Reed Smith Salary 2026: Associate Scale, Bonus and Partner Pay
A general counsel matching Reed Smith in 2026 is matching a U.S. class-year start still printed at $225,000, a London newly qualified base of £135,000 from 4 March 2026, or a local desk whose 2026 figure is not public. This page is for the associate who earns those cells and the company that has to match them.
Pick the payroll. Then match it.
A general counsel matching Reed Smith in 2026 is matching one of three published payrolls, not a single global lockstep. Sartori maps roughly 67,000 lawyers in New York.
Reed Smith’s U.S. careers page, accessed 11 September 2026, still prints a starting salary of $225,000 for New Associates. That is the firm’s published first-year base, not a confirmed match of the 1 July 2026 market floor. A careers-page cell. Not a 2026 lockstep.
Three published grids answer the same query. The Reed Smith nq salary sits on the London payroll of that trio. A general counsel who matches the wrong grid loses the shortlist; an associate who quotes the wrong one walks into a compensation committee that has not named the desk. The dated table is below.
- $1.58B
- Reed Smith 2025 global revenue, up 5.6 percent — the capital stack that funds the published grids, not a paycheck.
- Reed Smith, 24 March 2026
- $2.02M
- Profits per equity partner on 2025 results, the first time the firm printed a figure above $2 million.
- Reed Smith, 24 March 2026
- $258.76M
- London office revenue for 2025, the firm's largest office, up 3 percent year over year.
- Reed Smith, 24 March 2026
Revenue, profits per equity partner, and London office revenue are the firm’s 24 March 2026 print for the 2025 year. They fund the grids; they are not the grids. Sartori’s global research program maps nearly 1.5 million lawyer profiles and has run quarterly market surveys since 2019; the New York associate desk is one city cut of that file.
Reed Smith salary, cell by cell, where it is public.
The first number a general counsel asks is which grid they are matching. The table below is every 2026 Reed Smith pay cell that is public, and every cell that is not.
Reed Smith’s published 2026 first-year U.S. base is still $225,000. That figure sits on the firm’s “Experienced lawyers and judicial clerks” page, accessed 11 September 2026, which states that New Associates receive a starting salary of $225,000 per year and that after the first year market-competitive salaries are adjusted each 1 January against published competencies. The page does not print a class-year dollar table for years 2 through 8. A Reed Smith associate salary after the junior year is therefore a structure, not a published ladder.
| Seat | Published figure | As-of date | What the cell is not |
|---|---|---|---|
| U.S. New Associate | $225,000 base | Careers page, live 11 Sep 2026 | Not a confirmed 2026 market match |
| U.S. years 2-8 | Not a public 2026 dollar grid | Structure from 1 Jul 2024 memo | Level A at 2,000 hours; senior Level A $415,000 in 2024 reporting |
| U.S. bonus | Mechanics only | Careers page, live 11 Sep 2026 | 2,000-hour non-discretionary; discretionary PGL; dollars not public |
| London NQ | £135,000 | Law360 UK, 4 Mar 2026 | Restated by Legal Cheek, 2 Jul 2026 |
| London trainee Y1 / Y2 | £55,000 / £60,000 | Firm trainee page, live 11 Sep 2026 | Not NQ |
| London hours target | 1,700 | Legal Cheek 2026-27 survey wave | Not the U.S. 2,000-hour gate |
| Hong Kong / Singapore / Paris NQ | Not public for 2025-26 | No dated 2025-26 page | Do not recycle 2021 EMEA bands |
| Partner cash | $2.02 million PPEP; net income >$502 million | Firm, 24 Mar 2026 (2025 year) | Not an individual partner paycheck |
This is Reed Smith’s public 2026 print. It is not the market-wide $235,000–$455,000 lockstep, not a bonus scale, and not an individual partner paycheck. Total cash depends on hours, bonus eligibility, and — on the U.S. side — whether the associate cleared the 2,000-hour gate.
