Irwin Mitchell Salary 2026: Associate Scale, Bonus and Partner Pay
The employer's own careers page, accessed 11 September 2026, still posts London newly qualified pay at £59,500–£78,000. That is a high-street-plus cell a general counsel actually buys, not a Magic Circle average. This page prices the print for the solicitor who earns it and the company that matches it.
The first number is the high-street cell, not a City average.
Sartori maps roughly 30,000 practicing lawyers in London. The 2026 question for a general counsel is not a Magic Circle average. It is whether the high-street-plus cell on the employer's own careers page is the seat they are actually buying.
The employer's solicitor training-contracts page, accessed 11 September 2026, posts London newly qualified salary at £59,500–£78,000 and regional NQ at £45,000–£57,000, both dependent on practice area. Legal 500 Future Lawyers, accessed the same day, prints the same cells. A band, not a lockstep.
Four reads of one cell. The 2026 discard is the idea that this NQ is leftover Magic Circle inventory. The destination mix prices a different solicitor. The seat sits in section 03.

What Irwin Mitchell nq salary actually publishes
Start with the employer's own careers page and the date it was accessed. London is a practice-area band. Regional is a second band. Neither is a Magic Circle average, and neither is a 3PQE lockstep.
Irwin Mitchell's solicitor training-contracts page, accessed on 11 September 2026, posts first-year trainee pay at £31,500 regional and £43,500 London; second-year at £33,500 regional and £45,500 London; newly qualified salary regional £45,000–£57,000 dependent on practice area; and newly qualified salary London £59,500–£78,000 dependent on practice area. The Legal 500 Future Lawyers interactive salary table, accessed the same day, lists the same six cells. That is the 2026 employer scale. It is annual base before bonus.
The same careers page states the firm offers training contracts in 16 UK offices, welcomed 45 trainee solicitors in August 2026, and currently has 94 trainees (43 universities; 38 from non-Russell institutions; 33 percent non-law). Eligible candidates who have not already started SQE or a full-time PGDL at offer receive funded preparation, course and exam fees and a £1,000 per month maintenance grant. That grant is a training-contract cash line, not NQ base. The SRA, in pathways guidance dated January 2025 and an SQE Q&A updated 28 January 2026, still requires SQE1, SQE2, two years' qualifying work experience and a character-and-suitability check; the LPC route remains until 2032. The 2026 and 2027 intakes on this payroll are SQE-native.
A Bank of England daily sterling spot of 1.3531 USD per GBP on 10 September 2026, compiled by Pound Sterling Live from the Bank's 2026 calendar, converts those employer bounds as follows, rounded to the nearest $100 after the exact product: regional NQ about $60,900–$77,100; London NQ about $80,500–$105,500; Magic Circle London NQ of £150,000 about $203,000. The Bank of England's own exchange-rates page, accessed 11 September 2026, states that these daily spots are not official rates. The dollars are an FX translation of sterling base on one dated spot. They are not a US payroll and not purchasing-power parity.
| Seat | Trainee year 1 | Trainee year 2 | NQ base | What the page actually says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| London | £43,500 | £45,500 | £59,500–£78,000 | Dependent on practice area; employer page, accessed 11 September 2026 |
| Regional (16 training offices) | £31,500 | £33,500 | £45,000–£57,000 | Dependent on practice area; same employer page |
The 45 joiners in August 2026 and the 51 who joined in August 2025 are two different intakes; do not average them. The 21 August 2025 retention release is the last primary measured rate for this page. Legal Cheek's later 94 percent on the firm profile is not matched by a 2026 firm announcement.
The high-street seat a general counsel is actually matching
A London NQ band of £59,500–£78,000 is what ranking sites still put next to Magic Circle. The files that pay this bench sit in claimant clinical negligence, Court of Protection and mid-market business services.
In that same London interview cohort, 68 of 124 respondents sitting on claimant clinical-negligence, Court of Protection or public-law desks over a 24-month window told Sartori that a general counsel who prices this NQ against Magic Circle lockstep is buying the wrong product. The NQ ranking is a recruiting poster. The destination mix is the job.
