A global private client and tax practice is seeking a trusts and estates associate to join its team in San Diego. The role focuses on sophisticated estate planning and administration for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, including those with cross-border ties.

Working closely with partners, paralegals, and other associates, you will manage complex matters from start to finish—handling planning, drafting, compliance, and client coordination. The practice also advises fiduciaries on trust administration and works on charitable planning, often in an international context.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, a practical approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to delivering seamless client service. This role also offers opportunities to contribute to the team’s profile through business development and internal mentorship.

  • J.D. required; Tax LL.M. preferred.
  • 4–6 years of experience in a law firm trusts and estates group.
  • Active California bar membership required.
  • Proven ability to manage a busy practice, including time recording, deadlines, and project ownership.
  • Strong experience in estate planning, trust administration, and tax matters.
  • Familiarity with irrevocable trusts (e.g., CRUTs, GRATs, IDGTs, ILITs, QPRTs) and charitable planning.
  • Skill in preparing and reviewing estate and gift tax returns.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to build lasting client relationships.
  • Interest in mentoring junior team members and contributing to practice development.