| Rung | Reed Smith (published) | NALP first-year (1 Jan 2025) | Milbank / market (1 Jul 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| First-year base | $225,000 | $200,000 median overall; $225,000 mode | $235,000 |
| Top published U.S. associate base | $415,000 senior Level A (2024 memo) | $330,000 year-8 median (all firms) | $455,000 eighth-year |
NALP’s 2025 Associate Salary Survey, as of 1 January 2025 and reported in the June 2025 Bulletin and a 28 May 2025 press release covering 437 respondents, found that $225,000 was the most frequently reported first-year figure: 32.0 percent of offices overall and 44.7 percent of offices in firms of 701 or more lawyers. The overall median first-year base was $200,000; in firms of 701 or more it was $215,000. New York City’s median was already $225,000, reported by 56.5 percent of 23 New York City offices. The ABA Journal, on 29 May 2025, printed the all-associate median ladder across years 1 through 8: $200,000, $210,000, $220,625, $238,125, $255,000, $271,175, $286,700, and $330,000. Reed Smith’s still-live 2026 start therefore prints the 2025 mode, not the June 2026 market floor.
Above the Law’s running 2026 scorecard, opened 5 June 2026 and carrying dated matches through 31 August 2026, records Milbank as first mover on 2 June 2026: Class of 2026 and 2025 at $235,000, Class of 2018 at $455,000, presumed effective 1 July 2026. Reed Smith does not appear in that Raises table. TaxProf Blog, on 5 July 2026, quoting New York Times DealBook, put the first-year step at $10,000 to $235,000 and the eighth-year at $455,000. Biglaw Investor’s tracker, accessed 11 September 2026, lists those 2026 market bases as $235,000, $245,000, $270,000, $320,000, $385,000, $410,000, $440,000, and $455,000. Those figures describe the lockstep market. They are not Reed Smith’s published 2026 scale. A general counsel who underwrites $235,000 as “Reed Smith” is matching a comparator the firm has not put on its careers page. A general counsel matching Reed Smith is matching a payroll, not a rumor.
NALP overall median first-year base
As of 1 January 2025; 437 responding firms. The median, not the mode.
NALP 2025 Associate Salary Survey, June 2025 Bulletin ↗A general counsel matching Reed Smith is matching a payroll, not a rumor.
The associate earns a grid. The general counsel matches a title.
The payer of the published cells is Reed Smith LLP. When the same lawyer moves in-house, the buyer is a general counsel, chief legal officer, or head of legal who has to map that cell onto a company title.
Who funds the hoursWho writes the offer
- The client book Banks, sponsors, health systems, shipowners, studios, and policyholder corporates buy the hours. Their mandates are what make a published grid payable.
- The firm payroll U.S. class-year, London NQ, and local associate seats all sit here. Hours gates, competency reviews, and promotion calendars sit here with them.
- The in-house offer A general counsel, chief legal officer, or head of legal maps those cells onto a title, a bonus target, and a compensation-committee paper.
Across 1675 structured interviews with New York partners and counsel, 112 of 186 in-house hiring managers — general counsel, chief legal officer, deputy, or head of legal — over a 24-month window named which published grid they were matching as the first question a compensation committee asked. Of 94 New York associates on a U.S. hours-gated scale in the same cohort over that window, 61 said they would not move in-house unless total cash at least cleared the published New Associate base. The published cell is the number a compensation committee can see; the June floor is not. A head of legal who opens a requisition without naming the payroll is not matching Reed Smith. They are matching a different market.
The seat that posts the scale is a law-firm practice group, not an in-house title.
Reed Smith’s global careers hub, accessed 11 September 2026, describes a platform of 3,000 people including more than 1,600 lawyers across more than 30 offices. U.S. careers put more than 1,000 lawyers and over 900 professional staff in more than 20 U.S. offices. Public U.S. titles on those pages run Summer Associate, New Associate, Associate on a Junior / Mid-Level / Senior competency ladder, Counsel, and Partner. The U.S. law-students page recorded 2026 1L and 2027 2L summer programs as closed when accessed. Laterals and judicial clerks enter on the experienced-hire page that still prints the $225,000 start. From 5 January 2026, Above the Law reported on 21 November 2025, U.S. associates were expected in the office four days each week. That attendance rule is not a pay figure. It is a condition of remaining on the payroll that prints the figure.
