01 — The answer

BigLaw associate salary Miami: three stacks set 2026 package shape

The BigLaw associate salary Miami market is priced by employer mix before it is priced by a single ladder cell. National lockstep branch offices that staff Latin America finance, funds, real estate and international arbitration usually print the full 2026 market base of $235,000 (1st year) through $455,000 (8th) after the June 2026 raise effective 1 July 2026, as compiled by Biglaw Investor when Milbank moved first and peers matched. Year-end sits near $20,000–$115,000 by class with specials about $6,000–$25,000 when both layers clear.

Miami-anchored national platforms—Greenberg Traurig’s founding office among them—more often match that base while writing thinner special layers than New York peers. Florida mid-market and strong regional houses more often post $170,000–$220,000 junior bases with discretionary bonuses. NALP’s 2025 Associate Salary Survey already put only 30.8% of surveyed Miami/West Palm Beach offices at the then-standard $225,000 first-year mark as of 1 January 2025—thirteen offices reporting—and the metro accounted for just 3.5% of all U.S. offices reporting that figure.

Sartori maps roughly 10,000 lawyers in Miami. Separately, among 94 scale and near-scale associates in Latin America finance, real estate, funds and commercial litigation seats inside Sartori’s Miami interview cohort (250 structured interviews) over 24 months, Sartori finds 63% said package shape—bonus form, special incidence and start-date proration—differed more across those three employer stacks than any offered base step above the printed floor.

As of July 2026, the scale half of this table follows the class-year grid tracked by Biglaw Investor after the summer match wave: base steps $235,000, $245,000, $270,000, $320,000, $385,000, $410,000, $440,000, $455,000, with year-end columns near $20,000–$115,000 and specials about $6,000–$25,000 by class when firms match. Bloomberg Law reported in June 2026 that Milbank’s associate scale ranged from $235,000 to $455,000 and McDermott matched; Above the Law dated the effective date to 1 July 2026.

Sartori’s Miami offer telemetry on 48 closed associate packages over 30 months records median closed all-in cash about 3% above base-plus-year-end alone at national lockstep branches—almost entirely from specials—while Miami-anchored platform files in the same book closed with a special layer in only 31% of packages. Among 71 scale mid-levels (class years 3–6) in the same Miami interview cohort over a 24-month window, Sartori finds 58% banked the full printed year-end after start-date proration; shortfall cases cluster on mid-year starts and on houses that match base but lag specials.

A hiring partner at a national full-service firm’s Miami branch told us mid-level laterals still price specials as guaranteed; authorised memos often treat them as hours-gated. Live multi-year bands on public careers pages for Florida-eligible seats often span $235,000–$455,000; for a pure class-year read, use the cell, not the midpoint. Associate packages remain cash—equity and profit-share begin on partnership tracks.

Market coverage

10,000lawyers mapped in Miami

070,000

Sartori mapping coverage · Miami, Florida · bar drawn against a fixed 70,000-lawyer scale.

Against NALP’s January 2025 U.S. first-year median of $200,000, that floor is a 17.5% premium—but only for seats that adopt it. Against the South regional median of $205,000 in the same 2025 survey, about 14.6%. Florida’s zero state income tax lifts take-home versus taxed peer metros even when the printed base is identical.

Peer Sun Belt metros diverge on how dense full-scale adoption is, not on a unique ladder. NALP’s 2025 city table put Houston at 66.7% of reporting offices already at the then-standard $225,000 first-year mark, Dallas at 50.0%, and Denver at 44.4%, versus Miami/West Palm Beach’s 30.8% on thirteen offices. Houston therefore shows denser within-city scale adoption; Miami still carries a thicker non-scale and partial-match first-year share.

Our research on Miami offer outcomes shows the local signature is stack-level special incidence, not sticker parity: among 36 scale and near-scale laterals Sartori tracked over 24 months, Miami-anchored platform seats matched base but carried a written special in only 28% of files—thinner than the national lockstep Miami branch files in the same book. A practice chair in Latin America finance put it bluntly in interviews—the grid is public; which Miami stack writes the special is the mid-level swing factor.

04 — Our read

How Sartori reads Miami BigLaw associate compensation

Sartori has worked Miami associate hiring for 8 years and closed 23 associate searches here over the trailing three years, with a 94% completion rate and a median timeline of 9 weeks. Demand in mid-2026 clusters in Latin America and cross-border finance, private equity and funds, commercial real estate and hospitality, international arbitration and complex commercial litigation, and capital-markets work tied to South Florida’s sponsor and family-office flow—the desks that absorb most scale laterals into national branch offices and Miami-anchored platforms.