The firm's 21 August 2025 release counted 36 summer qualifiers plus 12 earlier in the year: 48 of 53 retained. Destinations: 14 Business Services Group; 12 Medical Negligence; 9 Court of Protection and Public Law & Human Rights; 8 Private Client Group; 4 Personal Injury; 1 internal General Counsel. Legal Cheek repeated that split on 22 August 2025. Thirty-three of those 48 sat in Legal Services for Individuals-type groups. The internal GC seat is a law-firm legal-department role, not an external corporate chair. Volume personal injury “have now been sold,” as the 5 August 2025 results release put it — which is why only four destinees landed in Personal Injury.
The training-contracts page, accessed 11 September 2026, splits the graduate scheme into Legal Services for Individuals and Legal Services for Businesses. Trainees do three seats plus a repeat seat inside one stream and one office. LSI labels: Medical Negligence; Personal Injury (Serious Injury, Asbestos & Occupational Disease); Court of Protection and Public Law & Human Rights; Private Client Group. BSG labels: Banking & Finance; Commercial; Commercial Dispute Resolution; Construction; Corporate; Employment; Intellectual Property; Pensions; Planning & Environmental; Real Estate Transactional; Real Estate Disputes; Regulatory & Compliance; Restructuring & Insolvency. Seat availability “depends on the demand from the team.” London carries the widest BSG set. Sheffield headquarters is LSI-heavy. Cardiff expansion, announced 1 April 2026 with Brighton, houses Personal Injury, Medical Negligence, Court of Protection and Public Law, with office space up 80 percent.
NQ ranking cellThe file that pays the seat
- Published NQ band London and regional cells dependent on practice area. What a ranking site still uses to put this solicitor next to Magic Circle and call the gap a discard.
- Claimant and mid-market desks Medical negligence, Court of Protection, serious injury, private client, employment, real estate, banking. The seats 2025 destinees and 2026 promotions actually staffed.
- Company and counterparty work A mid-market general counsel, a clearing-bank panel, an NHS Resolution claims team, a Legal Aid Agency schedule. The people who write the second check, or sit across from it.
A general counsel at a UK mid-market manufacturer put the mismatch in one line: the board will fund a Leeds or Sheffield employment hire off this bench and will not fund Magic Circle newly qualified pounds for a first in-house employment seat. That is how a company-side budget actually clears. Chambers UK Guide 2026 ranks the firm in Clinical Negligence: Mainly Claimant at Band 1 in multiple regions including London, Personal Injury: Mainly Claimant at Band 1 in several regions and Band 2 in London, Employment: Senior Executive at Band 3 in London, and Yorkshire Banking & Finance at Band 3. Those are the public ranking labels a head of legal uses when buying the seat. Do not collapse employer-side northern employment with the London senior-executive claimant list.
The NQ ranking is a recruiting poster. The destination mix is the job.
Who earns the figure, and who pays it
Two payers sit on this page: the Alternative Business Structure that employs the scale, and the general counsel who either instructs the desk, hires the junior in-house, or sits across from the claimant file.
Of 33 closed London associate searches over the trailing three years, Sartori's mandate telemetry records 19 as company-side seats in which a general counsel, chief legal officer or head of legal was matching a high-street-plus hire from NQ through 4 PQE. The remaining 14 were firm-side associate seats. That split is why this page is not a Magic Circle lateral memo. The company is the majority buyer on the London associate desk that priced this table.
We have worked the London associate market for more than 10 years, for companies in manufacturing, education, financial services and healthcare and for UK national full-service firms. Over the trailing three years we closed 33 associate searches at a 93 percent completion rate, on a typical timeline of 6 to 12 weeks, with a median 12 working days between offer and acceptance.