London is the same firm on a different regulator. Trainees sit four seats, with at least one finance-focused and one litigation-focused department, on the early-careers page accessed 11 September 2026. A 2:1 degree (or equivalent) is the academic gate. SQE1 holders can apply directly for training contracts from March 2028. The Solicitors Regulation Authority’s qualifying work experience rules, updated 26 January 2024, require two years’ full-time QWE under Legal Services Act 2007 s. 12. The Lawyer, on 8 October 2024, reported 26 future trainees then on the firm’s Professional SQE Programme, with first SQE-qualified solicitors in 2025. That is a 2025–28 qualification clock, not a Cravath class-year clock.
Companies hire this talent later, onto titles whose cash has to clear a named cell.
The buyers who fund the hours sit on the firm’s own industry pages, accessed 11 September 2026: banks, financial institutions, and alternative lenders on Financial Services, including NAV loans and funds finance; health systems, medtech, pharma, and payors on Health Care & Life Sciences, with FDA and EU regulatory, pricing, and product-liability labels; owners, operators, lenders, and private-equity or private-credit investors in aviation, shipping, logistics, and LNG on Transportation; energy companies, traders, and PE energy investors on Energy & Natural Resources; studios, music, sports, adtech, and non-media corporates that have become media companies on Entertainment & Media. Insurance Recovery is written as a policyholder-side practice advising large operating companies, not as an insurer desk. Private equity is both a buyer and a hiring engine: the practice page describes the full sponsor ecosystem and portfolio-company work.
Alumni titles, anonymized from the firm’s Career Footprints index accessed 11 September 2026, show where those lawyers land: general counsel and corporate secretary; assistant and associate general counsel; senior counsel for product and regulatory; sole in-house counsel; a vice-president seat in an adjacent professional-services practice. Those are individual stories, not a census. They are the title set a chief legal officer actually holds when the lockstep cell has to be rewritten as a company band. Legal Cheek, on 15 May 2026, named Reed Smith best law firm for client secondments 2026, from a survey of 2,000-plus trainees and junior lawyers. Secondments are the documented bridge from firm seat to in-house desk. They are not a published in-house salary.
A general counsel at a private-equity-backed shipping platform told Sartori the compensation committee would approve Associate General Counsel cash against the London NQ cell and would not approve a U.S. class-year conversion of the same resume. That is the matching problem in one sentence: the in-house title can clear a named payroll, and it breaks when the paper pretends the three grids are one number.
Reed Smith nq salary is a London payroll, not a dollar conversion.
Base in London is a dated sterling cell. Bonus in the United States is an hours gate whose dollars are not public. Neither is a conversion of the other.
Law360 UK, on 4 March 2026, reported that Reed Smith had increased newly qualified salaries in its London office to £135,000 ($180,000). The remainder of that article is paywalled; the dated lede is the public figure. Legal Cheek’s 2026 firm profile, accessed 11 September 2026, states that NQ salaries have risen from £125,000 to £135,000, and that trainees will now earn £55,000 and £60,000. The firm’s own trainee page, accessed the same day, confirms those trainee bases and adds PGDL and SQE course fees plus a £15,000 maintenance grant. The prior public NQ was £125,000: The Lawyer dated that lift 10 July 2024, and Legal Cheek’s 11 November 2024 table of 100-plus UK NQ salaries listed Reed Smith at £125,000, below Magic Circle £150,000 and below U.S.-London lockstep names then at £170,000–£180,000. The March 2026 step is £10,000 on that prior cell. Do not convert $225,000 into sterling and call it London NQ. Law360’s own $180,000 conversion of the new cell already sits $45,000 below the U.S. start.
Legal Cheek’s 2026-27 survey wave puts the London annual target at 1,700 hours, against the U.S. 2,000-hour gate on the careers page. Those are different instruments on different regulators. The 2021 hours-banded London and EMEA NQ (£107,500 at 1,700 hours, £132,500 at 2,000 or more, £100,000 below 1,700), dated 15 November 2021 by Legal Cheek and The Lawyer, is historical. No 2025–26 page restates an EMEA-wide NQ. A 2026 “local” figure that is not on a careers page or a dated announcement is omitted here, not recycled from 2021.
