Health Law Special Counsel — Managed Care & PBM Contracting

A nationally recognized Health Law Practice seeks a Special Counsel with substantial commercial contracting experience in managed care or the pharmaceutical supply chain to support a team advising health plans on their contracting relationships with pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and other pharmaceutical supply chain vendors.

The role involves leading and managing all aspects of commercial contracting matters, including drafting, negotiating, and advising on PBM contracts and PBM-related services agreements such as rebate contracts, pharmacy network contracts, and other vendor arrangements. The Special Counsel will lead the contracting lifecycle for PBM procurements, serve as a primary client contact, and counsel clients on health plan operations, complex regulatory frameworks, transactional considerations, and contract disputes. Supervision of associates is expected, with occasional travel to client sites for meetings and negotiations.

The position is based in New York or Washington, DC, with an expectation of working from the office approximately 60% of the time in accordance with firm guidelines.

• Substantial transactional experience in the managed care or pharmaceutical supply chain industries
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, managing multiple contract workflows, and coordinating with clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel
• JD or LLM from an ABA-accredited law school
• Admitted to or eligible for admission in New York or Washington, DC
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, and close attention to detail
• Ability to independently lead day-to-day client engagements, contract negotiations, and work streams while communicating closely with partners and team members
• Ability to balance and prioritize multiple competing priorities and respond quickly and effectively to client needs
• Collaborative and effective in team settings