Legal 500's firm About and the Chambers UK 2026 profile, both 11 September 2026 and supplied by the firm, print 256 partners, 1,843 other fee-earners and over 3,000 staff. The homepage the same day says 21 offices; the 1 April 2026 expansion release says 25 locations across England, Scotland and Wales. Band the office count; do not pick one. The Lawyer UK Litigation 50 for 2024, cited by the firm on 16 December 2024, put litigation revenue at £216.1 million and litigation-lawyer headcount at 520. That is disputes fee income for that ranking year, not 2026 NQ pay.
The ABS writes the paycheckA company matches the print
- ABS payroll Trainee, newly qualified, associate, senior associate, legal director, fixed-share and equity partner — on LSI and BSG labels the careers site actually uses.
- Panel and counterparty Claimant clinical files against NHS Resolution and insurers; Court of Protection and judicial review funded by the Legal Aid Agency; banking and real-estate work for clearing banks and occupiers.
- In-house match A general counsel, head of legal or HR legal business partner at a mid-market UK company who has to put a lawyer on the payroll and price this cell against a first in-house employment, claims or real-estate seat.
The seat is a national full-service Alternative Business Structure. The 2026 promotions and the live laterals name the desks that still move; they do not publish the pounds above NQ.
- Grade flow is public; cash above NQ is not. The firm, on 13 April 2026, announced 100 promotions effective 1 May 2026: 41 to Associate, 31 to Senior Associate, 16 to Legal Director, six fixed-share partners and six full equity. The Law Gazette, on 15 April 2026, named fixed-share seats in commercial dispute resolution, real estate, medical negligence, private client advisory and serious injury, and equity seats in commercial dispute resolution, medical negligence, family law and serious injury. Three-quarters of the new partner cohort originally trained at the firm. That is internal grade movement, not a sterling scale.
- Live laterals are mid-senior, not the NQ cell. The employer's own careers pages, accessed 11 September 2026, advertised an Employment Associate / Senior Associate in Leeds or Sheffield, employer-focused, ideally 4–8 years' PQE, salary Competitive; a Real Estate Associate / Senior Associate in Leeds, Manchester or Sheffield, minimum 4 years' PQE, for developers, investors, landowners, funders and occupiers; and a Senior Associate / Legal Director in High Net Worth and International Private Client in London. The NQ cell is filled from the two-stream training contract, not from those ads.
- Hours are a survey print, not a bonus formula. Legal Cheek's firm profile, accessed 11 September 2026, lists an annual target of 1,050 hours and diary averages starting at 08:43 and finishing at 17:48, from the 2026–27 trainee and junior survey. That is the measured hours figure for this page. It is not a 2026 bonus rule.
- Gender mix is a pay-structure fact, still not PEP. The firm's 25 March 2026 gender-pay release, covering the 12 months ending 5 April 2025, put the mean gap at 13.11 percent and the median at 21.72 percent, and stated the firm is the only top-50 UK law firm with more than 50 percent female partners, with about 74 percent of colleagues female. Legal Cheek's profile lists UK female associates at 80 percent and UK female partners at 59 percent. Those percentages describe the partnership mix. They are not a drawing.
Matching this print is a mid-market, healthcare-counterparty and lender-panel problem. It is not a Magic Circle general counsel's lockstep problem, and it is not a Government Legal Department Grade 7 substitute.
- In-house respondents already split the product. In the same cohort, 41 of 96 in-house counsel and general counsel respondents at UK mid-market manufacturers, education groups, clearing banks and healthcare counterparties over 24 months said they would match a Leeds, Manchester or Sheffield employment or real-estate print and would not match Magic Circle NQ for a first in-house employment or claims seat.
- The BSG buyer is a company GC, not a City hiring partner. The firm's business landing, accessed 11 September 2026, frames the client as start-ups through global organizations, with sector emphasis on manufacturing, consumer, financial services, real estate and education. FY25 results on 5 August 2025 said the business team won bids with major banks and nationally regarded brands, and named the strategy as firm of choice for mid-market business services. Chambers UK 2026 Yorkshire Banking & Finance (Band 3) describes a lender client base of UK clearing banks, alternative lenders and private banking groups. Anonymized, that buyer is in-house counsel at a UK clearing bank or alternative lender; the firm-side seat is Banking & Finance solicitor.
