Seeking a data protection specialist to join an established General Counsel & Compliance team in Birmingham. The role provides specialist legal advice on privacy, data security and regulatory compliance across the organisation, acting as a subject-matter expert and trusted adviser.

Day-to-day responsibilities include advising on data protection obligations, managing breach response and regulatory notifications, handling data subject requests, and leading privacy audits and risk assessments. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and clear communication of complex issues to legal and non-legal stakeholders.

  • Qualified lawyer with at least 3 years' post-qualification experience (private practice, in-house or regulator) with strong data protection expertise
  • Proven experience managing data breaches, data subject requests and regulatory notifications
  • Comfortable advising on international data transfers and multi-jurisdictional privacy issues
  • Effective communicator, able to influence senior stakeholders and present complex legal issues clearly
  • Desirable: privacy certifications (e.g. CIPP/BCS), information security or data governance experience
