Regulatory Solicitor / Associate – Safety, Health & Environment (Manchester)

An opportunity has arisen in a national regulatory team for a solicitor or associate to focus on safety, health and environmental work. The team advises individuals and organisations facing criminal investigations for corporate and gross negligence manslaughter and breaches of regulatory law across health and safety, fire safety, food safety and environmental matters. Work also covers product safety, representations in inquests and involvement in public inquiries.

The practice comprises over 30 specialist lawyers across several locations and is expanding in response to client and case demand. The teams across major industries instruct the group on a number of high-profile cases and investigations, and there is a substantial and sustainable pipeline of work.

This role is part of a national push to strengthen the team, with a particular focus on the North West region. Candidates will manage a varied caseload of contentious and non-contentious regulatory issues, act as a client point of contact, and support business development through pitches, presentations and training. There is scope to build client relationships from an early stage, with partner and legal director support, and to work alongside colleagues in complementary practice groups.

• At least 5 years' PQE gained in a regulatory and/or commercially focused environment, in private practice or elsewhere
• Experience advising on regulatory matters including HSE or police investigations, witness interviews, interviews under caution, prosecutions, sentencing hearings and inquests
• Experience of preparing PACE submissions to regulators and providing non-contentious compliance advice
• Additional experience in areas such as environmental breaches, trading standards, product safety, food safety, fire safety or vehicle operator licence issues would be beneficial
• Demonstrated business development and client relationship-building experience
• Willingness to travel at short notice to support clients managing live situations; a driving licence is preferable
• Sound file management, accurate billing and reporting, and a commitment to continuing technical development