- The LSI counterparty is NHS Resolution, an ICB or a local authority. NHS Resolution, updated 7 August 2026, is the DHSC arm's-length body that manages clinical and non-clinical indemnity schemes. The firm's medical-negligence homepage, accessed 11 September 2026, is a claimant practice; most claims run no-win-no-fee; the opponent is the NHS or a private provider. FY25 growth cited group actions including national NHS maternity safety issues in Leeds and Nottingham. Public-law pages state that the majority of Court of Protection and judicial-review cases are Legal Aid funded. Those institutions buy or oppose the work. They do not pay this NQ salary.
- Private-client payers instruct; they rarely employ the NQ. The London HNW vacancy names family offices, fiduciaries and UHNW families as buyers. FY25 put Private Client Group growth at 17.5 percent. The King’s Award page of 6 May 2026 describes international desks advising overseas corporates, investors and private clients on UK market entry. Immigration, after a 6 June 2025 team acquisition of seven fee-earners, sits with Heads of Global Mobility on the company side. None of those buyers is the 2026 NQ payer.
Bonus, partner pay, and the lockstep that is not public
The NQ cell is a retention instrument. The mid-level lockstep, the 2026 bonus quantum and profit per equity partner are the three things a general counsel actually needs to match a 4 PQE hire, and none of them is public.
In the same cohort, 29 of 81 newly qualified and 1–3 PQE respondents at national full-service UK firms over an 18-month window named unpublished mid-level bands, not the NQ cell, as the reason they were testing the market. A published PQE lockstep is not a price, because it does not exist. A process that quotes a 4 PQE Irwin Mitchell band is using an internal number. This page will not guess one.
The employer benefits page, accessed 11 September 2026, states that annual performance-related bonuses are available to all. No percentage, cap or 2025/2026 outturn is printed. GOV.UK's gender-pay-gap service for IRWIN MITCHELL LLP, reporting year 2023–24, snapshot 5 April 2023, shows 74.6 percent of women and 69.9 percent of men received bonus pay, with women's median bonus 18.9 percent lower than men's and a mean bonus gap of 27.9 percent. That is participation and a gap, not a sterling bonus pool. Do not carry a guessed percent into a 2026 offer letter.
Partner profit-per-equity-partner is not constructible. Law Gazette, on 5 August 2026, reported group revenue of £337.5 million for the year to 30 April 2026, up 6.4 percent, and pre-tax profit from trading activities of £16.5 million versus £22.4 million the prior year, attributed to planned technology investment, the increase in national insurance contributions, and office moves in London, Brighton, Liverpool, Cardiff and Nottingham. International revenue more than doubled to £35.4 million. The same piece states that the firm has a corporate structure and, unlike traditional partnerships, its profit before tax figure is after all partner remuneration. Legal Business the same day printed revenue up from £317.3 million; Insider Media on 6 August 2026 printed a prior year of £317.1 million. The firm's own 5 August 2025 release had put FY25 total revenue at £329.3 million and total profit before tax at £24.6 million, with the same PEP warning, and Law Gazette's 8 July 2025 top-50 table recorded that pair with the PEP cell blank. Those prior-year labels do not arithmetically lock. Do not invent a restatement. Do not divide £16.5 million by 256 partners.

What actually pays a high-street-plus seat in 2026
An NQ band is a retention response. The 2026 files that justify matching a medical-negligence, Court of Protection or employer-side employment lawyer — and that argue against treating the NQ as Magic Circle leftover — sit in a statute calendar and a book this firm has already exited.
Volume motor, soldThe desks that still hire
- Tariff motor, gone Official Injury Claim since May 2021; Civil Liability Act tariffs; Compensation Recovery Unit motor claims still falling. This is why volume personal injury left the payroll.
- Catastrophic and Court of Protection Birth-injury group actions, deputyship wrap, DoLS backlog. Medical-negligence and public-law NQs are still hired because case volume of catastrophic harm is not set by the discount rate.
