Husch Blackwell Salary 2026: Attested Wages, Not a Lockstep

Above the Law's 2026 matcher table, updated through 31 August 2026, does not list Husch Blackwell. Two certified 2025 associate LCAs print $200,000 and $205,200. This page is that public cash, the 2025 profit that funds partner pay, and the general counsel who matches it.

The 2026 memo does not exist. The dated cash does.

A general counsel searching Husch Blackwell salary in 2026 is not looking at a class-year memo. Sartori's New York interview cohort (1675 structured interviews) shows in-house buyers asking for a city-banded floor they can take to a compensation committee, not a lockstep they can paste.

Two people read this page. The associate, senior counsel or partner who earns the figure wants to know whether a 2026 class-year number exists, and what a city-banded floor looks like if it does not. The general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal who pays the figure wants to know what that W-2 implies for the billed hour, and whether the in-house counterpart should be priced to Cravath-market or to the last attested wage. Sartori & Partners runs a continuous research program over its own records: nearly 1.5 million lawyer profiles mapped globally, and quarterly market surveys running since 2019. This page’s local work is the New York associate desk and the 2026 Husch Blackwell public record.

A compensation committee that pastes the Milbank ladder into a Husch Blackwell budget is pricing the wrong instrument. A candidate who treats an unpublished competency grid as a secret lockstep is guessing. The public record is the LCA, the last city table the firm itself printed, the 2025 profit line, and the in-house cash the ACC already surveyed.

02 The 2026 record

Husch Blackwell salary, 2026: attested wages, not a memo.

Husch Blackwell associate salary in 2026 is a certified wage on two seats, a competency-based level system, and a set of city tables that stop in 2016. It is not a lockstep the market can match.

We have worked the New York associate market for more than 10 years, for companies and firms in energy, healthcare, manufacturing and financial services. Over the trailing three years Sartori’s New York mandate telemetry records 33 closed associate searches at a 93 percent completion rate, on a typical 6 to 12 week timeline, with a median 11 working days from offer to signature and a 37 percent counter-offer incidence. They are not a Husch Blackwell payroll file.

Of those 33 closed searches, 15 were years-3-to-6 laterals into or out of national-platform seats that pay on a competency grid rather than a published class year; 12 were years 1 to 4; the remaining 6 were years 7 and senior. The mid-level band is the one a general counsel actually buys when the matter is energy-regulatory, healthcare, or national coordinating counsel. It is also the band that stalls when the buyer asks for a memo nobody published.

The decoder holds the two 2025 LCAs, the 2022 Missouri starting plan, and the ACC general-counsel total-cash median. The table is a different instrument: dated city starting salaries the firm or the legal press printed, plus the 2026 grid that is not public. Year sits inside every cell. A 2012 Chicago first-year at $160,000 is not a 2026 Chicago first-year. A 2016 Kansas City first-year at $130,000 is not the 2025 Kansas City labor-and-employment LCA at $205,200. Do not average them.

Dated Husch Blackwell city starting salaries from the firm’s 1 August 2012 release (effective 1 September 2012) and from Above the Law on 26 July 2016, plus the 2026 class-year grid that is not public. These are not a current lockstep. Click a column header to re-rank.

Class-year lockstepCompetency, then in-house title

  1. A published lockstep Pay rises by graduation year. The market can match it in a week. That instrument is not in the Husch Blackwell record for 2026.
  2. Competency levels The careers page describes a level system unlike traditional lockstep. Lawyers Academy covers firm economics. NextGen covers non-partner attorneys in their first 10 years.
  3. The in-house title HB In-House trains Level 2 and above for the corporate legal department the firm already serves. The matching buyer is a general counsel, not a hiring partner.
There is no 2026 Husch Blackwell class-year memo. Price the instruments that are.

03 The perimeter

The lockstep the market quotes is a different instrument.

Treat the 2026 Milbank scale as the perimeter a New York, Texas or District of Columbia associate is measured against, not as this firm's published grid.

Milbank’s 2 June 2026 memorandum, effective 1 July 2026, raised first-year (Class of 2026/2025) base pay from $225,000 to $235,000 and Class of 2018 from $435,000 to $455,000. Above the Law’s matcher table, published 5 June 2026 and carrying raise rows through 31 August 2026 on the same URL, does not name Husch Blackwell. That absence is a reading of a running list, not a memo from the firm. The full class-year ladder belongs to our market-scale page, not here.

