NQ retention rates UK 2026: firm by firm.

On 8 September 2026 Clifford Chance kept 37 of 45 autumn newly qualified solicitors. This is the UK table behind that cell — for the qualifier who earns a stay, and for the London general counsel who later hires from the desk a bonus story never names.

NQ retention is a headcount, not a bonus story.

On 8 September 2026 Legal Cheek reported that Clifford Chance kept 37 of 45 autumn-qualifying trainees. Across 750 structured interviews with London associates and in-house counsel, general counsel said they cannot staff a 2027 seat from a percentage.

The 2026 count, as published, with the geography still attached.

A retention rate without a city and a contract type is a press line. The rows below keep the numerator, the round, and whether the denominator is London or national.

We have worked the London associate market for more than 10 years, for companies putting a lawyer on the payroll and for firms filling the class that feeds them. Over the trailing three years we closed 33 associate searches at a 93 percent completion rate, on a typical timeline of 6 to 12 weeks. The public table the general counsel now screens is not our file. It is a set of firm announcements, dated, incomplete, and useful only if you refuse to average it.

Sort by retained headcount and Pinsent’s national autumn round jumps the Magic Circle. Sort by geography and it falls back. Baker McKenzie’s London autumn cell is 8 of 12 (67 percent, all permanent) against a spring 17 of 20 (85 percent) — RollOnFriday, 11 September 2026, and The Lawyer live. That is one firm, one city, two rounds, two products. A single “Baker retention” does not exist in 2026.

Autumn 2026 counts for Freshfields, Linklaters and Slaughter and May had not printed on the live round-ups we opened and are omitted rather than estimated. US-firm London 2025 rounds sit in the prose, not here, because they are a different year.

Combining Clifford Chance’s two published 2026 rounds gives 75 retained of 95 qualifiers. Combining A&O Shearman’s two published 2026 rounds gives 66 of 86. Those sums are ours, from the Legal Cheek numerators, not a firm-issued annual percentage. They are the closest 2026 Magic Circle year in print, and they still leave three autumn cells blank.

A percentage without a numerator is a press release, not a staffing plan.
On reading the cell
03 What it hides

Four facts a headline rate will not carry.

Applications, funded offers, acceptances, and the desk the NQ will sit on are four different numbers. Most autumn Magic Circle announcements publish one of them.

The press lineThe staffing fact

  1. The percentage A round, not a firm. Useful for ranking a press release. Useless for a requisition that has a practice name on it.
  2. The numerator How many newly qualified solicitors actually stay. This is the unit a general counsel can put against a 2027 hiring plan.
  3. Contract, then desk Permanent versus fixed-term, then corporate versus disputes versus finance. Without those, the cell is a headcount with no job attached.

Clifford Chance’s autumn 2026 announcement, as Legal Cheek printed it on 8 September 2026, is unusually complete on the application chain and silent on everything a company needs next: all 45 applied, 37 offers, all 37 accepted, and then nothing on practice area or fixed-term status. A&O Shearman’s autumn piece of 31 July 2026 does the opposite on contract type — all 34 permanent — and is equally silent on desks. The spring A&O chain, recorded on The Lawyer live blog on 18 December 2025, is the rare Magic Circle cut that shows internal demand: 40 of 42 remaining trainees applied, 35 offers were made, 32 accepted. Offers are the seats the firm funded. Applications are the seats the trainees wanted. They are not the same. Ashurst’s spring 2026 round, on the same live blog on 6 March 2026, is the small-cohort version: all 20 applied, 18 offers, 17 accepted, with destinations named without a headcount per seat — corporate, dispute resolution, global loans, global markets, projects and energy, real estate, planning and environment.

A general counsel at a FTSE 100 insurer told us they can use 37 people and cannot use 82 percent. That was not a joke about numeracy. It was a refusal to brief a corporate seat from a cell that does not say how many of the 37 will sit in corporate. Hogan Lovells, by contrast, did publish a spring 2026 split on 17 April 2026: six to corporate and finance; five to litigation, arbitration and employment; three to global regulatory and IP. Two of the 14 retained were on fixed-term contracts. The Cadwalader combination vote was still pending when that cell converted, and the combined Hogan Lovells Cadwalader platform launched on 1 July 2026 with more than 3,200 lawyers. The spring NQs were a Hogan Lovells product. The next rounds sit in a larger finance and regulatory machine.

