A highly regarded law firm seeks a junior to midlevel associate to join its nationally recognized energy practice in San Francisco. The role sits within a high-demand, expanding team working at the intersection of regulation, climate policy, infrastructure investment, and emerging energy demands.

The associate will advise developers and operators of generation, storage, transmission, and other energy infrastructure; data center clients with complex energy and interconnection needs; community choice aggregators, power marketers, demand response providers, large energy consumers, trade associations, and other market participants; and electric and natural gas utilities. The work spans regulatory, project development, and transactional matters, including large infrastructure projects and the rapidly growing data center segment.

Responsibilities include advising on a broad range of Western state (and occasionally other state and federal) energy regulatory and policy matters; supporting clients in regulatory proceedings and compliance; and handling transmission and grid infrastructure, ratemaking, change-of-control proceedings, interconnection and large-load issues, natural gas infrastructure, and environmental attributes of power supply. The associate will also assist with regulatory and diligence work on energy infrastructure transactions, conduct legal research, draft filings and client memoranda, and support agency interactions.

The firm offers direct client exposure, meaningful responsibility, and strong mentorship in a collegial, team-oriented environment.

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice in California or another relevant U.S. jurisdiction
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in energy regulatory, project development, or energy infrastructure matters
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Experience with electric and/or natural gas regulatory or infrastructure matters
  • Familiarity with interconnection, grid infrastructure, or energy project development; hydropower licensing or permitting experience beneficial but not required
  • Large law firm, government agency, or energy industry experience preferred