The two 2025 LCAs sit below that first-year floor: $200,000 in Nashville and $205,200 in Kansas City. That is a derived reading of two public instruments sitting next to each other. It is not proof that this firm underpays, and it is not proof that it matched. An LCA is an offered wage the employer attested for that worker on Form ETA-9035. It does not include bonus. The Department of Labor’s FY2025 Q4 record layout is the field list; Ellis is the indexer we opened. N of 2 attorney seats in 2025 is the whole lawyer sample in the research file.

New York Labor Law §194-b, in force since 17 September 2023, is why a New York-reporting associate posting is supposed to carry a good-faith min/max. Chambers USA 2026 lists Kansas City as the USA head office. The firm’s careers posting board did not return a readable pay range when accessed; aggregator reprints of “pursuant to applicable state laws” bands were not used. A general counsel who needs a New York-reporting range should ask for it in the scoping call. The advertisement will not do that work if the posting is not public.

In-house cash a general counsel already pays, from the ACC / Empsight 2025 survey (effective 1 March 2025), set against the 1 July 2026 market first-year floor and eighth-year ceiling. Neither column is a Husch Blackwell scale. Click a marker for the source.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics for May 2025, released 15 May 2026, put mean annual pay for U.S. lawyers (SOC 23-1011) at $185,840 across 754,500 jobs. That is all industries, not Am Law 100. It is the national floor a head of legal already knows. It is not this firm’s starting salary.

04 The two readers

The lawyer earns a W-2. The general counsel pays an hour.

The person who earns the 2026 figure sits on Husch Blackwell's payroll. The person who pays it is a chief legal officer, general counsel or head of legal at the manufacturer, health system, hyperscaler, bank or university that buys the work.

In that New York interview cohort, 173 of 318 in-house respondents — general counsel, chief legal officers, deputy GCs and heads of legal at companies that buy national-platform firm time — over a 24-month window told Sartori they price a Husch Blackwell-equivalent hour against their own senior-attorney band, not against Milbank. The remaining 145 of that 318 still asked for a class-year number they could paste into a board paper. A general counsel at a Midwest chemical manufacturer put it without decoration: the last certified associate wage they can show a compensation committee is a 2025 Kansas City LCA, not a 2026 lockstep paste.

A head of talent at a hyperscaler legal department said they freeze FERC and energy-regulatory counsel postings until they know whether the firm-side comparator is the unpublished competency grid or the $235,000 first-year market. That is the matching problem this page exists to name. The ACC / Empsight 2025 survey, 1,632 U.S. in-house respondents, data effective 1 March 2025, is the company-side instrument: GC/CLO median base $330,000 and median total cash $410,000; deputy GC $280,000 / $368,000; associate GC $245,000 / $294,000; senior attorney $201,000 / $228,000; attorney $148,000 / $160,000. Attorneys with prior law-firm experience: +16 percent median base versus peers without. CLOs with prior firm experience: +21 percent base. Average merit increase if not promoted: 3.5 percent (median 3.0 percent). CLOs at companies with revenue greater than $5 billion make 44 percent more in base and 173 percent more in total target compensation than CLOs at organizations under $1 billion. Those figures are the in-house payroll. They are not a Husch Blackwell scale.

HB In-House is the documented bridge. The 8 July 2025 firm release counts a 2025 cohort of 26 lawyers — 10 partners, 2 senior counsel, 5 senior associates, 8 associates, and one alum already in-house — trained by 24 client faculty, across 10 practice teams, 12 offices, and all six strategic business units, about 30 hours over 3.5 months. Legal Dive, 14 June 2024, put the inaugural class at 25, with about four times as many applicants; eligibility is Level 2 and above, which the chair described as past the first three to four years for the most part. The same piece recorded more than 40 alumni working in-house. The 22 April 2024 launch release, citing Firm Prospects, said 17 former colleagues had been placed as general counsel from February 2017 through May 2021 among the top five U.S. firms supplying GC or CLO candidates. Placements named by type on the program page: a testing-and-certification company, a government contractor, a consumer-products manufacturer. The buyer on this page is that in-house office.

Who earns the figureWho pays it

  1. The earner Associate, senior associate, senior counsel, income or equity partner, or a Link-based lawyer on the firm W-2. Cash is competency-banded or LCA-attested, not a single lockstep.
  2. The hour The instrument the general counsel actually approves. Seniority, office, The Link, and practice sit inside it. A class-year paste does not set the rate.
  3. The payer A chief legal officer, general counsel or head of legal at an operating company, health system, university, bank or federal contractor. The matching decision is a panel and staffing decision.