A third UK credential path is not NQ at all. The firm, on 3 October 2025, announced an initial cohort of three London solicitor apprentices for 2026, a six-year path to LL.B. and SQE. The live apprenticeships page, accessed 11 September 2026, prints a starting salary of £27,000, increasing annually, plus a £2,000 sign-on for travel and housing, with ABB at A-level and at least seven GCSEs at grade 6 or above including Maths and English. Legal Cheek, on 7 October 2025, had reported a first-year of £26,500; the live firm page is the later public figure. Years 1–2 rotate through business services including Legal Engineering and Technology. That pipeline does not price a 2026 NQ, and it does not belong on a U.S. class-year offer letter.
The U.S. hours gate is older than the 2026 market move, and it is still the last public structure. Above the Law, on 21 March 2024, reporting a leaked memo, described most junior associates receiving straight Cravath matches; other associates who billed 2,000 hours or more going to Salary Level A (standard Cravath match except the most senior, who did not receive the then-market $420,000 or $435,000); associates under 2,000 hours going to Salary Level B, tens of thousands of dollars less; and a Level B associate who later hit 2,000 hours receiving a bonus equal to the A–B gap. Effective 1 July 2024. The ABA Journal, on 26 March 2024, summarizing the same memo, put juniors at $225,000, senior Level A at $415,000, and Level B tens of thousands below A. Reed Smith confirmed a compensation change to Law360 but did not publish a grid. Law360 Pulse, on 21 March 2024, confirmed the hours gate in its dated lede. A general counsel matching “Reed Smith” years 3 and up without asking Level A or Level B is matching a rumor. Bonus dollars are not public; the hours gate is.
The letter is funded by clients, billed in five industries.
A general counsel matching these cells is competing with a profit pool and a 2024-25 demand rebuild, not with a campus rumor.
The 2025 cells in the opening grid are the firm’s 24 March 2026 release: global revenue $1.58 billion (+5.6 percent), profits per equity partner $2.02 million (+11.3 percent), net income above $502 million, record revenue per lawyer $1.11 million, London $258.76 million (+3 percent), more than 180 lawyers added, 55 of them partners, 29 partners promoted globally, 34 offices, and 100 percent of associates and about 80 percent of partners trained in AI tools. Practices named as supporting net income: private equity, finance, litigation, tax, insurance recovery, and labor and employment. Individual partner pay is not in that release.
The step into that print is 2024. The firm, on 12 March 2025, reported global revenue exceeding $1.5 billion, RPL up 11.5 percent and breaking $1 million, PEP of $1.8 million (+13.8 percent), London revenue up 15 percent to $247 million, and London RPL up 29.8 percent to $946,720, on fewer timekeepers than 2023 and $75 million more revenue. Above the Law, on 21 November 2025, cited 2024 gross revenue of $1,504,888,000 and rank 37 on the then-most-recent Am Law 100. Global Legal Post, on 12 March 2025, independently put 2024 revenue above $1.5 billion from $1.43 billion, PEP at $1.8 million, London at $247 million, London RPL near $947,000, and London at more than 350 lawyers. The firm’s London page, accessed 11 September 2026, says over 300 lawyers. Band London in the 300–400 range. Do not pick a single undated headcount.
The trough behind that rebuild is dated. Above the Law, on 14 June 2023, citing The American Lawyer, reported a cut of about 2 percent of the global workforce: around 50 employees, about 20 staff and 30 lawyers, attributed by the firm to a reduced level of demand. 2022 revenue in that report was $1,417,599,000, Am Law 100 rank 29 in the 2023 ranking. 2023 removed seats. 2025 put more than 180 lawyers back. A general counsel matching 2026 cash is matching a firm that has already lived through the last measured demand destruction on this platform.
The UK statutory gender pay gap report for 2025, covering only London and Leeds, is not a U.S. associate scale and is not equal pay for the same role. Associates in that filing were 63 percent women and 37 percent men. The mean staff gender pay gap moved from 13.3 percent to 22.1 percent; the median from 30.7 percent to 37.5 percent. Mean bonus gap moved from 23.5 percent to 46.1 percent. It is a statutory snapshot of two UK offices, not a dollar to put on a New York offer letter.
The letter pays first-years. The 2026 joiners sat on named desks.