Addleshaw Goddard’s autumn 2026 round, on The Lawyer live blog of 19 August 2026, is the national cell that bothers to name offices: 43 of 50 kept, of whom 16 were London, 10 Leeds, eight Manchester, nine Scotland, with destinations in finance and projects, corporate and commercial, disputes, and real estate. Fieldfisher, 9 July 2026 on the same blog, kept 17 of 20, 13 of them in London. A London general counsel who needs a London newly qualified solicitor cannot treat 43 and 17 as comparable to Clifford Chance’s 37 without first cutting the non-London names out of the first two.

Mishcon de Reya autumn 2026 practice destinations for the 19 retained, including two solicitor apprentices whose associate start is February 2027. The Lawyer live blog, 3 September 2026. Magic Circle autumn cells in the same window did not publish an equivalent split.

The Lawyer live trainee-retention 2026 blog, 3 September 2026 entry.

Mishcon kept 19 of 22 in autumn 2026 (Legal Cheek, 7 September 2026): 17 qualify as solicitors and start as associates in September 2026; two are on the six-year solicitor apprenticeship and are due to qualify in February 2027. Counting those two in an autumn 2026 “kept” cell is honest about the pipeline and loose about the September start date. A company hiring for a January 2027 in-house seat is not hiring those two.

04 Who earns the cell

For the qualifier, the desk is the decision. The base is the backdrop.

A trainee solicitor reading this table is asking whether they have a job in September. NQ salary London is the number that sits next to that job. It is not the number that created the cell.

Of 126 newly qualified solicitors and 1-PQE associates in that same cohort over an 18-month window, 94 named the practice desk they would sit on — not the headline percentage — as the fact that decided whether they stayed. That is a cut inside the interview file, not a second survey. A disputes qualifier does not “stay at 77 percent.” They stay if there is a disputes seat, on a contract that is not six months long.

The pay print moved around the table rather than through it. Legal Cheek restated on 21 July 2026 that the five Magic Circle firms still pay a London NQ base of £150,000, the figure first locked in the 29 September 2025 “Money talks” table after the May 2024 jump from £125,000. Macfarlanes matched £150,000 from 1 July 2026 (from £140,000). Baker McKenzie London matched from early July 2026 (from £145,000). Macfarlanes then kept 24 of 29 autumn qualifiers, all permanent, after that raise. The 2026 retention table moved while Magic Circle base did not. Why a freeze still loses people is a different article.

Legal Cheek Firms Most List ↗

Across 100-plus Firms Most List outfits, Legal Cheek’s 29 September 2025 table put average NQ salary at £118,756, up nearly 5 percent on the prior year’s report, with 18 US London outfits then paying more than £170,000. UK CPI in the 12 months to August 2025 was 3.8 percent on that same piece. Quinn Emanuel moved the London NQ print to £189,000 on 5 June 2026 without offering a UK training contract — it buys qualifying talent from rivals onto a litigation desk. Willkie Farr & Gallagher moved to £180,000 on 12 March 2026, with about seven training contracts a year. Paul Weiss lists £180,000 NQ, first UK trainees in 2026, and a London office of more than 250 lawyers on its Firms Most List profile accessed 11 September 2026. Ropes & Gray moved NQ to £170,000 on 10 March 2026 and recorded 100 percent retention of its September 2025 intake; the same piece said Kirkland retained all 12 of its November 2025 qualifiers. Those 2025 US London rounds are a priced alternative for the qualifier the Magic Circle autumn cells leave off the books. They are not 2026 Magic Circle autumn.

Clifford Chance advertises approximately 100 trainees across two cohorts each year, four six-month seats, and a mandatory Global Product Group seat in capital markets, debt finance, project development and finance, restructuring and insolvency, or structured finance, with over a quarter of trainees on secondment at any given time (firm careers pages, accessed 11 September 2026). A&O Shearman’s London training contract names finance, corporate, disputes and ENRI, and requires contentious experience either as a disputes seat or as a five-day Nottingham Law School course plus clinic work. Macfarlanes runs 33 training contracts a year and states, in its early-careers FAQs, that priority for NQ places is given to those who have completed the Macfarlanes Training Programme. An independent SQE-plus-qualifying-work-experience candidate does not walk into that cell. The qualifier who earns the figure is, in almost every City row above, a person the firm already trained.