- Employment and private-client tax Employment Rights Act 2025 through 2027; remittance-basis abolition and agricultural-relief cap. Mid-level laterals now; NQs as implementation capacity.
The Lord Chancellor reset the England-and-Wales Personal Injury Discount Rate from −0.25 percent to +0.5 percent from 11 January 2025, under the Damages Act 1996 as amended by the Civil Liability Act 2018, as the Government Actuary's Department announced on 2 December 2024. A higher rate produces a smaller cash lump sum for the same annual need. NHS Resolution, on 17 July 2025, said its provision still rose to £60.3 billion at 31 March 2025 despite that move, and recorded 14,428 new clinical claims and reported incidents in 2024/25, 83 percent of clinical claims resolved without proceedings, and £3.1 billion paid on clinical schemes, of which £1.3 billion related to maternity. Do not infer an NQ pay cut from the discount rate. Catastrophic volume is not set by the investment assumption.
Official Injury Claim, in its January–March 2026 data publication, restated that the portal has been live since the Whiplash Reform Programme on 31 May 2021, with 63,353 claims in that quarter and 96.1 percent including a whiplash-tariff element. The Law Gazette, on 22 January 2026, citing DWP Compensation Recovery Unit figures via ACSO, put 2025 motor injury claims at 282,428, down 14 percent, against 667,377 in 2018. That is why only four of 48 retained 2025 NQs went to Personal Injury, and why the surviving PI NQ is serious injury and asbestos, not Official Injury Claim tariff work. Lower-damages clinical-negligence fixed recoverable costs have been announced and not commenced: the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee, in Costs of clinical negligence, recorded that the required legislation was not introduced. Do not staff as if that scheme is live.
The BBC, on 24 June 2026, reported the Ockenden review of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust: about 2,500 families, 520 cases with potentially avoidable outcomes examined to May 2025. The firm's FY25 release had already named group actions including national NHS maternity safety issues in Leeds and Nottingham. That is medical-negligence demand through 2025–27 for NQ to about 6 PQE on birth-injury files, especially in Nottingham, Leeds, Birmingham and London. It is not a Magic Circle disputes seat.
Acas, last updated 2 September 2026, maps the Employment Rights Act 2025 from Royal Assent on 18 December 2025 through staged 2026–27 commencements: tribunal time limits to six months from 1 October 2026; unfair-dismissal qualifying period to six months and an uncapped compensatory award from 1 January 2027, as SI 2026/559 also provides. The live Leeds/Sheffield employment vacancy, accessed 11 September 2026, is already asking for 4–8 PQE on the employer side, in education and manufacturing. Do not wait for 2027 to hire the mid-levels. NQ employment in Business Services is the junior end of the same load.
Employer National Insurance is the cost-side constraint the firm itself named. HMRC's Autumn Budget 2024 measure, operative 6 April 2025, raised the secondary Class 1 rate from 13.8 percent to 15 percent and cut the Secondary Threshold from £9,100 to £5,000. On the published London NQ ceiling of £78,000 that is £10,950 of statutory employer NI, a payroll floor of £88,950 before pension, bonus, benefits or levy. On the London floor of £59,500 the NI line is £8,175 and the payroll floor is £67,675. On the regional ceiling of £57,000 the NI line is £7,800. Law Gazette, on 5 August 2026, reported that the firm attributed part of the FY26 trading-profit fall to the increase in national insurance contributions. That is a reason NQ bands may freeze even if Magic Circle moves. It is a cost shock for the payer, not a demand shock for the seat, and it is not evidence of an unpublished NQ cut.
Private-client demand is a tax cycle. GOV.UK, published 30 October 2024 and in force 6 April 2025, replaced the remittance basis with a residence-based regime. HMRC guidance updated 6 April 2026 caps combined 100 percent Agricultural Relief and Business Relief at £2.5 million for deaths on or after that date. Use the 2026 operational pages, not the Autumn Budget 2024 announcement figure of £1 million. DHSC, on 18 October 2025, put the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards backlog at 123,790 individuals and scheduled a Liberty Protection Safeguards consultation for the first half of 2026; LPS is not in force. Court of Protection and public-law NQs remain a 2026 hire while that backlog exists. Legal Aid Agency civil schedules for 2026–27 were due to be sent from 14 September 2026; a schedule cut would hit junior public-law seats first, not medical-negligence no-win-no-fee.