The only dated 2026 NQ headcount by desk is one London qualification round. U.S. mid-level demand shows up as promotions, an Atlanta PE lift, and a Singapore spec with no salary.
Campus and trainee lockstepNamed 2026 desks
- London NQ Autumn qualifiers kept into named London groups. One round, not an annual demand series.
- U.S. PE / finance Atlanta opened a private-equity, M&A, finance and technology team.
- Transportation / GRE FuelEU, CII, and sanctions files sit in London, New York, and Houston. Mid-level, not first-year factory.
- Local Asia Hong Kong is a training-contract pipeline. Singapore posted an asset-finance seat with no salary.
The firm, on 30 June 2026, retained 11 of 12 qualifying trainees in the September 2026 London round; all 11 accepted permanent London roles. Practice groups named: Employment; Transportation; Global Commercial Disputes; Financial Industry Group; Corporate (Tax); Corporate / Competition; Real Estate; Entertainment & Media; Energy & Natural Resources. Legal Cheek, on 2 July 2026, restated the same list and the £135,000 NQ, and noted the Firms Most List 2026 shows around 26 training contracts a year. Legal Cheek’s profile lists 24. Use 11 of 12 as which desks hired, not as a retention essay; UK NQ retention as a topic sits on a separate page.
U.S. associate demand that is actually evidenced is mid-level and geographic, not a first-year lockstep surge. Atlanta, on 30 January 2025, added a 37-lawyer private-equity, M&A, finance and technology team: 15 partners, 2 counsel, and 20 associates. Boston’s office page lists PE, private credit, financial services, and life sciences. PitchBook 2024 league tables, via the firm on 5 March 2025, placed Reed Smith in the top 25 by PE and M&A deal count in named U.S. and sector categories, with no deal-value or fee total on that page. The 2026 promotion class, effective 1 January 2026, moved 29 lawyers to partner and 30 to counsel across 21 offices. Global Legal Post, on 2 February 2026, put 24 of 29 new partners in the United States (New York 4, Philadelphia 4, Pittsburgh 3) and 4 in London (corporate, structured finance, energy, disputes), plus one Singapore finance partner. Partner promotions by group: financial industry 7, global corporate 6, global commercial disputes 3, insurance recovery 3, life sciences health 2, energy and natural resources 2, global regulatory enforcement 2, with the remainder in entertainment and media, tax, real estate, and IP. Counsel: 17 U.S., 13 Europe of whom 11 London. Women were 48 percent of the cohort. Those counts are capitalization, not pay.
Asia is a local credential, not a dollar conversion of $225,000. The Hong Kong join-us page, accessed 11 September 2026, describes around 100 fee earners, approximately six training contracts a year, an aim to retain 100 percent, 2028 vacancies already filled, and a fluency gate in English and Cantonese and/or Mandarin. Vacation schemes run about 16 summer and eight winter places. The 2026 Hong Kong NQ salary is not on any page. Singapore’s join-us page describes an 80-strong office. The one public Asia associate spec accessed the same day is a Singapore litigation / asset-finance seat at 2–4 PQE for shipping and aviation, clients including financial institutions, private credit, export-credit agencies, leasing companies, and Fortune 500 names, with no salary on the posting. Asia careers put around 150 fee earners across China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Riyadh, licensed 26 June 2025 and opened 20 October 2025, is a locally qualified corporate seat under a Saudi Ministry of Justice license. It is not the U.S. class-year and not the London NQ.
Bonus dollars are not public; the hours gate is.
The pay clock is frozen. The work clock is not.
Mid-level life-sciences, transportation, sanctions, and PE seats stay open. First-year U.S. cash has not followed Milbank.
A dated ruleThe seat it actually funds
- IRA prices Maximum Fair Prices now bind negotiated Part D drugs. Mid-level life-sciences regulatory, not NQ lockstep.
- FuelEU and CII Fuel-intensity and carbon-intensity rules now bind EEA-calling ships. London transportation, NQ to mid-level.
- OFAC designations Shadow-fleet rounds sit on Global Regulatory Enforcement in New York, London, and Houston. Mid-senior.
- PE rebuild A late-cycle M&A uptick, then Atlanta and Boston. U.S. associates, not a London NQ surge.
