Our client, a leading independent Australian law firm, is seeking an experienced Lawyer or Associate to join its thriving General Insurance practice in Sydney. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity with a highly regarded team.

The role focuses on property liability and defence matters, along with other general insurance work, including professional indemnity exposure. You will act for a range of leading national and international insurers and will have carriage of your own files, with appropriate supervision.

The national General Insurance team is one of the largest in Australia and is consistently recognised as a market leader, sitting on the legal panels of top general insurers locally and internationally. The team actively embraces AI in its work, where clients permit.

Key responsibilities:

  • Drafting client advices and legal correspondence
  • Reviewing documents and preparing evidence
  • Conducting legal research
  • Conferencing with witnesses and preparing witness statements
  • Preparing briefs for counsel
  • Drafting Court documents and attending Court
  • Drafting letters of instruction to experts and conferencing with them

About you:

  • At least 18 months of post-admission experience in general insurance law (such as recoveries, liability defence, or professional indemnity)
  • Strong experience in recoveries and property damage liability claims will be highly regarded
  • Clear, concise legal writing skills and outstanding attention to detail
  • A team player with a 'can do' attitude and a strong interest in defendant insurance law