05 Who pays later

The London general counsel is not the September employer.

The first employer on every 2026 retention announcement is the training firm. The company that later puts the same lawyer on its own payroll is a different employer class, with a different age mix and a different clock.

The training firmThe company payroll

  1. Trainee solicitor Two years, four seats, SQE or leftover LPC. The firm funds the assessment. The general counsel is a client, a secondment host, or neither.
  2. Newly qualified associate The retention cell. A named desk if the firm publishes one. A practicing certificate under Solicitors Act 1974 s.1A, because the employer is an authorized person.
  3. In-house at 2 PQE The seat a chief legal officer actually opens. Same lawyer, later year, different reporting line, no book of business to port — a scope, a budget, a panel relationship.

In that same cohort, 171 of 198 general counsel, heads of legal and in-house hiring managers over a 24-month window said they do not open a requisition in the newly qualified year itself. The public stock agrees on age if not on flow. The SRA’s in-house snapshot of 25 April 2023 counted 33,584 in-house solicitors with a practicing certificate or working without one in a government department: 66 percent private sector, 28 percent public, 6 percent other, around 20 percent of all practicing solicitors. Zero percent were aged 16–24. Fourteen percent were 25–34. Forty percent were 35–44. A London chief legal officer hiring “from the NQ year” is usually hiring a later PQE from a law-firm NQ class, not running a parallel intake.

The Law Society’s Annual Statistics Report 2023, in the page dated 23 January 2025, put in-house solicitors at 35,738 as of July 2023 — 22 percent of PC holders, up 1,058 year on year. No 2024 or 2025 in-house headcount sat on the pages we opened, so the 2023 stock is left where it is. The SRA’s 14 March 2023 thematic review put the community above 34,500 people in more than 6,000 organizations, and recorded that only 30 percent of senior in-house leaders expected team headcount to rise in the next 12 months, against 15 percent who expected a decrease. Twenty-five percent of junior in-house solicitors had received no professionalism, ethics or judgment training in the prior 12 months. Sixty percent of respondents worked in a central legal team, including a structure in which legal business partners sit with business units but report to General Counsel. A 2-PQE hire from a City NQ class lands in that shape, not in a Magic Circle seat rotation.

Macfarlanes will not automatically make an NQ seat for someone who qualified elsewhere: the firm’s own trainees have priority, 33 of them a year. Quinn Emanuel will, at £189,000, without ever having trained them in the UK. Those are the two edges of the same qualifying year. Clifford Chance still requires a 2:1, a PGDL commendation on first attempt for non-QLD applicants, and a first-attempt pass on SQE 1, SQE 2 and each SQE Plus module, even for people who already passed the LPC. The retention cell is a filtered product. The eight Clifford Chance autumn qualifiers who did not stay, and the ten A&O Shearman autumn qualifiers who did not stay, are the people a US London disputes or private-equity desk can price without waiting for a training-contract cycle.

Qualifying work experience can be earned in an in-house team. The SRA’s employer page, updated 19 February 2025, is blunt: confirming QWE does not decide competence, and “does not mean an individual is admitted as a solicitor. When they are, it is an employer’s decision whether to employ them as a solicitor or not.” A newly admitted solicitor kept on as a paralegal still needs a practicing certificate to be held out as one. The Government Legal Profession is the public-sector exception that does train: over 60 trainee solicitor posts in the 2026 campaign, in GLD, HMRC, the National Crime Agency and the Competition and Markets Authority, starting early September 2028, with Security Check the ideal and Enhanced Security Check a deal-breaker at the NCA. That pipeline is not the City autumn table, and it will not staff a 2026 corporate seat.

Law Society networks as of 14 May 2025 name the buyer types a London general counsel actually sits in: GC100 in the FTSE 100, GC Connect in the FTSE 250, the Government Legal Profession, Lawyers in Local Government, the Association of Corporate Counsel. None of those communities is the training-contract employer. What the 2026 table supplies them is a panel-feeder and a future in-house hire: an England-and-Wales solicitor with a practicing certificate, two years of qualifying work experience inside a named practice where the firm disclosed one, and — at Clifford Chance — a non-trivial chance of a client secondment into financial-investor, government, regulator or not-for-profit work. Fixed-term NQ contracts are a weaker feed. A&O Shearman’s 34 are all permanent. Clifford Chance’s 37 have unpublished FTC status. We will not pretend we can see the second fact.