How a general counsel should run an Irwin Mitchell-scale hire
The cell is only useful if the brief is honest about which product you are buying: a London NQ, a regional clinical or Court of Protection seat, or a 4–8 PQE employment or real-estate lawyer whose pounds you cannot see.
Of those 19 company-side files, 7 needed a second shortlist after the first-choice candidate used the 12-working-day offer window to shop a Magic Circle or US-London print against the £59,500–£78,000 London cell. That is the finding that does not flatter the desk. The 2026 window is real for a general counsel who will not match £150,000. It is leaky for a company that opens on the NQ poster and then discovers the candidate wanted City pounds, or unpublished 4 PQE pounds, all along. Counter-offer incidence on that London associate desk is 35 percent; that rate is a defense cost, not a compliment.
A head of legal at a UK independent-schools group described the same constraint from the other side of the table: the board will fund an employment or safeguarding counsel who has sat with HR and a tribunal, and will not fund a Magic Circle newly qualified hire who has never opened an Education file. That is not a theory about lockstep. It is how a mid-market budget actually clears. The 12-day offer-to-acceptance window on our London associate telemetry is short enough that a candidate who wants to shop the Magic Circle print can do it inside the process. Budget that. Do not be surprised by it.
A composite from the company-side majority: a UK manufacturer's general counsel asked us to fill a 4–8 PQE employer-side employment seat in Leeds, reporting into the head of legal, with tribunal and handbook work ahead of the October 2026 and January 2027 Employment Rights Act commencements. The board would fund a mid-level print and would not fund Magic Circle NQ. We closed the search in 8 weeks, inside the 6-to-12-week envelope. The candidate who wanted the NQ ranking argument was not the candidate this board was buying.
A second composite, from the slower end of the envelope: a listed education group's head of legal tried to fill a first in-house claims-adjacent seat off the London NQ ceiling. The first-choice candidate used the 12-day window to shop a Magic Circle print. The file took 11 weeks, needed a second shortlist, and still completed inside the envelope. Opening on the commodity ranking cost a cycle. Naming claimant-clinical versus NQ at the first screening call would have saved it.
A third composite, from the regional book: a healthcare-adjacent company's general counsel wanted a Court of Protection and public-law junior in the North, not a London NQ. Cash off the regional table is lower. The search is not cheaper when the shortlist has already seen the City ceiling. We closed in 7 weeks once the brief named deputyship and Legal Aid-funded judicial review rather than “an Irwin Mitchell solicitor.”
- 01 · Which product? Write London NQ, regional clinical or Court of Protection, or 4–8 PQE employment and real estate as separate briefs. If you cannot say which, you are not ready to open a search.
- 02 · Which print? Price against the September 2026 employer cell and the July 2026 Magic Circle print, not against a hoped-for PQE grid. If the board will not fund £78,000, you are not matching this London NQ table.
- 03 · Which desk? Name the file: medical negligence, Court of Protection, employer-side employment, real estate, banking, private client. A generic Irwin Mitchell-scale commercial lawyer produces a shortlist for a job you do not have.
- → All three answered? Then run the search on the 6-to-12-week clock, budget a 35 percent counter-offer, and put the unpublished mid-level question in the first screening call rather than the fourth.
- Write the desk first. Claimant clinical, Court of Protection, employer-side employment or NQ. Secondment-to-hire is a different brief from a permanent in-house seat.
- Pull the employer cell, not a compilation blend. The training-contracts page on 11 September 2026 is the pounds. Legal Cheek's £79,000 headline is a different table.
- Budget the Magic Circle gap as a decision. £78,000 against £150,000 is a board paper. If you will not fund it, say so before the shortlist sees the number.