Life-sciences demand is live because a statute is in force, not because a lockstep moved. CMS, on 15 August 2024, published Maximum Fair Prices for ten Part D drugs under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (P.L. 117-169), effective 1 January 2026. Those ten drugs accounted for $56.2 billion, about 20 percent, of Part D gross covered prescription drug costs in 2023; CMS estimated $6 billion net savings if those prices had applied in 2023, and $1.5 billion in beneficiary savings in 2026 under the defined standard benefit. Reed Smith’s Health Care & Life Sciences page lists Drug & Device Pricing and Reimbursement, FDA and EU Regulatory, Investigations, and Transactions as live labels. The seniority that runs reimbursement, CID response, and formulary disputes is mid-level to counsel in Princeton, Washington, D.C., and Brussels. NQ volume is not evidenced as an IRA-driven spike.
Transportation demand is live on two maritime clocks. Reed Smith’s 24 May 2024 FuelEU note, and Regulation (EU) 2023/1805, put FuelEU Maritime in force from 1 January 2025 for ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EEA ports, with 100 percent of energy on intra-EEA voyages and 50 percent on voyages starting or ending outside the EEA. IMO resolution MEPC.400(83), adopted 11 April 2025, sets the 2026 CII reduction factor at 11 percent versus 2019, then 13.625 percent in 2027 through 21.500 percent in 2030. OFAC, on 24 February 2025, added shadow-fleet tankers to the SDN List; Treasury, on 20 March 2025, described a fourth round of Iran oil-sales sanctions since National Security Presidential Memorandum 2 on 4 February 2025. Those files sit on London Transportation and on Global Regulatory Enforcement in New York, London, and Houston. They are not a first-year factory, and they are not a Riyadh U.S. scale.
Sartori’s New York associate mandate telemetry records 33 closed searches over the trailing three years, at a 93 percent completion rate, on a typical 6 to 12 week timeline, with a 37 percent counter-offer incidence and a median of 11 working days from offer to acceptance. Nineteen of those 33 were company-side seats; 12 of those 19 were priced against a named published grid. Two of 19 company-side searches did not fill after the compensation committee refused to choose U.S. class-year, London NQ, or a local guess. That stall is ours as much as theirs: we took the mandate, ran the shortlist, and still could not place it. In the four quarterly survey waves from the third quarter of 2025 through the second quarter of 2026, 38 of 71 New York in-house respondents on the associate-hiring question — a cut of that same interview cohort — said their approved band sat below the published U.S. New Associate cell once the 2,000-hour Level A / Level B split was explained. A head of legal at a New York financial-services company told us they lost a mid-level Financial Industry Group associate because the internal Senior Counsel band could not see Level A, and the stay counter could. A signing bonus does not rewrite a paper that never asked which level.
Underwrite the grid, then title the seat so the band can clear it.
A general counsel matching Reed Smith cash is matching a payroll, not a first-year. The in-house stack has to be built to the cell you actually need, or the search will fail on paper rather than on people.
We have worked the New York associate market for more than 10 years, for companies that need to put a lockstep-scale lawyer on their own payroll and for firms that still pay the published cell. Over the last three years we closed 33 associate searches at a 93 percent completion rate, on a typical 6 to 12 week timeline. The composites below are that desk, anonymized by category. No real company, firm, or lawyer is named.
A shipping platform. A private-equity-backed owner-operator asked for an Associate General Counsel who could allocate FuelEU penalties in charterparties. The shortlist was London transportation NQs and 1–4 PQE shipping associates. The compensation committee cleared the £135,000 NQ cell and refused a U.S. class-year conversion of the same resume. We titled the seat to the sterling payroll, and signed in 11 working days — the same median our New York associate telemetry records — because the band had been built to the London grid before anyone was approached. The U.S. start never entered the paper. The dated NQ did.
A life-sciences issuer. A chief legal officer needed a pricing and reimbursement lawyer who could run a CID after Maximum Fair Prices took effect on 1 January 2026. The internal band topped at Senior Counsel. A mid-level on a U.S. hours-gated letter declined after the stay counter cleared Level A and the in-house paper could not. That file is one of the two company-side searches in our New York associate book that did not fill. The constraint was the committee, not the shortlist.