The autumn table tells you who stayed. It does not tell you who a general counsel can hire in September.
On the September hire
06 What moved it

The cell is the output of a merger, a qualifying route, and a statute stack.

Bonus commentary is the story the table is used to tell. The dated instruments that actually sat under the 2026 rounds are a transatlantic combination, SQE becoming the default route, and a year of fraud, employment, digital-markets and investment-screening law.

Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling completed on 1 May 2024 as A&O Shearman: nearly 4,000 lawyers, about 800 partners, combined revenues about $3.5 billion, 28 countries, on the firm’s own 1 May 2024 announcement. Legal Cheek’s 31 July 2026 retention piece attributes post-merger conversion swings of 66 percent, then 84 percent, then 69 percent to bigger-than-usual qualifying cohorts, before the two 2026 rounds settled at 32 of 42 and 34 of 44, all permanent in the autumn. In the same reporting window the firm slimmed the partnership from around 740 to about 710 (Legal Cheek, 16 July 2026) while still converting 34 autumn NQs. Profit before tax rose 14 percent to $1.6 billion (£1.2 billion) and PEP to £2.2 million on sterling revenue that went from £2.9 billion to £2.8 billion (firm newsroom, 16 July 2026, year ended 30 April 2026). A chief legal officer who reads PEP recovery as NQ-seat expansion is reading the wrong line of the P&L. The cut is at equity. The NQ desk still hired.

Clifford Chance, year ended 30 April 2026, reported revenue of £2.6 billion, partnership profit of £1.05 billion and PEP of £2.3 million on 22 July 2026, and named private equity, M&A, funds, restructuring and private credit as the growth engine in the same year it retained 75 of 95 2026 qualifiers. Legal Cheek, reporting that Clifford Chance PEP print on 22 July 2026, put Linklaters at average partner profits of £2.48 million, an 11.4 percent jump, on revenue of £2.47 billion — contemporaneous press, not a statutory account, and still not an NQ-seat count. The Takeover Panel’s year to 31 March 2026 recorded 60 firm offers worth about £51 billion, up from 57 offers and about £43 billion, with 12 offers above £1 billion, nearly half by private equity and similar investors, about one third by international corporates, and 51 of 60 structured as schemes. That is the matter flow under Magic Circle corporate and private-equity NQ seats that still do not publish practice splits. The Law Society’s International Data Insights Report 2025, dated 9 September 2025, put UK legal-services exports at £9.02 billion in 2024. Demand is not the missing autumn cell. Disclosure is.

On the supply side, SQE is now the default. The SRA counted 4,019 SQE admissions of 9,944 in the 12 months to July 2026, 40 percent, up from 30 percent the prior 12 months. The SRA’s LPC transitional page, updated 25 November 2025, says most LPC providers are phasing out courses in the 2025/26 academic year, most training contracts are now qualifying work experience via SQE, and admission via LPC remains open only until 31 December 2032. The same page records SQE2 pass rates for LPC graduates who had not taken SQE1 at 36, 44, 62, 50, 48 and 47 percent across the April 2024 to July 2025 sittings, against 79 to 85 percent for candidates who had taken SQE1. City training contracts that force SQE1 and SQE2 before join — Clifford Chance, A&O Shearman, Macfarlanes — are screening that fail-risk out of the 2026 cell. From 1 January 2026, DfE funding for new Level 7 solicitor apprenticeships is limited to starters aged 21 and under, plus EHCP and care-leaver exceptions. Mishcon’s two autumn 2026 apprentices still convert in February 2027 because they started under the old funding. New graduate-apprentice starts in 2026 do not.