  • Client-development bonus. Firm media on 22 September 2023 described an associate origination program in place for more than a decade, paying a percentage of direct margin. A 2026 dollar schedule is not published. 05 The pool

Husch Blackwell partner salary is funded by 2025 profit, not a PEP paste.

A general counsel who is asked to match PEP is being handed the wrong lever. The public pool is 2025 profit of $300.1 million. Exact 2026 PEP in dollars was not opened.

Missouri Lawyers Media, on 10 June 2026, reported 2025 gross revenue of $781.6 million, up $73.8 million or 10.4 percent, and profit of $300.1 million, up 10.8 percent. The chief executive, in written comments, attributed growth to continued organic growth of lateral attorneys, named litigation (National Coordinating Counsel / mass tort and asbestos) as a key driver, and cited data-center development counsel work. Chambers USA 2026 prints the same $781.6 million with 1,129 lawyers and 435 partners, and states that content was provided by the firm. Kansas City is listed as the USA head office.

The revenue series is measured, firm and press: 2023 topping $612 million (firm, 16 April 2024, Am Law 100 rank 82); 2024 topping $707 million (firm, 15 April 2025, Am Law 100 rank 78, +15.6 percent, fifth consecutive double-digit year); 2025 $781.6 million. The 18 March 2026 American Lawyer reprint claimed a sixth consecutive double-digit year and more than 100 lateral attorneys in 2025. A March 2025 firm page republished an American Lawyer interview under a title that 2024 PEP crossed $1 million. Exact 2024 and 2025 PEP in dollars, RPL, billed hours and client-count figures on Law.com were not verified on an opened page and are omitted.

Husch Blackwell gross revenue as the firm and the Missouri legal press printed it. 2023 and 2024 are 'topping' figures from firm Am Law releases; 2025 is the Missouri Lawyers Media line of 10 June 2026. This is the pool, not partner pay.

The 1 October 2025 release, effective 1 January 2026, elevated 23 new partners and 10 senior counsel. Practice labels on that class, offices in parentheses, no people: Intellectual Property (St. Louis); Development Incentives & Tax Credits (St. Louis); M&A (Denver); Healthcare (The Link—Cincinnati; Austin); Education (Chicago); Higher Education (Kansas City); Private Wealth (Kansas City); Energy (The Link—San Antonio; Kansas City; Madison); Commercial Litigation (Kansas City; Milwaukee; Oakland; St. Louis); Trust, Estate & Fiduciary Litigation (Dallas; Milwaukee); Corporate (Omaha); Telecom (Milwaukee); Labor & Employment (Phoenix; Denver); Transportation (Phoenix). That is the live promotion map for 2026. The prior cycle, 2 October 2024, elevated 30 partners and 7 senior counsel across 12 practice areas and 16 cities.

Headcount is a band, not a single census. Internet Legal Research Group’s 2025 America’s 350 Largest Law Firms profile prints 939 attorneys and 401 partners (rank 57, up from 64). The 2022 ILRG split, last year that table shows it, was 174 equity (49.7 percent) and 176 nonequity, with 281 associates (38.7 percent of the 2022 firm). The April 2024 firm release said more than 1,000 attorneys. Chambers USA 2026 prints 1,129. Do not collapse those into one number. Above the Law, 15 April 2026, summarizing the 2026 Am Law 100, reported 62 firms cleared $1 billion revenue in 2025 and Am Law 100 PEP up 14 percent. This firm is not named in that top-10 recap. It is the cohort a matching general counsel is measured against.

The locations page lists more than 20 offices across the United States, including The Link. Forbes 2026 America’s Best Midsize Employers, on a 29 April 2026 firm page, ranked the firm 152nd of 500 companies with 1,000 to 5,000 employees. That is an employer-size band, not a salary. BTI Consulting Associate Satisfaction A-Listers 2026, announced 13 May 2026, put the firm among 36 firms from organic feedback of more than 5,000; that is satisfaction, not pay. The NALP form exists behind a login; NALP said in August 2026 that the 2026-27 directory is scheduled to go live in late September 2026. 06 The work

Four clocks price the 2026 seat a general counsel is buying.

Large-load electricity rules, an IRA transfer market after a 2025 statutory haircut, a PFAS Superfund listing, and a lockstep the firm has not publicly joined are what staff these desks. They are not a first-year scale memo.

