Apply in confidence →An international law firm is seeking a talented lawyer with 3–8 years of PQE to join its Projects team within its Finance & Projects department in Johannesburg. The team is active in the infrastructure and energy sectors, advising on projects across South Africa and the wider African continent, as well as several other jurisdictions.
The role sits within a highly regarded Projects Group, offering exposure to complex, high-value transactions and the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in a strategic, high-growth sector. You will also contribute to business development initiatives and thought leadership.
- 3–8 years of post-qualification experience in a leading infrastructure and/or energy practice.
- Excellent legal skills with a working knowledge of energy regulatory frameworks, including the regulation of electricity generation, transmission, distribution and trading.
- Experience advising on energy projects and drafting, reviewing and negotiating power purchase agreements (including wheeling arrangements), implementation agreements and connection agreements.
- Ability to lead and manage complex energy project transactions from inception through to completion.
- Experience working effectively as part of an international team on cross-border projects.
- Strong people management skills, with the ability to supervise, mentor and develop junior lawyers.
- A proactive, commercially minded approach and genuine interest in energy regulation.
