We are expanding our Charities and Non-Profit practice and are looking for a Senior Associate or Legal Director to join the team. This role can be based in one of our offices across the UK and offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and high-profile client base.

The team is well regarded for advising charities and not-for-profit organisations, particularly within the health, social care, and education sectors. Our clients range from large household names to smaller community organisations, and we are known for combining commercial and pragmatic advice with a genuine understanding of each client’s objectives.

You will manage your own caseload, support the lead partner on larger projects, supervise junior team members, and contribute to business development initiatives.

Typical work includes:

  • Advising trustees on their duties and responsibilities
  • Advising on charity start-ups and registrations, including appropriate legal structures
  • Working with various structures such as charitable companies, CIOs, royal charter corporations, unincorporated associations, and social enterprises
  • Constitutional reviews and governance modernisation, including applications to the Charity Commission
  • Advising on governance issues, conflicts of interest, disputes, and governance reviews
  • Strategic advice on commercial matters, growth, and relationships with non-charitable entities
  • Transactions including mergers, acquisitions, and disposals
  • Grant agreements, fundraising, and endowment matters
  • Serious incident reporting and liaison with the Charity Commission
  • Cross-specialist advice on property, banking, insolvency, and employment issues
  • Non-primary purpose trading, trading subsidiaries, and subsidiary relationships
  • Supporting business development and tender preparation
  • Excellent relationship and client handling skills
  • Strong technical skills and ability to work through complex issues
  • Team-oriented with experience mentoring and supervising junior lawyers
  • Exposure to business development and a track record of success
  • Confident communicator with the ability to develop relationships and undertake client marketing
  • In-house charity experience considered
  • Flexible on location
