A global law firm
Apply in confidence →An international law firm is seeking an associate lawyer to join its insurance litigation group in Vancouver. The role centres on general insurance and professional indemnity work, with a broader commercial disputes focus, and offers involvement in every stage of litigation — mediations, arbitrations, trials and appeals.
The successful candidate will work alongside senior lawyers and partners on a wide range of general litigation matters, while developing their own advocacy and client-relationship skills in an entrepreneurial, collegial team environment.
Responsibilities include drafting pleadings, motion materials, factums and pre-trial and mediation memoranda; conducting research and legal analysis; preparing correspondence to opposing counsel and clients; and managing client relations. The associate will prepare for and attend examinations for discovery and mediations, appear in court on motions and pre-trials (independently or with senior counsel), and assist with trial and hearing preparation and attendance.
The firm offers hybrid work flexibility, flexible paid time off, performance and monthly bonus potential, mentorship and global training programs, comprehensive health and disability benefits, and a fully paid six-month parental leave for all parents.
- Common law degree from a recognized university and membership in good standing with the British Columbia Bar (or qualification to practise in BC).
- Two to four years of post-qualification experience in private practice or in-house, with a focus on general insurance and professional indemnity.
- Experience in coverage analysis under insurance policies considered an asset.
- Excellent legal writing and communication skills, with sound judgment, strong analytical ability and creative problem-solving.
- Proven advocacy talent and the ability to develop and present clear strategies to clients.
- High integrity, intellectual rigour and strong interpersonal skills.
- Entrepreneurial spirit, a keen interest in business development, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