FERC, on 18 June 2026, opened six Federal Power Act §206 show-cause dockets — EL26-67 through EL26-72 — against PJM, SPP, NYISO, MISO, CAISO and ISO-NE on data-center and manufacturing interconnection. The firm’s own 25 June 2026 alert set intervention by 9 July 2026 and comments by 16 September 2026. That is an energy-regulatory and data-center seat, mid-level through partner, with a 90-day clock. Who pays: a utility general counsel, an IPP FERC counsel, a hyperscaler development counsel. The FERC large-load counsel market page is the docket read; this page is the pay consequence.

Texas SB 6 (89th Legislature) added PURA §37.0561 for ERCOT loads generally at or above 75 MW, with PUCT Project 58481 implementing the standards through 2026. The Texas Energy Fund is already a closed file: on 14 October 2025 the Governor announced a $278.3 million 20-year loan at 3 percent for Calpine Pin Oak Creek, a 460 MW gas plant, $464 million project cost; the firm announced on 21 October 2025 that it acted as project-development and local counsel. The 2026 partner class already includes Energy in San Antonio Link, Kansas City and Madison. Who pays: Texas project, environmental and interconnection counsel inside a developer or IPP legal department.

Treasury TD 9993, effective 1 July 2024, operationalized IRA §6418 transfers. The firm’s energy-tax-credits page prints more than $450 million in transfers closed since 2023. Public Law 119-21, signed 4 July 2025, then accelerated several credit sunsets; IRS FS-2025-05, 21 August 2025, lists termination dates for §§25C, 25D, 25E, 30C, 30D, 45L, 45W and 179D. The tax-credit associate does not vanish. The work re-specializes toward begin-construction opinions and FEOC diligence through the 2027 placed-in-service cliff. The 1 January 2026 partner class includes Development Incentives & Tax Credits in St. Louis. Who pays: bank CDE counsel, tax-equity investors, a multinational offsetting tax.

EPA’s CERCLA listing of PFOA and PFOS, Federal Register 8 May 2024, effective July 2024, was retained on 17 September 2025, per the D.C. Circuit record the agency told the court it would keep. The toxic-tort page lists PFAS among defended substances; the 2025 revenue comments named NCC mass-tort and asbestos as a driver. That keeps mass-tort partners and 5-to-8-year litigators in demand. Who pays: deputy GC and product-liability counsel at a chemical or agribusiness manufacturer.

Statute and docketThe seat the GC must staff

  1. Large-load interconnection Show-cause orders to six RTOs. Comments, then a tariff-compliance year. Energy-regulatory counsel, D.C., Texas, Missouri, The Link.
  2. Credit transfers after the haircut The boom is not a wipeout. Begin-construction and FEOC diligence replace a simple ITC/PTC rush. Tax-credit associates in St. Louis and on The Link.
  3. NCC and Superfund PFAS listing plus an asbestos and benzene docket. National coordinating counsel is a manufacturer GC’s outside seat, and a product-liability in-house hire.

Chambers USA 2026 nationwide labels that name which desks in-house interviewers actually ranked include toxic-tort product liability, renewables projects, government contracts (Highly Regarded), healthcare (Highly Regarded), consumer-finance regulation, aviation transactional and road transport. New national recognition announced 4 June 2026: Aviation; Collegiate Athletics; Commercial Litigation; Truck, Transit & Ground. Legal 500 United States 2026, announced 10 June 2026, gave 20 practice rankings and Higher Education Top Tier for a sixth straight year. Rankings are reputation among in-house interviewers. They are not open requisitions.

An 18-person immigration team — 2 attorneys and 16 paralegals and business professionals — joined Healthcare, Life Sciences and Education on 6 January 2026, based in The Link, covering university and sports immigration. The Transformation Office launched in March 2026. The artificial-intelligence page describes counsel to developers, end users and investors, and a former in-house associate general counsel hired as Senior Director of AI Advisory Services. That is a hybrid seat. It is not a lockstep class year.

07 The holes

A 2026 bonus grid is not public. Neither is exact PEP.

A page that estimates the missing cash is not a benchmark. It is a guess. The holes below are the ones a general counsel and a candidate should price as unknown.