The demand statutes the 2026 NQ trained through are already in force or dated. Failure to prevent fraud under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 sections 199 to 206 came into force on 1 September 2025 (SI 2025/349). The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 SMS merger-reporting duty took effect on 1 January 2025. The National Security and Investment Act 2021 cycle for 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026 ran 1,324 notifications, 95.6 percent cleared, 60 call-in notices, Defence 47 percent of called-in acquisitions (GOV.UK, 14 July 2026). The Employment Rights Act 2025 received Royal Assent on 18 December 2025; Lewis Silkin’s 4 September 2026 implementation note puts the unfair-dismissal qualifying period at six months from 1 January 2027, employment-tribunal time limits moving from three months to six on 1 October 2026, and the Fair Work Agency from 7 April 2026. Those dates are not a 2026 NQ salary driver. They are the file the employment and corporate NQs who did print — Baker McKenzie London autumn, Hogan Lovells spring, Mishcon autumn, Fieldfisher EPIC — will be asked to read. The general counsel who hires from the 2026 cell in 2027 or 2028 is hiring lawyers trained through that stack, not through the 2024 pay-war story.

07 How to hire from it

Brief the class the table becomes, not the September cell it prints.

Of 33 closed London associate searches over three years, 21 were in-house seats on a company payroll. Fifteen of those 21 specified 2 to 4 PQE. The NQ-year briefs were the ones that slipped.

Six of the 21 in-house associate mandates specified newly qualified or 0 to 1 PQE. Two of those six filled at NQ in the qualification window. Three filled with a 1 to 2 PQE substitute. One was withdrawn. That is the uncomfortable number: when a company copies the September cell onto its own payroll, Sartori is slower, not faster, and more often lands the prior class. Counter-offer incidence on the London associate line is 35 percent. Median offer-to-acceptance is 12 working days. The typical seat still closes inside 6 to 12 weeks. The NQ-year in-house seats ran to the long end of that band, and four of six did not land a September qualifier.

The remaining 12 of the 33 closed files were law-firm associate seats. They behave like the public table: the training firm already knows the people. A company does not. Sartori maps about 30,000 lawyers in London. That coverage records admission and employer. It does not record which retention round a lawyer sat in, because no public register does. We can see that a candidate qualified in 2024. We cannot see whether they were one of Clifford Chance’s 38 spring keepers or among those who left that spring round. The autumn table is a contemporaneous announcement. Our file is a stock. Treat them as different instruments.

First composite. A FTSE 100 insurer’s general counsel opened a 0-PQE corporate seat after the Clifford Chance autumn print, then learned the cell had no practice split and no FTC disclosure. The brief was rewritten as 2 PQE corporate from a Magic Circle or City independent class. Time to fill: 10 weeks, inside the 6 to 12 week band. A counter-offer arrived, consistent with the 35 percent incidence on this line, and the candidate signed in 12 working days. The company did not hire from the 37. It hired from the class those 37 will be in 2028.

Second composite. A head of legal at a PE-backed UK software group specified a 2026 NQ from an international firm whose spring cell included two fixed-term contracts among 14 retained. They would not take a fixed-term NQ onto a permanent requisition. The brief moved to 1 to 2 PQE disputes and regulatory, London, including national-firm London offices. Time to fill: 9 weeks. The training principal at the original firm, described only by role, had been clear that the fixed-term seats were real seats with a clock on them. The company needed a payroll line, not a clock.

Third composite, from the other reader. A qualifying trainee at a Magic Circle firm whose autumn 2026 cell had not printed by 11 September 2026 could not use a percentage to plan. We ran a confidential approach to a US London disputes platform that hires qualifying talent without a UK training contract. Offer-to-acceptance: 12 working days. The training firm counter-offered. The 35 percent incidence is not a rumor; it is the rate on this line. The candidate is not named. The platform is not named. The structure is the point: unpublished cells create a window for the priced alternative, and the company that wanted that person on a 2027 in-house brief will now find them on a US lockstep, not on a City independent.

Write the company brief as a count. How many 2-PQE corporate lawyers you need in 2027 is a staffing number. How a Magic Circle firm performed in a single autumn round is a press number. Where the firm disclosed a practice split — Hogan Lovells spring, Mishcon autumn, Addleshaw autumn, Baker McKenzie London autumn (corporate reorganizations, M&A, private equity, disputes, employment, real estate, trade), Bird & Bird (six IP, five commercial, two corporate, two disputes, one employment), Mayer Brown (three finance, one corporate, three litigation and regulatory enforcement, one restructuring) — you can underwrite a desk. Where it did not, you underwrite a year and a tier, and you hire at 2 PQE when the desk has become visible in the work itself. For how that search actually runs on a company payroll, use in-house counsel recruiting. The pay psychology that sits next to this table lives on why NQ pay attracts but does not retain.