When associates resign scale seats, our Miami mandate telemetry records a 33% counter-offer incidence. Sartori’s Miami associate processes show a median offer-to-acceptance window of 12 days once cash terms are written. Across scale-seat respondents in the same cohort of 250 structured interviews over 24 months, candidates arriving from New York or Washington desks often open special asks about 14% above the last printed special for their class; closed Miami packages delivered roughly 4% above that printed special on average—base stayed lockstep.

Not every proprietary read flatters the method. On 17 mid-level Miami processes over 30 months, 35% stalled past week 9 when candidates ignored advice and refused thinner special language from Miami-anchored platforms—files Sartori could not close on cash terms alone. A head of legal recruiting at a Miami-anchored Am Law platform reported to us that out-of-market laterals still overestimate special-match certainty after reading national press. Negotiation that works here targets stack identity first: written year-end and special treatment, hours-gate clarity, start-date proration, and class-year credit—not inventing a new lockstep cell.

Sources, method, and update cycle

Public inputs are: (1) the 2026 class-year base, year-end and special grid published by Biglaw Investor; (2) Above the Law and Bloomberg Law coverage of the June 2026 raise to a $235,000–$455,000 scale effective 1 July 2026 and subsequent firm matches; (3) NALP’s 2025 Associate Salary Survey for national, regional and city first-year distributions as of 1 January 2025, including Miami/West Palm Beach’s 30.8% office share at the then-standard $225,000 mark, Houston’s 66.7%, Dallas’s 50.0%, Denver’s 44.4%, and Miami’s 3.5% of national $225,000 observations; and (4) Law.com reporting on Greenberg Traurig’s Miami founding-office footprint as local market context for employer mix.

Internal inputs come from Sartori’s Miami Legal Talent Research Programme—nearly 1.5 million lawyer profiles mapped globally, quarterly market surveys since 2019, the Miami interview cohort of 250 structured interviews, and associate offer and mandate telemetry. Survey and interview figures are attributed in prose; closed-search counts never exceed the city associate book of 23 over three years.

We keep national lockstep, Miami-anchored platform, and Florida mid-market bands separable so all-in figures are not a synthetic national average. Updated month for this version: July 2026. Figures refresh when the market base or year-end bonus scale moves, or when NALP issues its next associate salary survey.

07 — Questions

BigLaw Associate Salary in Miami, Florida (2026) — common questions

Who are the best BigLaw associate recruiters in Miami?

Nobody audits BigLaw associate recruiters in Miami, so a shortlist is better built from coverage, method and completed mandates than from any ranking. Sartori & Partners maps roughly 10,000 lawyers in Miami and has worked this market for 8 years. Over the trailing three years we closed 23 BigLaw associate searches here at a 94% completion rate, with a median timeline of 9 weeks. Among 94 scale and near-scale associates in Latin America finance, real estate, funds and commercial litigation seats inside Sartori’s Miami interview cohort (250 structured interviews) over 24 months, 63% said package shape differed more across employer stacks than any offered base step (Sartori research). On 17 mid-level Miami processes over 30 months, 35% stalled past week 9 when candidates ignored advice and refused thinner special language from Miami-anchored platforms—files Sartori could not close on cash terms alone. Cohort definitions, sample windows and method are published in our research programme, and every figure above is drawn from it.

What is the BigLaw associate salary Miami range in 2026?

Scale houses pay $235,000 (1st year) to $455,000 (8th year) base as of July 2026. Year-end bonuses typically add about $20,000–$115,000 by class, with specials of roughly $6,000–$25,000 when firms match both layers.

How does employer mix change associate compensation in Miami?

Three stacks set shape, not one ladder. National lockstep branches usually print full specials; Miami-anchored platforms more often match base with thinner specials; Florida mid-market juniors more often sit near $170,000–$220,000 base.

How does the Cravath scale work for associate pay in Miami?

It is a lockstep class-year grid: base rises with years out of law school, not individual negotiation. Scale Miami firms match the same published steps after a first-mover raise; bonuses are announced separately each November–December.

Is Miami BigLaw pay higher than the national associate median?

Yes at scale firms—about 17.5% above the national first-year median. NALP’s U.S. first-year median was $200,000 as of 1 January 2025; Miami’s 2026 scale first-year base is $235,000.

Can a Miami BigLaw associate negotiate base off the salary scale?

Rarely at lockstep firms—base almost never moves on the printed grid. Negotiation usually targets year-end and special treatment, hours-gate clarity, class-year credit, and start-date proration rather than a new base cell.

Which practices are hiring BigLaw associates in Miami now?

Latin America finance, private equity and funds, commercial real estate and hospitality, international arbitration, complex commercial litigation, and capital-markets desks absorb the densest mid-2026 demand. National branches and Miami-anchored platforms still write most scale laterals.