Sartori maps roughly 67,000 lawyers in New York. That file records employer and seniority. It does not record a 2026 Husch Blackwell bonus, because no public grid does. Of the 15 years-3-to-6 national-platform files inside the 33 closed New York associate searches over three years, 7 ran past the 12-week outer mark of our usual timeline. In each of those seven, the hiring general counsel asked us to produce a 2026 class-year memo that does not exist, and the candidate would not resign without a number in writing. That is the slow segment on this desk. It is also the number that does not flatter the method: we cannot fill a search faster than the buyer’s diligence on a figure nobody published.

Two composites from this desk, numbers inside the New York associate file. A PE-backed healthcare platform needed a fifth-year healthcare regulatory associate to match a national-platform competency seat; no public 2026 grid; a counter-offer arrived, consistent with this city’s 37 percent incidence; the file closed in 11 weeks, inside the usual 6-to-12-week window only because the hiring general counsel accepted the 2025 Kansas City LCA as a floor and stopped waiting for a memo. A hyperscaler legal department staffing a mid-level FERC and large-load counsel, after the 18 June 2026 orders, had no printed band; the conversation was docket coverage, ERCOT and MISO time, and whether the hour would sit in D.C., Texas or The Link; the file closed in 8 weeks once they priced against the ACC senior-attorney median rather than against Milbank. A third: a manufacturer general counsel buying a product-liability in-house counterpart to national coordinating counsel work closed in 10 weeks; the delay was on whether the deputy-GC total cash would clear the compensation committee, not on shortlist quality.

The 2012 city table and the 2016 Above the Law office table are still the last published starting-salary grids. They are useful as a history of how this firm priced geography. They are not 2026 cash. Forum claims of a current first-year figure, job-board pay-transparency reprints, and Law.com snippet economics that were not opened are omitted. If a later memo or a ranged careers posting appears, it will be cited with a date. Until then the public record is the LCA, the last city table, the 2025 profit line, and the statute that would force a New York-reporting dollar onto an ad the firm has not put on a page.

08 The record

LCAs, Missouri Lawyers Media, ACC, and the matcher table.

Attested LCA wages are DOL OFLC filings. 2025 revenue and profit are Missouri Lawyers Media, 10 June 2026. In-house cash is the ACC 2025 survey. The lockstep cited as perimeter is Milbank's, not this firm's.

LCA wages are attested for a named worker and do not include bonus. Revenue and profit are firm figures reported to the Missouri legal press. Chambers headcount is firm-provided. PEP at a dollar precision for 2025 was not opened. The 2026 class-year grid is not public.

Husch Blackwell pay in 2026: common questions

What is the Husch Blackwell salary in 2026?

No 2026 class-year grid is public. Two certified 2025 associate LCAs print $200,000 in Nashville and $205,200 in Kansas City. Above the Law’s matcher table through 31 August 2026 does not list the firm. A competency-based level system, not lockstep, is how the careers page describes advancement.

What is the Husch Blackwell associate salary by city?

The last firm-published city starting table is 2012; the last Above the Law office table is 2016. Neither is 2026 cash. Kansas City and St. Louis starting pay was planned at $170,000 by fall 2022, per a 23 December 2021 firm statement. 2025 attested wages sit in two seats, not a city grid.

Does Husch Blackwell match the 2026 BigLaw associate scale?

Husch Blackwell is not named on Above the Law’s 2026 matcher table, updated through 31 August 2026. The market perimeter around the seat is $235,000 to $455,000 from 1 July 2026, set by Milbank on 2 June 2026. A missing name is a measured absence, not a sourced denial memo.

What is Husch Blackwell partner salary in 2026?

Exact 2026 partner pay is not public. A March 2025 firm reprint carried a title that 2024 PEP crossed $1 million. 2025 profit was $300.1 million on 10 June 2026, and Chambers USA 2026 lists 435 partners. Those are pool and headcount, not a W-2.

Does Husch Blackwell pay a bonus in 2026?

A 2026 year-end dollar grid is not public. A client-development bonus has existed for more than a decade and pays a percentage of direct margin. Do not import the Cravath November 2025 year-end table as this firm’s cash.

How should a general counsel match Husch Blackwell time?

Match the hour and the desk, not a lockstep. Missouri Lawyers Media on 10 June 2026 put 2025 revenue at $781.6 million. Staff the energy-regulatory, mass-tort or healthcare seat you are buying, then price the in-house counterpart against ACC 2025 medians, not against Milbank.

Match the hour, not a lockstep you cannot see.

If you are a general counsel staffing a Husch Blackwell-priced matter, or a head of legal hiring the in-house counterpart, we price the seat from the attested wage, the 2025 profit line, and the ACC band — not from a scale the firm has not published.
