were slow because the employer had not named the cash. If they cannot name it, you cannot accept it in 10 working days.
Three anonymized composites from the same closed book, described by tier and type only. A domestic full-service corporate group hired a newly qualified associate onto the local first-year band, above SGD 100,000, in 8 weeks; the complication was a training-contract calendar that had already absorbed the 12-month gate, not the cash. A Qualifying Foreign Law Practice banking seat at 3 PQE was briefed as dual-track toward the US peg; the incumbent’s employer counter-offered, consistent with the 37 percent incidence on this desk, and the file still completed inside 12 weeks once the cash track was in writing. A multinational regional headquarters in commodities hired a 4 PQE legal counsel out of a top local disputes seat; the company priced off the local associate band, not the US peg, and the lawyer’s question was hours and scope, not the headline dollar. None of those files named a real firm, company or candidate.
Sartori maps about 6,000 lawyers in Singapore as a coverage exercise across the island’s practicing and in-house desks. The service view of the associate book sits on our associate recruiting page. Companies taking a 3 to 7 PQE lawyer out of these seats should start from the in-house counsel salary page for Singapore and, where the seat is the first in-house lawyer, from the first general counsel guide. The city-wide market map, as opposed to this cash perimeter, is the Singapore legal market briefing.
Common questions about 2026 Singapore associate cash
What is law firm associate salary Singapore in 2026?
Two locksteps: more than SGD 100,000 at a top local firm, and USD 235,000 on the US first-year peg (SGD 297,628 at the 4 September 2026 Federal Reserve noon rate). The Coordinating Minister stated the local first-year band at NUS Law on 26 July 2026, as reported by The Straits Times; the US figure is the 2026 Cravath-scale first-year base on Biglaw Investor’s Y2026 table. No Singapore Qualifying Foreign Law Practice published its own associate scale on a employer page. What the Singapore dollar still buys of either number, after CPF and resident tax, is the rest of this page.
What does a Singapore NQ take home after CPF and tax?
On SGD 100,000, a citizen NQ owes about SGD 5,650 of resident tax and SGD 19,200 of employee CPF at the 2026 Ordinary Wage ceiling. IRAS resident rates from year of assessment 2024 put tax on SGD 100,000 of chargeable income at SGD 5,650 if no reliefs are claimed (Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, accessed 2026). CPF Board tables in force from 1 January 2026 cap Ordinary Wage contributions at 20 percent employee / 17 percent employer on SGD 8,000 a month, so a dual-track associate on SGD 297,628 surrenders the same Ordinary Wage CPF dollar. Foreign Employment Pass holders pay no CPF.
Do Singapore QFLP firms pay the US Cravath scale?
No QFLP published a 2026 associate scale on a page. Nine QFLPs employed over 550 lawyers as of 16 October 2025, more than 40 percent of them Singapore-qualified (Ministry of Law). That is the buyer cohort that can, in principle, price toward USD 235,000. Licenses run from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027 while the government studies a committee report that would add an offshore-revenue floor and revisit Singapore-lawyer caps. Until a firm circular exists, treat dual-track cash as a negotiated match, not a published ladder.
Who pays associate cash in Singapore — firms or companies?
Three desks: domestic Singapore law practices, nine Qualifying Foreign Law Practices plus other foreign firms, and in-house teams that hire laterals out of those seats. The NQ lockstep itself is a law-firm product. The Coordinating Minister put in-house counsel at about 4,800 on 26 July 2026; the Singapore Academy of Law counted 3,057 in-house members as at 1 October 2025. A general counsel at a bank, fund or MNC regional headquarters typically buys a 3–7 PQE lawyer leaving private practice, not a newly qualified associate. The Attorney-General’s Chambers asks for two years of post-qualification experience and does not use the title associate.
How long does a Singapore associate search take?
Sartori’s Singapore associate desk works to 6 to 12 weeks, with a 93 percent completion rate across 23 closed searches in three years. Median offer-to-acceptance is 10 working days; counter-offer incidence is 37 percent. Of 9 newly qualified or 1–2 PQE files inside that closed book, 4 ran past 12 weeks because the client had not decided whether the seat was local lockstep or dual-track. Write the cash track into the brief before the first call.
Why is the 2026 NQ class thinner than 2023 and 2024?
January to November 2025 saw 155 Bar admissions after practice training doubled to 12 months, against 448 Lawyer (Non-Practitioner) admissions (Channel NewsAsia, 15 May 2026, citing Law Society figures). The 2023 and 2024 calls were 569 and 593. The Legal Profession (Amendment) Act 2023, first read on 3 October 2023 and live from the 2024 Part B session, decoupled admission from the training contract and created the Lawyer (Non-Practitioner) category. Firms that pay the top-local or dual-track NQ figure are bidding for a smaller practicing cohort.
Ministerial cash, Federal Reserve FX, CPF and IRAS rates.
The two locksteps come from a ministerial statement and a US class-year table. Conversions use a New York noon rate. CPF and tax use the Board and IRAS instruments in force. Firm-level Singapore associate scales that were not on a employer page are absent.

Cash figures are headline annual amounts in the currency the source named. SGD/USD conversions use the Federal Reserve H.10 noon buying rate of 1.2665 on 4 September 2026. CPF amounts are Ordinary Wage contributions at the 2026 ceiling for citizens and third-year permanent residents aged 55 and below; Additional Wage rules are not modeled. Tax illustrations assume chargeable income equals cash with no reliefs. The ministerial first-year figure is a public band, not a firm lockstep. ALB-derived headcounts are a 2024 size band. No Singapore Magic Circle or QFLP associate scale was published on a employer page. SIAC's 2025 annual-report caseload was not on a page and is omitted.