A financial-services company. A New York head of legal needed a funds-finance lawyer off a Financial Industry Group diet. The company matched the published New Associate cell plus a short-term incentive, and asked Level A or B in the requisition before anyone was called. The June market floor never entered the paper. The careers-page cell did. Class-year credit and the hours gate, not the headline first-year, were the numbers that mattered.
If you are the associate reading the careers page, the cell you earn in the United States is $225,000 until a new memo exists; in London it is £135,000 from 4 March 2026; bonus is hours-gated and not published in dollars. If you are the general counsel, chief legal officer, or head of legal matching it, pick the payroll in writing, title the seat so the band can clear that cell, and decide whether you are underwriting the careers page or waiting for a match that has not been announced. That conversation is an in-house counsel search, not a campus rumor, and it starts with a private brief. The wider in-house stack, independent of this firm’s grids, sits on our general counsel salary benchmark and the salary hub.
Reed Smith pay: both readers, six answers
What is the 2026 Reed Smith nq salary in London?
Reed Smith's London newly qualified base is £135,000 from 4 March 2026, as Law360 UK reported that day. Legal Cheek restated the same cell on 2 July 2026 and on its 2026 firm profile. That is a sterling payroll. It is not a conversion of the U.S. New Associate cell, and it is not a Hong Kong or Singapore figure. Trainee bases on the firm's own page, accessed 11 September 2026, are £55,000 then £60,000. A general counsel matching a London NQ should underwrite £135,000, not a dollar lockstep.
What is Reed Smith associate salary in the United States in 2026?
The published U.S. New Associate base is still $225,000 on the firm's careers page, accessed 11 September 2026. After the first year the same page describes competency adjustments each 1 January; it does not print a class-year dollar table for years 2 through 8. The last public U.S. structure, reported by Above the Law on 21 March 2024 and by the ABA Journal on 26 March 2024, is hours-gated from 1 July 2024: Level A at 2,000 hours or more, Level B below that. Senior Level A was reported at $415,000 in that 2024 memo. Bonus dollars are not public.
Did Reed Smith match the June 2026 Milbank associate scale?
Not on the public record as of 11 September 2026. Above the Law's 2026 raise scorecard, opened 5 June 2026 with dated matches through 31 August 2026, lists Milbank as first mover on 2 June 2026 at $235,000 to $455,000 and does not name Reed Smith as a matcher. TaxProf Blog, 5 July 2026, quoting New York Times DealBook, put the first-year step at $10,000 to $235,000. The firm's own U.S. careers page had not moved the $225,000 start.
What is Reed Smith partner pay in 2026?
Profits per equity partner were $2.02 million on 2025 results, announced 24 March 2026, with net income above $502 million. That is an average over equity partners, not a named partner's draw. Nonequity and individual partner bands are not public and are not estimated here. A general counsel reads PPEP as the profit pool that has been funding associate cash, not as the number to put on an in-house offer letter.
How should a general counsel match Reed Smith pay on an in-house offer?
Pick the payroll first: U.S. class-year, London NQ, or a local grid that is not public. Then title the seat so the band can clear that cell. Sartori's New York associate desk closed 33 searches over three years at a 93 percent completion rate; two of 19 company-side files in that book did not fill after the compensation committee would not choose a grid. A signing bonus does not rewrite a paper that never named the payroll.
What is the Reed Smith bonus for 2026?
Bonus mechanics are public; bonus dollars are not. The U.S. careers page, accessed 11 September 2026, requires 2,000 total hours for the non-discretionary component and lets the practice-group leader recommend a discretionary bonus with no minimum billable hours. Associates hired on or before 1 October are eligible that calendar year. Above the Law, 21 November 2025, recorded a four-day U.S. office rule from 5 January 2026 and did not print a Reed Smith year-end dollar scale. This page does not estimate those cells.
The careers page, the March 2026 London lift, and the 2025 financials.
Associate bases are Reed Smith's own careers tables. London NQ is Law360 UK and Legal Cheek. Comparators are the Milbank June 2026 raise and NALP office-reported first-year bases. PPEP and revenue are the firm's 2025 release. New York cohort reads and mandate telemetry are Sartori's.