- Ask what the mid-level print is. The firm does not publish it. A candidate who will not say what they earn at 4 PQE is not ready to be matched in-house.
- Treat NHS Resolution and the Legal Aid Agency as counterparties, not employers of this NQ. They buy or oppose the work. They do not write this paycheck.
Sartori & Partners maps nearly 1.5 million lawyer profiles globally, with quarterly market surveys running since 2019. The London associate findings on this page — the 33 closed searches, the 35 percent counter-offer rate, the 12-day window, the 19 company-side files, the 7-of-19 second-shortlist rate — come from that program, not from a league table. The company-side route sits on our in-house counsel recruiting practice; the firm-side NQ and 1–3 PQE work sits on associate recruiting. What a chief legal officer costs on the company side sits on our general counsel salary 2026 benchmark.
Questions from both sides of the 2026 table
What is Irwin Mitchell nq salary in London for 2026?
London newly qualified base is £59,500–£78,000, dependent on practice area, on the employer's careers page accessed 11 September 2026. Regional NQ is £45,000–£57,000. Both are annual base before bonus. A Bank of England spot of 1.3531 USD per GBP on 10 September 2026 converts the London cell to about $80,500–$105,500. Legal Cheek's firm profile prints a different compilation (£60,000–£79,000). Do not average the two ceilings.
Does Irwin Mitchell publish a PQE associate lockstep?
No. A 1-to-8 PQE Irwin Mitchell lockstep is not public in 2026. Associate bands above NQ, senior-associate bands and legal-director cash are omitted here because they are not published. Treat any numbered mid-level band in a process as an internal print, not a market table.
What bonus sits on Irwin Mitchell associate pay in 2026?
A 2026 bonus percentage is not public. The employer benefits page confirms an annual performance-related bonus scheme for all, with no cap or outturn. GOV.UK's 2023–24 gender-pay filing shows 74.6 percent of women and 69.9 percent of men received bonus pay; that is participation, not a sterling pool.
What is Irwin Mitchell partner pay in 2026?
Profit per equity partner is not a public number. The firm is a corporate Alternative Business Structure; Law Gazette reported on 5 August 2026 that trading pre-tax profit of £16.5 million is after all partner remuneration. Do not divide that profit by 256 partners.
Should a general counsel match this NQ as a Magic Circle commodity?
No. Magic Circle London NQ sat at £150,000 on 21 July 2026; this firm's London ceiling is £78,000. That gap is real cash and a different product: claimant clinical negligence, Court of Protection and mid-market business services, not a City leveraged-finance seat.
How fast do London associate-to-in-house offers actually close?
Sartori's London associate desk records a median of 12 working days from offer to acceptance across 33 closed searches in three years. Counter-offer incidence on that line is 35 percent. Typical search 6 to 12 weeks. Completion 93 percent.
Employer careers pages, Legal Cheek tables, FY26 results and the London research program
NQ bases come from the employer's training-contracts page accessed 11 September 2026 and from dated Legal Cheek tables. Revenue and the PEP non-disclosure come from the Law Gazette and the firm. Destinations come from the August 2025 retention release. Sartori figures come from the London associate research program.

NQ figures are annual base salary before bonus, as published. London and regional cells are practice-area bands on the employer page accessed 11 September 2026. Legal Cheek's firm-profile ceiling of £79,000 is a different compilation; the two are not averaged. Irwin Mitchell does not publish a 1–8 PQE associate scale, a 2026 bonus quantum, or profit per equity partner. FY26 trading profit of £16.5 million is after partner remuneration. FY25 headline revenue of £329.3 million and FY26 press comparatives of £317.1–£317.3 million are left unresolved. USD figures are Bank of England spot conversions at 1.3531 on 10 September 2026, not published pay. NHS Resolution volumes and Legal Aid schedules describe counterparties and funders, not this firm's payroll.
Our own numbers — the interview cohort, the mandate telemetry, the counter-offer incidence and the offer-to-acceptance window — come from the continuous research program described on our research page.
