Patent Agent/Advisor (Medtech)

An established patent counseling and prosecution practice is seeking a motivated patent agent or advisor with substantive industry experience to support a busy, cross-disciplinary docket. The team handles patentability and freedom-to-operate work across a broad range of chemical, materials, and biomedical technologies.

Responsibilities include conducting prior-art database searches for patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses, reviewing patents and scientific literature to support prosecution, counseling, and litigation, and drafting patent applications and responses to office actions.

The role calls for broad scientific knowledge across mechanical and/or biomedical engineering, with the ability to move fluidly between technical disciplines. Candidates must be registered US patent agents or be eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam. Law school tuition assistance is available for patent agent candidates.

• At least one year of law firm experience
• Degree in materials, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering (or a related field); advanced degree a plus
• Substantive industry experience with knowledge across chemical engineering or materials science technologies
• Broad scientific knowledge in mechanical and/or biomedical engineering
• Registered US patent agent, or eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam
• Superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English
• Initiative, fast learning, and strong collaboration skills