Questions the qualifier and the general counsel actually ask

What should a London general counsel read from NQ retention in 2026?

Read the numerator. Clifford Chance’s autumn 2026 cell is 37 people, not 82 percent. A&O Shearman’s is 34 of 44, and Legal Cheek’s 31 July 2026 piece says those 34 are all permanent. Pinsent Masons kept 53 of 72 in a national round published 14 August 2026 — a larger absolute feed, a different geography. As of 11 September 2026, Freshfields, Linklaters and Slaughter and May had not printed an autumn 2026 count on the live round-ups we opened, so a Magic Circle autumn average does not exist yet. The London general counsel who staffs 2027 from this table is hiring the class it becomes at 2 PQE, not the September qualifier.

How many Magic Circle firms have published autumn 2026 trainee retention?

Two of five, as of 11 September 2026: Clifford Chance 37 of 45 (Legal Cheek, 8 September 2026) and A&O Shearman 34 of 44 (Legal Cheek, 31 July 2026). Spring 2026 is complete for all five: Slaughter and May 38 of 47, Clifford Chance 38 of 50, A&O Shearman 32 of 42, Linklaters 32 of 43, Freshfields 30 of 44. Do not back-fill the three missing autumn cells from spring. They are different rounds.

Do London companies hire newly qualified solicitors in the NQ year itself?

Usually no. Across 750 structured interviews with London associates and in-house counsel, 171 of 198 general counsel, heads of legal and in-house hiring managers over a 24-month window said they do not open a requisition in the newly qualified year. The Solicitors Regulation Authority’s 25 April 2023 in-house snapshot is the public corroboration: 14 percent of in-house solicitors were aged 25–34, and none were 16–24. The Government Legal Profession is the exception that trains its own: over 60 trainee solicitor posts in the 2026 campaign, starting September 2028.

What is NQ salary London at Magic Circle firms versus US platforms in 2026?

Magic Circle London NQ base is £150,000; Quinn Emanuel prints £189,000 without a UK training contract. Legal Cheek restated the five Magic Circle bases at £150,000 on 21 July 2026. Macfarlanes and Baker McKenzie London matched that figure in July 2026. Willkie and Paul Weiss sit at £180,000. The 29 September 2025 Legal Cheek table put the average across 100-plus Firms Most List outfits at £118,756. The 2026 retention table moved while Magic Circle base did not; the psychology of that gap belongs to a sibling page, not this count.

How should a trainee solicitor read a firm percentage that includes fixed-term NQ contracts?

Subtract them before you treat the cell as a permanent seat. Hogan Lovells kept 14 of 21 spring 2026 qualifiers including two fixed-term contracts, which is 12 of 21 — 57 percent — on permanent seats (Legal Cheek, 17 April 2026). Bird & Bird’s autumn 2026 cell was 16 of 19 including two FTCs (The Lawyer live, 4 September 2026). A&O Shearman’s 34 autumn NQs are all permanent. Clifford Chance has not said. A percentage that mixes those facts is not a single product.

How long does Sartori take to fill a London associate seat hired from an NQ class?

Typical London associate search: 6 to 12 weeks, 93 percent completion, median 12 working days from offer to signature, on 33 closed files over three years. Of those 33, 21 were in-house seats on a company payroll, and 15 of those 21 specified 2 to 4 PQE — the class the retention table becomes, not the September cell. Counter-offer incidence on this London associate line is 35 percent. Briefs that copy the NQ year onto a corporate payroll are the slow ones.

Autumn 2026 Magic Circle is incomplete as of 11 September 2026: only Clifford Chance and A&O Shearman had printed. National rounds (Pinsent Masons, Addleshaw Goddard) are national denominators. Combined 2026 Clifford Chance 75 of 95 and A&O Shearman 66 of 86 are sums of two published rounds, not firm-issued annual rates. Law Society in-house stock is July 2023. No 2026 Magic Circle NQ bonus amount was on the pages.

Sartori maps lawyer coverage globally at about 1.5 million profiles and has run quarterly market surveys since 2019. The London associate method sits on our research page. A quiet conversation

Hiring from the 2026 NQ class — or from the class it becomes?

We map London associate and in-house seats for general counsel and heads of legal who need the lawyer on the company payroll, and we are as willing to say a September NQ brief is the wrong year as to open a search. Confidential, no obligation.
